I just saw that you were interested in writing with a character who goes mute due to trauma. I was wondering if you could write something with Finnick where he's her mentor and while in the arena, she gets really violent and maybe even kills her district partner. After winning, she feels really guilty and doesn't recognize herself so she goes mute. Finnick understands since he also felt really guilty after winning his games and helps her, especially in the Capitol since they have no sympathy for her there. No worries if you don’t want to do it! 🩷
thanks for your request! hope i did it justice <3
Finnick Odair x victor!reader who is ashamed of her survival [1.3k words]
CW: fem!reader, suicidal ideation, selective/mutism or trauma induced mutism, shame and grief, hurt/comfort
You don’t recognize yourself in the mirror as the stylist yanks another weft out of your head, but that’s nothing new.
The lack of recognition nor the rough treatment.
The hair stylist makes a sound of disgust. “You’re losing so much hair.”
There might have been a time where you would retort that maybe if she didn’t yank so hard, you’d be able to keep most of it. As it is, there’s an invisible weight lodged in your throat that makes it hard to swallow, painful to breathe, and impossible to speak.
She yanks again.
You don’t say anything.
“Caesar Flickerman can only do so much you know,” the stylist sneers, earning her a quiet hum of agreement from your makeup artist who has decided you don’t need—or perhaps deserve—his help removing the layers of foundation and pigments he used to create tonight's look. “This little vow of silence you’ve taken makes us all look bad.”
Your soul withers with shame; you hope you haven’t gotten them into any trouble, though it’s no secret that they despise working with you.
They make that painfully obvious.
in your eyes
your and haymitch's decades-long love affair.

⛰︎ ོ
He’s never forgotten the look in your eyes the first time he saw you.
Usually at this point in the games, with both District 12 tributes long gone, Haymitch would have been completely blinded by alcohol. An embarrassment to everyone in the room. So much so that people didn’t even try to continue talking to him. Which was the way he liked it.
But, this year was different. His tributes made it farther than the past couple. He thought, maybe, there was a sliver of a chance one could make it.
Of course, he was wrong.
However, you caught his eye. His drinking slowed, just enough for him to keep his eyes open. Long enough to see you bludgeon the only other remaining tribute, the District 2 boy, with the axe you pulled from another tribute’s deceased body.
When the boy stopped fighting and his body collapsed, your body stopped as well. And when the cannons fired, you turned, your face in view of the camera. And what Haymitch saw in your eyes—pure misery.
Of course, he was well acquainted with misery. He had seen it in every pair of District 12 eyes since his childhood. But yours were different. Immediately after hearing that cannon, you became a new person from the charming, witty girl shown in the Flickerman interviews.
He hadn’t seen that precise genre of misery in anyone else but the face he sees in the mirror once in a while.
And then he saw you whisked into the world of the Capitol. He kept his distance. Drank more. Didn’t let you get even to the same half of a room with him before he would take off. Something about that look he saw—that he related to—told him it was in his best interest to avoid you.
⛰︎ ོ
You only saw the lone District 12 victor from afar. Well, at least in person. You remember watching his games when they aired when you were much younger. Since then, his hair had gotten straighter. His rebellious demeanor changed. Still a rebel from what you hear, but a rebel with nothing to say. He always had a drink in his hand and a look of misery and disgust in his eyes.
You wanted to speak to him, as your fellow District 9 victors never wanted to openly discuss the horrors of a victor’s life, and you needed someone who understood.
But you were not yet 16 and could not begin to imagine the horrors that Snow had planned for you.
It began at the final stop of your victory tour, at Snow's mansion. Your stylist adorned you in, in your opinion, the most glamorous look of your time as a victor. Beige tool with sequins spotted all over. The color reminded you of the fields back home. You had never felt so pretty—or lonely.
You kept sneaking glances at Abernathy throughout the night to see if you could finally speak to him. And every time you looked, his eyes were already locked on you. He would immediately look away, but in the split seconds your gazes would connect, your stomach would leap. It wasn’t a feeling you were used to. You, of course, had your share of boys back in 9, but Abernathy was a man. A man who actually piqued your interest.
