Since I'm pretty sure they're going for the original 1951 Disney movie with hints of the 2010 live-action movie, I'm thinking the reader is the child of one of the many soldiers the Queen of Hearts commands.
I was going to make them the child of the executioner since the wiki said there was supposed to be one, but after seeing the 1951 AiW (for the first time), I realized there isn't one. Instead, the knight cards do it themselves.
So now I'm thinking in the new timeline, the reader wants to follow in their parents' footsteps and become a knight just like them. They attend Auradon and assign themselves as Red's and Pink's bodyguard, much to Red's dismay.
The reader likes antagonizing Max, telling him that he's just like his father, that they will always be there for when he slips up, and that they can't wait for both Max and his father to share a cell.
Whereas in the old timeline, the reader never wanted to be a knight. They were ashamed that their parents were knights to such an evil tyrant. Maybe the reader was even an apprentice of Maddox.
The point is that the reader would have never wanted the life they have now. They wanted a nice and peaceful life far from the queen and their parents' reputation, one with them and Max.
