Just saw The Backrooms
Dungeon Crawler Carl Fans A Question: Carl and Katia, Romantic Or Platonic? Out of pure curiosity.
Romantic
Platonic
Curious To See Answers and Don't Care Either Way
Okay so I finished This Inevitable Ruin.
I was worried a bit at first because I wasn't getting into it as fast as the others but damn man. Went in excited for Carl to go fucking wild and murder everyone and in true DCC fashion my favorite parts of this book were the people and the relationships. Carl and Katia fucking floored me this book. There's a real connection there, that personally I see as platonic but would not be surprised or overly disappointed if it turned romantic. Katia herself was great this book, Donut as well slayed and she's one to do.
But Carl meeting the former Cookbook owners? Fucking wow. His shock and intense connection from the start killed me. Especially his meeting with Milk.
Again as I've said before, went into this book for the absurd and funny things I was hearing about it and I'm FLOORED (Pun intended) with the message and human connection this book portrays.
Now onto Parade Of Horribles and my heartbreak of being caught up on this series and being unable to finish it until the next books come out.
hi this isn’t rly a question but you seem to enjoy dcc and I have just been looking for more people that do. Also to make this an actual question, have you read/can you recommend any of Matt Dinnimans other books (I have only read dcc and operation bounce house)
Hey! I have not read anything else by him, but after this I definitely might. This was just randomly recommended to me by a friend that knows my tastes and they nailed it. Loving this series so far!

I'm usually weirded out or disappointed when a strong female character is benched to have a baby or something like that, sometimes feels patriarchy. But I like how Matt did it with Katia in this book. Felt... I don't know. Earned? For lack of a better word. I'm still kind of disappointed because I adore Katia as a character and wish she would still be here but I don't hate it.
I've thought a lot about this! The vast majority of the time, child loss and having a baby are ways for people to pretend their female characters are more complex than they are. It feels like pasted on trauma.
I think the reason it feels so different with Katia is because she's a complex character outside of this part of her. It also feels genuine in a way it usually doesnt. Katia's desire to be a mother reminds me a lot of my own mom, who wanted to be a mother from childhood. She figured she'd never get married, but she had planned to have children anyway. I can see my mom deciding to adopt a medically fragile baby on her own. I can see her, as she was back then, choosing pregnancy over other (equally terrible) options, especially if it put her in a place to help MORE children in need.
Katia doesn't feel like "idk, here's a woman and since she's a woman, give her a baby and get rid of her." She feels like someone who was loved by her creator, someone who had a lot of thought put into her actions.
It also doesn't feel like Matt was just writing her out of the story. I'm 100% sure we'll see her again, and that she will have been doing something wild in the background.
Parade Of Horribles opening up with the best damn Donut moment of all time.

Imagine being stuck in a huge ball made of thousands of people as a cat shouts at a God about his weird penis.
Li Na: *Summons horrors beyond comprehension*
Carl: "What the fuck was that?"
Li Na: "Did it work?"
Carl: "Like what the actual fuck was that?"
Li Na: "But did it work?"
I love her.

I just got to where Carl met the character named Milk and I am openly WEEPING.
Jeff Hays you beautiful talented fucker. That narration was something of pure and utter ART.
I'm about 50 chapters into book 7 and I went in excited for the war and fighting, but man the interpersonal relationships are just so damn good I find myself wanting fights to end so we can have conversations. Between Carl, Donut, Katia and now Prepotente god damn. Honorable mention to Elle and Imani too. I just care about them.
The way Matt seeds the whole "We can fight this but only if we fight together" message throughout DCC is so touching. Yeah the government or leaders suck. The world is bad. But we can change things, if we act together.
The Eye Of The Bedlam Bride.
When this one started I was kinda eh on the whole card system but it won me over. Especially with the whole Nun story. Man this series gets me more and more HYPE. The way the series is becoming more about the Crawlers as a whole is very good, it still manages to be hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. It's at the point now where if a Crawler dies imma be sad. Looking forward to seeing where the Lucia stuff goes and of course the AI stuff which has me HOOKED.
And now it's Fraction Wars time baby! I've been waiting for this!
Me sitting on the bus as Patrick Warburton shouts at a crab with a humiliation kink

Guys. My therapist recently asked me to record things that give me a strong emotional response. (I'm very cognitive and we're trying to be better at not ignoring feelings... not important).
How do I explain to her that the main thing that's making me feel strong feelings is a guy named Carl and his ex-girlfriend's cat Donut supporting each other through an alien reality show apocalypse?
This is a genuine question.
Bro got my ass good with this one.