Halfway into the night, you were summoned to a one-on-one with President Snow. And it was then that you realized your life was no longer yours. The life you fought for—killed for—was nothing more than a piece of currency and flesh to the people who gathered in this mansion to celebrate you.
He had been almost bored when he made the demand. He had told you that you must allow him to trade and sell you whenever, to whomever, for whatever he decides. And if you refused? No tribute from District 9 would ever receive an advantage in the Games again. No sponsors. No allies. No chance.
You had thought of the kids you grew up with. The ones who'd been reaped before you. The ones who would be reaped after.
He had known you had no family to threaten. So he had put the fate of tens and hundreds of tributes—kids— on your shoulder.
You did everything he wanted after that.
⛰︎ ོ
Haymitch saw the cycle repeat itself with you once again. And he didn’t stop it.
He kept telling himself it was for the best. You probably preferred being Snow’s pawn rather than living with the guilt that your defiance killed everyone you loved.
He would prefer that.
So, he continued to watch from afar. Watch you sneak away with Capitol elite during functions victors were forced to attend. Watched as your shoulders would hunch over with grief every time you saw another District 9 tribute die.
The 62nd was the first time he spoke to you.
Both 12 tributes died in the cornicopia. His liquor intake slowly decreased by the thirteenth day, where your boy tribute died at the hands of a career. The runner-up. So close, but not close enough. Your body hunched more than usual. Your hands covered your face. Your shoulders began bouncing up and down. Others—mentors and Capitol scum—all watched with surprise and discomfort as you began to break down.
For the first time since he was 17, Haymitch didn’t think before taking action. He breezed cooly across the room and carefully grabbed your sides, pulling you up from the couch and guiding you into a nearby stairwell.
You were so upset that you didn’t even glance to see who was taking you or where you were going. You were used to not knowing either of these things by now.
The door to the large watching party shut behind him as he sat you down on the staircase. He crouched on the landing in front of your face.
You finally took your hands away from your face and jumped at the sight of him
“Oh–I–I’m sorry. I figured it was Mags…or…”
“Do my hands feel like Mags’?” he chuffed.
The corners of your lips slowly rose, “She's the only one I really speak to.”
He examined your face. He had never seen it up close like this, besides in photographs or playbacks from your games.
He snapped out of his trance and sat next to you. Silence filled the space between you to as you both stared ahead at the blank wall before you. He didn’t mind it.
“I thought he could have done it. Won, I mean,” you say, still staring ahead. “It might sound awful, but I think I have to stop hoping.”
“I’m sorry,” he said, unsure of what else he could say. He hadn’t done this before.
Tears began to slowly trickle again, “I think I’m the only 9 mentor that even cares anymore.”
“You wanted your kid to win so you could have someone else who cares?” He asked, genuinely.
You turned to look at him, “Besides wanting them to survive, yes. I don’t know how you do it without other victors, and with how you isolate yourself. It must be horrible. I feel so lonely, and I have company all the time.”
You realize he is looking at the ground and fidgeting with his fingers.
“Sorry,” You wince. “I didn’t mean—I’m just upset.”
He nods. “I understand. It is horrible, actually. That is an astute observation.”
And then you laugh. And all he wants to do is keep making you laugh.
“I guess it's horrible for all of us in different ways,” You note.
He nods and takes his flask out of his chest pocket. He offers it to you first, but when you shake your head, he takes a swig.
“I wish I had lost,” You say, eyes desolate of any emotion you had moments before.
Haymitch nods. “I remember when you won. You looked-”
“Miserable?”
He nods.
“I realized it as soon as I killed that District 2 boy. It was pointless. He probably had someone to go home to. A mom or dad, maybe both. Maybe a crush he was going to ask out when he got back,” you start shaking your head.
“And I don’t have anyone. I killed people in there to survive–-for what? To live as an object that sends kids in that arena to die every year, with no one to go home to?” You scoff, “I should’ve died. Every one of those kids in my arena deserves to be alive. Not me.”
