â- âNothing has changed except technology and time.â
.
Meridaâs eyes stared blankly at the carriage for a long moment before flitting back to Edric. âTechnology and time did it good.â She surmised, gaze returning to the object in question. It was the remnants of a wooden cart, not unlike some back in Scotland, intended to be pulled by horses. It was ornate in its workings, sure, but the detailing was worn by age. Quite frankly, it would blend in at the dump. A long moment passed before sheâd had enough, turning her full body to face her companion. âSo, ah, remind me why you care?â Remind her why she should care was written between the lines, but he had to know this wouldnât exactly garner her interest.

Dewey winced when his snowball accidentally hit someone who was obviously just leaving class. He whirled around to shoot his friends a glare when they immediately started laughing. âShut up!â He briefly considered running off with them at the girlâs reaction, would apologizing really be worth it? And would she even be receptive to it? He shook the thought off, grabbing his backpack and running after her. He was moving a little too fast and his feet slid on the ice once he reached the pavement. He moved his arms erratically to keep himself from falling flat on his face. He took a moment to catch his breath before he continued after her, reaching out to tap her on the shoulder once he reached her. âHey-â He jumped in surprise at her reaction, momentarily debating just dropping it. âOh, yeah.â He cleared his throat. âI just wanted to say sorry for hitting you with a snowball and⌠say that my buddies werenât really laughing at you. They were laughing at me. I mean, I kind of missed my target byâŚÂ an embarrassing amount.â
When Merida had spun to identify her attacker earlier, she'd not presumed it to be the only one not laughing. In fact, sheâd not even looked at him during her spiel, but she shouldnât have been so quick to assume. Maybe it was like her mother had said: she had to learn to guide with her head until her heart slowed down. âAye, right,â she agreed, steeling back into a stern face as she geared up for the explanation. It was best to act as though she knew he was to blame, or so she determined in the moment, but her mentally prepared response didnât air. Why? âYou... Ye hit me on accident?â Her lips were too busy speaking, and after a moment of disbelief, she broke out into a loud laughter. âReally?â She lilted with amusement, her land lifting subconsciously to her hair to feel for snow that was already melted. âDinnae ken how to tell ye, but yer a shit shot.â She remarked, breath returning to usual as her laughter subsided, mouth still curved up in a satisfied smirk. But, as if remembering that she was supposed to be mad, she immediately schooled her face back into one of passiveness. âRight... Apology forgiven, this go. Do it again thoughân ahâll not be so kind.â The words, though spoken with a lightly joking attitude, had a subtle undertone of truth to them, lingering in the air while she offered out a hand. âMerida.â She introduced, long since cutting off her last name in introductions. Not as if anyone here would know it, but it felt nice being her own person.
âChristmas isnât a holiday. Itâs a way of life.â (teri)
âAye? A way aâ life?â Merida asked, head spinning to acknowledge Teri with an amused grin. âCac, whatâs in ye cup?â She asked, and with that, she leaned her entire upper body back into the other girlâs shoulder, thoughtlessly expecting her to support the additional weight. Her bent knees pressed into the couch while her arm craned to grab the glass, and when she pulled it to her nose, it only crinkled. She handed it back with a cheesy grin, lurching her body back into its own personal space. âEither ye take your gin wet, or ye drunk on somethinâ else.â She determined, the liquid having smelt too watery for her interests. âWhatâs that, then?â The question accompanied by a bright laugh, sitting crosslegged facing her. @terithemuse
âDoaty dobbers, thâgoddemn lot! Filthy balachs,â Merida cursed under her breath while shifting the backpack on her shoulders. She had just finished her last exam for the semester and had stepped outside filled with excitement, but sheâd immediately been met with a snowball to the face. It wasnât intentional, merely a bad throw from one of the guys in the group. It was just, laughter in place of apology didnât sit right with her. She wouldâve told them off, if they hadnât run away, so she instead satisfied her anger by yelling at their backs. Now, she was just kind of hungry, and very ready to get back into the holiday mood. Merida began walking down the slippery cement hugging the quad, trying to determine what kind of carb to fill her bottomless stomach with, until she felt something touch her back. It wasnât strong contact, but she instinctively assumed it to be another snowball, and she quickly turned around ready to put some immature idiots to shame. âI swear taâ everythinâ yâmother holds holy, Iâll-â She spewed off quick, accent heavy with rage before spinning enough to take in the non-aggressing face. âOh!â She exclaimed, eyes widening and face brightening instantly. âThought yâwere being funny. Sorry, your mumâs exempt.â

Get to know Merida DunBroch whoâs twenty-two years old and a senior in college majoring in Womenâs Study. She is from Scotland and is often times mistaken for Maria Pedraza while others say she reminds them of Merida from Brave.
- Merida was born and raised a princess in DunBroch, a kingdom in Northern Scotland. The eldest of four (and the only daughter), she was groomed with the intentions of one day assuming power.
- Her three younger brothers are triplets, and they hold a special place in her heart. They are what she misses most about home, and what was hardest to leave.
- True to her blood, she was taught to hold a bow as soon as she had the upper body strength. Though her father was impressed by how quickly she picked it up, her mom was not.
