I am an Autistic and ADHD barefoot advocate. For me, some friends, and many others barefooting is about accessibility and accommodation needs.
We both pictured here barefoot due to our sensory and stimulation needs due to Autism and ADHD, as well to manage our chronic pain, physical disabilities, and mobility. Grounding through barefooting also has many benefits to managing physical and mental disabilities. There are benefits to the nervous system for both disabled people and non-disabled people.
Barefooting isn't a magical cure, but it is a helpful coping strategy for myself and many other disabled people.
(disclaimer: disabled people are not a monolith. some Autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD people have the opposite experience with their sensory and stimulation needs and instead need to wear shoes. some disabled people can't barefoot due to their disabilities. listen to your body!)