He thinks back to the look in your eyes when you won. The immediate misery. And now, he realizes the difference from what he saw in others was that you were also already consumed with loneliness.
Your hand was resting beside you. Your other hand is wiping the tears on your face. He can’t think of anything else to do.
He grabs your hand and holds it.
And you sit there for a long time, both relieved and terrified there is finally someone else.
⛰︎ ོ
You don’t see him until the next games. And you’re embarrassed to admit, you’ve been anxious about what will happen when you see him next. You don’t understand the feelings you're having for the older, drunken, District 12 man you had only shared one interaction with.
You’re preparing your tributes backstage for the Flickerman interview, while your other mentors attempt to speak to possible sponsors. You're grateful they're trying.
You see Haymitch with his tributes, and your heart skips a beat. You stare, waiting for him to acknowledge you. He is drunk. Clearly. The 12 escort is doing most of the preparation while he sways in place.
Your eyes finally connect, and you smile and wave. He gives you a drunken look up and down, then directs his attention back to his tributes.
Oh.
Shaking the interaction off and give your tributes some final words of advice before you send them off on stage.
Later that night, you can’t help but think about Haymitch. Why he barely acknowledged you. You weren’t even embarrassed—you were hurt. The 9 tributes, mentors, and escort all had gone to bed, but you were still up thinking about it.
You had taken the liberty of finishing off multiple bottles of the finest alcohol the Capitol apartment had to offer. With each swig, you become more and more upset and less and less reasonable. You felt there was no other way to understand than to see him.
You knock, a little too loudly, on the 12th-floor door. You wait for a few minutes before you knock again.
Luckily, Haymitch opens the door. He rubs his eyes and squints from the lights in the hallway.
“What the hell? What are you doing here?”
You blow past him and allow yourself into the apartment.
“You can’t even give me a wave back?” You question.
“Shhh,” he gestures to the tribute’s rooms. “Did anyone see you?"
"Are you going to act like nothing happened?"
"What are you talking about?”
“Backstage at Flickerman. You brushed me off,” you say, quieter this time.
He scoffs, “Go back to bed. Someone will see you.” He starts going back to his room.
“I don’t care,” you grab his forearm. “I thought we were friends.”
Haymitch shakes you off. “I don’t need friends. Go back to bed, 9.”
And so you do. And it takes everything in you not to cry just like you did in that stairwell last year.
⛰︎ ོ
Haymitch needed it to happen. He couldn’t let what happened last year repeat itself. He got too close. Cared too much. Who knows what Snow would do to you if he knew?
He laid awake in bed, thinking about how you stormed into the apartment. It took guts. He wished he had some.
Even though he knew it was necessary, he couldn’t help but feel pangs in his chest when he remembered the hurt look in your eyes. How he shrugged you off and pretended he didn’t want anything more than to talk to you and hold your hand again. Remembering the liquor on your breath made him want to go into the 9th apartment and get rid of every bottle of alcohol in there. He wanted to protect you.
He felt like a child. He knew the risks. He couldn’t let it happen.
But he so, so wanted to.
When he woke up that morning, he skipped his first drink. In case he saw you, he wanted to be ready to say something. What he would say, he was not sure.
He didn’t see you in the training center. Didn’t see you at the Capitol soiree. It made him nervous. He had to have a couple of drinks at that point in the day, but he was still focused on when he would see you.
But he never did.
So when he laid in bed that night, staring up at the ceiling, alcohol slowly wearing off, he did something he never thought he could do.
He made an effort.
He copied your movements. He went to your apartment. He knocked, as loudly as you did, understanding your escort was probably out celebrating the night before the games. It’s what Effie had been doing the past couple of nights as well. If your fellow mentors answer, he can lean on his reputation of being a drunk.
But, just like he did, you open.
You almost shut the door in his face. You were still embarrassed and upset about the night before. You were cringing all day. You showed up at his apartment? You had never been so reckless. But now, he was doing the same thing.
“What are you doing here, Abernathy?”