- Though not (terribly) smart, she shows her street intelligence in high pressure situations; she is not satisfied without a solution, and will happily be both the brains and the brawn of every operation, if necessary.
- Taught to be a leader, she has found greater use for her inner strength in defiance. Sheâs now a rebel for the current cause, and never hesitates to help those in need. She even tries to help those who say they arenât, sometimes, but thatâs more tied into her...
- Arrogance. Or really, hard-headedness. Merida cannot be told she is wrong, nor convinced that anything is impossible. Life is a series of decisions, and she wants to make every single one for herself.
- Thatâs what led her to Corona Island. Upon turning sixteen, her parents began to invite nearby royals to their feasts, introducing her to sons somewhat close to her in age. She learned, at age seventeen, that doing so was in anticipation of a future political betrothal to one of them. But, not future enough; upon turning eighteen, she had to plead for the wedding to be delayed, using further education hundreds of miles away as an excuse.
- No one here knows that sheâs royalty. Not because sheâs keeping it a secret, of course, but because Corona offered a fresh start, and its own princess, and she decided to pursue young adulthood without the weight of responsibility. It was a great idea, originally, but as sheâs coming up on graduating, she has to face her heritage once more. The decision of external versus internal responsibility has been weighing on her.
- Cottagecore meets punk meets hipster. Her style is largely inspired by her Scottish roots, founded in knits, jumpers, thick pants, boots, and scarves. Small adjustments are made for the summer.
- Very loud and very opinionated. Comes off as a tomboy because she doesnât care to put effort into maintaining a false image of excessive femininity. Great in group settings -- often the life of parties, the conversation driver, and one of the first people invited.
- Though she is definable as chaotic, her space is rather organized. Her soft side can be seen in her home decorations (drawings from her brothers, hand-dipped mini tapestries, and granite doodles of powerful women), her preference towards neutrals and nature patterns, and the repurposed wooden furniture she clumsily trips over every time she navigates around it.
- Sheâs always found archery relaxing, but lately, it almost feels like her second nature; she doesnât even have to aim anymore to get a perfect shot, but perfect form was not the most useful of party tricks in Corona.
- Would define herself as spiritual, and puts great weight in superstition/myths/signs/fate.
- Out of the same desire that pushed her away from Scotland, she does not want to settle down with anyone in Corona. Doing so would just make things sloppier, so, although she loves to get close to people (emotionally and physically), she ensures that there is a certain distance, lest she fall for someone so far from home.
- Has lots of trouble with authority.
- Gets herself involved in trouble/drama regularly, by accident, but also forces those involved to talk out their problems. Unless sheâs directly involved, in which case her feelings blind her from rationality (which is highly possible).
- Generally optimistic, and lives with a âwhy notâ attitude.
- Can outdrink you, and is very proud of it! Can also eat more than you, though thatâs not a contest; she just really likes food. Itâs a miracle she has the metabolism she does.
- So long as sheâs in Corona, Merida sees it as a vacation, and sheâs just here to make the most of it. Until sheâs forced back to an arranged marriage in Scotland, that is.
Wanted connections:
- royal(/esque) friends; though she hasnât confessed her own title, sheâd naturally gravitate towards islanders in power around her age to see how they handle it (especially those who present as non-traditional)
- non-royal friends; this girl is loud, and though some may find her annoying, she is socially motivated and operates in good spirit
- flings; everyone sheâs done anything with in corona has known in advance that she refuses to settle down, so these people were either okay with that, or pretended to be
- feelings; though sheâs so anti-commitment, sheâs still just a girl who might (quietly) crush on the occasional person or two
- everything tbh; she just needs people who she meshes with/who she can be competitive with/who can balance her out
|| Get to know MERIDA DUNBROACHÂ whoâs TWENTY-TWOÂ years old and a SENIOR in college majoring in UP TO PLAYER . She is from SCOTLAND and is often times mistaken for MARIA PEDRAZAÂ while others say she reminds them of MERIDAÂ from BRAVE. ||
Take a peek at her story:
Merida is the eldest of the DunBroch siblings and quite possibly the toughest of them all too. Despite the reservations of her people - who believed she couldnât rule without a mall by her side - she has constantly fought for her place in society. She has fought to show that ever though she is a woman she can still be brave and rise about her male suitors. Merida has never been weak willed, weak minded, or even just physically weak. Ever since she was a child sheâs proven time and time again that she would never do anything just to fit in. In fact, she often did things to stand out - never wanting to be like everyone else. Which is why she moved to Corona in the first place.
When pressure came from her people to pick a suitor to marry, Merida refused. Marriage wasnât anything she was ready for right now - nor was she certain if it was something sheâd ever be prepared for. Her refusal wasnât accepted though and the suitors continued to show up and fight for her hand. Fed up with it all, Merida decided it was time to get away completely. It was hard to leave her father and brothers (not quite as tough to leave her mother, though), but she needed a break. She made a false promise that she was only leaving for college and when she returned sheâd pick a suitor like everyone wanted, to get everyone off her back. But now itâs her senior year and sheâs getting closer to having to face the fact that soon sheâs going to have to make a decision about whether to return home like she said she would or to stay on the island and enjoy the freedom she had finally found within Coronaâs walls.