He slides past you inside, hoping no one saw him waiting outside your door.
You shut the door and turn to face him. “Haymitch-”
“I’m sorry.”
You were taken aback. You rubbed your eyes to make sure you weren’t dreaming.
“It’s okay, I was just being–”
“I do,” he interrupted.
You furrow your eyebrows.
“Want to be… friends. I do.”
He didn’t know what he was doing. But when you two sat and talked all through the night, he forgot about the risks for a moment. He enjoyed being with you—and he forgot what it felt like to genuinely laugh. It was exhilarating.
You spoke about your home lives and lack of acquaintances. You shared your favorite Capitol dishes and your least favorite Caesar Flickerman hair colors.
He told you what Snow did to him and you told him what he did to you.
You passed a bottle between one another, sharing an understanding of the lives you were cursed with. You both had not felt so comfortable in years.
So when he reached across the distance between you two and kissed you, he did not hesitate.
And when you pulled him into your bedroom, you were not afraid of Snow.
And for the night, you two were where you wanted, with who you wanted.
⛰︎ ོ
Your years together repeated themselves the same way. You two would sneak time together in the day, in rooms away from the hungry eyes of the Capitol. And the nights were yours. It wasn’t perfect, but it was what you had.
But the selling didn’t stop.
You would sometimes go from a mansion to the 12th floor suite. Sometimes you would be so bruised and sore, neither you nor Haymitch wanted anything but to hold each other and try to fall asleep.
Being together made nights easier. When the nightmares came, one would rock the other back to sleep. And you would stay awake and talk to each other, and it still felt just as peaceful as that first night in the stairwell.
You thought that when the selling first started, you could never be touched by another person. You thought it would feel too emotionless—too transactional. But with Haymitch, it was perfect.
And you two thought there was a chance it could always be like this.
But there were eyes everywhere.
And your time had run out.
⛰︎ ོ
Haymitch had been summoned to see Snow during the Capitol’s 65th victory tour. It wasn’t hard for him to anticipate what was coming. Your sneaking had gotten sloppy. Your moves riskier.
And when he sat across from the devil incarnate, the scent of roses doing their best to cloud his mind, he felt the same way he did fifteen years ago. He was in the same position—across from Snow, listening to him describe his knowledge of his lover.
But this time, Haymitch knew he had to pull away from you. He couldn’t do it all over again.
The easiest way for him, selfishly, was a clean break. He stopped going to your apartment. He made Effie answer your knockings. He stopped staring at you from across crowded rooms. He never explained it. But deep inside, you understood it.
So, you latched onto the Capitol’s newest piece of meat—Finnick Odair. You both had been dealt the same wretched hand, and you attempted to be there for each other. You would make the best of Capitol parties before the horrors of the bidding started.
During the nights, all you wanted was Haymitch to hold you and make you laugh. And Finnick’s friendship couldn’t give you that.
Haymitch took note of your newfound partnership and enjoyment of Capitol company. It disgusted him. He didn’t understand your thought process. He thought he had understood you. But he began to wonder if he ever knew you at all. If the looks exchanged from across rooms and the words spoken in between the sheets were all a lie.
He had begun to drink more than ever.
⛰︎ ོ
You watched Haymitch with Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark with satisfaction. That was the man you loved. Still loved. He shook the pockets of every piece of Capitol scum and managed to create two victors. You wanted him to give you the signal–that you could somehow be together again, but it never came.
When the third Quarter Quell was announced, you first thought of Haymitch. What would he do? He couldn’t fight like he used to, and neither could you.
Your name was called at the reaping. You had anticipated it since the announcement. No one volunteered for you, and you couldn’t blame them. Between you and the other female victor, you were the youngest. You couldn’t be upset.
This was your chance to lose the games as you always intended to do.
You were relieved, selfishly, that Peeta volunteered in Haymitch’s place. Fighting in the Games is hard enough. Fighting with a heart full of desire for the man competing for survival alongside you was not an ideal situation. You couldn’t understand how Katniss and Peeta were going to do it.
Finnick scoffed when you told him you believed the pair of District 12 victors’ love story. He thought it was all made up.
“Maybe,” you said. “But it's nice to think two people can be in love despite it all.”
It was not the last conversation you and Finnick would have about the star-crossed lovers. He pulled you aside when all the returning victors arrived at the Capitol. He laid out the plan to save Katniss and Peeta, to which you immediately agreed. If you were going to die anyway, you might as well leave behind the seeds for the rebellion.
⛰︎ ོ
Haymitch had other plans for your fate, however.
In one of the numerous conversations he had with Plutarch and Finnick leading up to the Games, he finally decided to share what was on his mind.
“I know what the goal is here, and I know the importance of it,” he began. “But I have a condition.”
The other two men glanced at each other. They couldn’t tell if he was serious or too drunk to understand what he was saying.
Plutarch began rejecting him. “Well, the outcome is-”
“Get her out,” he said, eyes locked on Finnick, placing a hand on his shoulder.
Finnick stared back at him, immediately understanding.
“Who? Get who out?” Plutarch asked. Finnick didn't need to.
“She’ll want to die in there. Trust me. But I need you to make sure she gets out.”
Finnick grabbed Haymitch’s shoulder back, “I will.”
You had told Finnick of your and Haymitch’s love affair one drunken night, after a particularly horrific client. You regretted it after, but Finnick traded a secret as well. He told you of Annie. Listening to him, you were relieved that at least someone was able to be in love.
⛰︎ ོ
You were surprised by the games. Mags had gone so early, Katniss refused much of Finnick’s help, and the arena was as brutal as ever. You hadn’t anticipated staying so close to the three of them for as long as you did. By the time you met up with Johanna, Wiress, and Beetee, you thought it was a sign you could split off and finally end your time in the arena.
But Finnick rarely let you out of his sight, and there was no way you could sneak off. On the beach, he urged you that with Wiress gone, you needed to stay alive to complete the plan. You were shocked he saw through you so easily. You had only shared your regret of survival in your games with one other person.
And coincidentally, you heard his voice soon after.
It started with Katniss’ sister, then her friend from 12. Then Finnick heard Annie. And then, you heard the screams you used to hear at night after Haymitch’s nightmares.
“Haymitch!?” You screamed, launching yourself into the jungle. You cut through the trees and plants voraciously, not letting any protests from anyone stop you.
His screams kept coming, your name the subject of each one.
“Haymitch!?” You kept screaming back until you realized they were jabberjays. A trick. A mechanism by the Capitol.
By the time it was over, your voice was hoarse and your face stained with tear tracks. You sat on the beach in silence, trying to understand the pain that had just taken place.
Peeta sat next to you.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
You couldn't do anything but try to nod.
"I'm sorry," he said. "I didn't know."
You turned to him. You could tell he was talking about Haymitch.
"No one knows. Well, except him," you motioned to Finnick sitting on the shore. You smiled, "You know, Katniss reminds me of him."
Peeta grins, "Yeah. They're more alike than they care to admit."
You two stare at the watercolor dusk.
"They don't like to let people love them," you said, running your hand through the sand.
Peeta nodded. "That's why we have to love them anyway."
You smiled at him.
Katniss, feet away, couldn’t help but ask Johanna for some answers.
“Who’s Annie?” She asked.
“Annie Cresta, the girl Mags volunteered for. She won like four years–five years ago.”
“Is she the one that went a little…?”
“Mhm,” Johanna confirmed.
Silence fell between them.
“And-”
“Y/N and Haymitch?”
Katniss nodded, smiling a little at how quickly Johanna anticipated the question.
“That’s been happening for a long time. Finnick told me, because Haymitch asked-”
She caught herself. She couldn’t reveal too much. The two stared at you in the water as Johanna attempted to come up with something to say.
“Haymitch gets her. And she gets him.”
Katniss was shocked that anyone could get Haymitch. That Haymitch could love anyone.
“Love is weird,” Johanna said plainly.
When it was all over, you woke up in a white room. A room so meticulously clean, so lifeless, it couldn’t be anywhere but in the Capitol. You tried to get up, but you were tied down.
Then Snow came. And he told you what was to come. The starvings, the beatings, the shockings.
But he let it slip that Haymitch was alive. And for some reason, you decided not to let yourself succumb to the torture.
How he let it slip, you were not sure. You did not know the President as a man to make mistakes.
He was afraid.
⛰︎ ོ
Haymitch had to endure it all without alcohol.
When he was informed that the Capitol’s jets had gotten to you first, he began throwing every object within his reach. He screamed at everyone–Plutarch, Coin, and even Beetee and Finnick.
He understood Katniss’ anger towards him for not getting Peeta out because, despite his best efforts not to, he felt the same way towards Finnick.
You should be in District 13 right now, safe and unharmed. But now, you were in the Capitol, and he was drying out in a worn-out facility.
When he was back, though, his fellow rebels saw a fire in him they had not yet seen before. To get you out. Despite the withdrawals, he paid more attention, contributed more, and even joked slightly less. He was desperate to get the revolution going.
And he did.
And when he was informed that the power went out in the Capitol and there was a chance you were coming back, he suddenly couldn’t be the new useful person he was. He talked to Katniss, watched Finnick’s propo, but he couldn’t think of anything else but the chance he was going to get to hold you again.
When he, Finnick, and Katniss sat in the room silently, waiting for you to arrive, Finnick cleared his throat.
“You know, she didn’t enjoy the Capitol like you thought she did.”
Haymitch was shocked, not only at Finnick’s ability to even speak at the moment, but also at the fact that he knew his feelings towards your demeaner at Capitol gatherings after he pulled away from you.
“She noticed the way you would look at her, with, as she said, ‘disgust.’”
Haymitch shifted uncomfortably.
“She was trying to forget,” Finnick muttered, eyes still locked on the knot he was tying.
“Forget what?” Haymitch asked.
“How much she loved you.”
Haymitch wanted to cry, but before he could, a District 13 doctor opened the door to inform them they were back.
The three victors ran through the hallways, all with the same goal in mind. They saw Johanna, then Annie.
He couldn’t see you, but then–
“Haymitch?” Your voice yelled.
He turned to see you hooked up to IVs across the room. You pulled them off and jumped off the bed.
He laughed out of pure joy. He ran towards you.
You launched yourself into his arms. He picked you up and held you tight. Tighter than any of those nights in previous years. He was never going to let you go.
⛰︎ ོ
You went with him back to 12 after it all. You wanted to keep him with Katniss and Peeta. You and Peeta bake bread together, though your skills from 9 aren't as good as his from the bakery. Katniss hunts during the day, and the four of you dine together every night.
You all became a family. Something that you had never had before.
At last, life was peaceful. You talked and laughed every night and had Haymitch's flock of geese to keep you occupied. He sang the songs he remembered from Lenore Dove. You made him go on long walks with you in the woods.
The nightmares never stopped, but neither of you ever expected them to. It's the same as it was in the Capitol, but you no longer have bruises and marks and Haymitch does not need alcohol.
The sun shines in through the window each morning, waking you both up. Without fail, you two always open your eyes facing each other.
Reflected in both your eyes is pure joy.
‘Breathe for yes, Back flip for no.’
Summary: For the past few weeks you’ve seen a cute man at the same time and cafe. You’ve finally gotten the courage to ask him out, with a note that gives Spencer Reid to choice but to say yes.

The Café was warm, the sounds of the machines buzzing lowly. Fairy lights twinkled across the walls. The smell of roasted coffee beans and cinnamon, warm and comforting in a way that made it easy to linger.
You had been lingering a lot lately. Well ever since you started to notice him.
He always sat in the same small corner table near a window, long legs tucked almost awkwardly under it. A book always open and wither on the table or in a palm. A mug he barely touched rest on the table. A careful finger dragging down the page gracefully, almost in reverance.
His lips moving in a mumble as he absorbed the words on a page like a sponge, Like he couldn’t help himself. Most of the time he flipped the pages far too fast for it to be normal.
Many times you reminded yourself not too stare, but who were you kidding you were totally staring.
He was a total looker and, unfortunately for you, totally your type.
It first it was nothing, just a flicker of movement that you barely registered, a stranger sitting by the window s you ordered your usual fruity drink. Then it became something you noticed in your peripherals, the soft blur of someone tall, usually hunched over a book.
After that you looked, really looked, and realized it was always the same man. His unruly hair became recognizable. Sometimes he wore cardigans, other it was knitted sweaters. Normally it was they were muted colors. One thing that wasn’t muted were his socks. Each day they were mismatched, whether in pattern or color, sometimes both.
You shook your head to stop that train of thought. For the past week you have ran through the thought of pilling as much courage as you could possibly have and ask him out. It was without a doubt that he never noticed you. Not that you weren’t attractive, to someone at least.
You kept telling yourself you’d do it next time you saw him. Then the next time—and then the next. But that hesitation was slowly being replaced by something stronger. Something firm and stable. Something that made your nerves feel less like a warning and more like a push forward. Even if that was wishful thinking.
Before you could second guess and wait another week. You walked.
At first it was one foot in front of another. The folded napkin in your hands felt heavier than it should as you approached his table. He didn’t notice you at first. completely absorbed in a book seemed to be written entirely in Russian. That for sure made you almost take a step back. what if he didn’t speak english? The rejection wouldn’t even be as embarrassing as asking a man who didn’t even speak the same language as you.
“Um..” you breathed out.
You didn’t even think he’d register you. But he startled, eyes snapping up to meet yours. They were wide and curious. “Oh—hi. Sorry, i didn’t see you there.”
“It’s okay,” you replied quickly. You took a shaky breath. “I just—this is going to sound weird, so I’m going to commit and leave.”
He blinked, “That’s… quite an introduction.”
You huffed a small laugh and quickly slid the folded napkin across the table.
“its—uh. It’s for you,” You said. Then instead of leaving, you stepped back, rocking lightly on your heels. Anxiety tingling at your fingertips.
For a moment he didn’t move. His eyes darting between you and the napkin like it might either explode, or tell him the secrets of the universe. You couldn’t really tell. Until he carefully unfolded it.
His lips parted as he read. (Faster than you ever could.)
And then he pursed his lips, in a futile attempt to conceal the smile rising on his face. His face began to dimple as smile lines began parting the waves of skin on his face. He released the warmest giggle ever. As if this man couldn’t get better. His smile was dazzling, enough to stick you straight into a stupor and bring a flush of heat to both your cheeks and ears.
His laugh wasn’t restrained or polite. No, this was genuine, and real and so so so swoon worthy. It made your palms sweat with how much his face light up in pure delight.
“What?’ You asked. As you rubbed your palms together, already smiling despite the heavy pounding of your heart in your chest.
He held up the napkin, smile still stretching his lips. “It says, ‘Will you go on a date with me? Breathe if yes, backflip for no.’”
You shrugged, shying away from his gorgeous hazel eyes.
He laughed again, softer this time, shaking his head as he pushed his hair back. “That’s not entirely fair”
“Why not?” You looked back at him.
“Well,” he gestured to himself, “i am—statistically speaking, not athletically capable of executing a backflip”
You breathe out a shaky sigh, the sting of rejection started sticking its little cold needles into your beating heart. A surge of courage filling your veins, “Well..” you paused, “I think that means you have to go on a date with me.”
There was the smallest pause. Then he ducked his head, smiling, almost shy. “I guess i will.”
Relief flooded through you. “Great. Good. That’s—good.”
He folded the napkin carefully and slid it between the pages of his book like it mattered.
“I’m Spencer, by the way,” he added.
“i know,” you said automatically.
You made a soft, almost strangled noise and covered your face with both hands. “Oh my gosh.”
Spencer blinked, startled
“I—that sounded creepy,” you mumbled into your palms. “I didnt men it like that, I’m not—I’m not stalking you or anything i—“
Your hands hovered in front of your face as you started talking too fast.
“I’ve seen you here, like… sometimes—but it’s a café so thats completely normal and i heard them call your name—when your uhm.. order is ready. An—and i saw that you read really fast, which i noticed, and is again normal to notice. Not like a weird observation—well, it’s a little weird, but impressive nonetheless…” You paused, slightly mortified.
His mouth twitched, trying not to smile
“And i told myself,” you rushed on gesturing vaguely. “That if i saw you again today, i would just do it and ask you out, and then you were here again—which, obviously, because you’re always here, which sounds worse than it did in my head.” You abruptly stop. Squeezing your eyes shut and mental berating yourself to spilling your guts to the handsome guy at the cafe.
“I should stop talking.” You sighed into defeat. That’s it. You definitely ruined your chances.
After a beat, he let out another soft laugh. You slowly lowered your hands.
“If anything,” his expression became a little sheepish, “It’s consistent behavior. Repeated exposure to the same environment increases the likelihood of noticing patterns. Patterns including people.”
You stared at Spencer. His list getting longer and longer. Not only was he drop dead gorgeous, but smart, and knew how to laugh and ease the awkwardness.
Then, without thinking you blurted out, “I just thought you were handsome.”
The words were soft and honest. His entire face changed. Not dramatically, just a small pause. almost a flicker of surprise. Than was overtaken by something warm. Something honest. Almost a fragility to him as if he were handed something made of glass rather than a compliment. The word was on the tip of your tongue. Almost as if he were in disbelief that you thought that of him.
“Oh,” he said quieter now.
You winced slightly. “Sorry— that was—“
“No,” he said quickly. “No that’s… nice. That’s really nice.”
You laughed nervously. “Cool. Great. This is totallyyy normal.”
He reached out, almost like he was going to comfort you, but his fingers grasped the lip of the table instead. “You’re doing fine,” he said, and it sounded like he meant it.
That steadied you, at least a little. Enough to remember that you haven’t even introduced yourself. Wincing you turned around and sheepishly said your name, and a hurried apology for forgetting. Earning you another soft smile.
“Anyways,” you continued, rocking back on your heels again. “Tomorrow. Same café. Less nerves—well maybe. I guess.”
He smiled. “I’ll be here.”
“I hope— i mean i know,” you started, then caught yourself, squeezing your eyes shut for another second. “—not in a creepy way of course.”
He laughed, softer this time. “I know.”
You pointed at him as you started backing away. “And please—“ you cleared your throat,” i mean no practicing gymnastics to get out of it.”
“i promise,” he said. “I will rely exclusively on breathing.”
“Good.”
You turned and began making your way toward the exit. Only making it a few steps before you paused. Glancing back at him with a shy smile tugging at your lips, a soft flush overtaking the apple of your cheeks.
“Im really.. really glad you were here again.”
He held your gaze, something gentle settling into his expression.
“Me too.”

Things between you and Peter change with the seasons. [17k]
c: friends-to-lovers, hurt/comfort, loneliness, peter parker isn’t good at hiding his alter ego, fluff, first kisses, mutual pining, loved-up epilogue, mention of self-harm with no graphic imagery
。𖦹°‧⭑.ᐟ
Fall
Peter Parker is a resting place for overworked eyes, like warm topaz nestled against a blue-cold city. He waits on you with his eyes to the screen of his phone, clicking the power button repetitively. A nervous tic.
You close the heavy door of your apartment building. His head stays still, yet he’s heard the sound of it settling, evidence in his calmed hand.
“Good morning!” You pull your coat on quickly. “Sorry.”
“Good morning,” he says, offering a sleep-logged smile. “Should we go?”
You follow Peter out of the cul-de-sac and into the street as he drops his phone into a deep pocket. To his credit, he doesn’t check it while you walk, and only glances at it when you’re taking your coat off in the heat of your favourite cafe: The Moroccan Mode glows around you, fog kissing the windows, condensation running down the inner lengths of it in beads. You murmur something to do with the odd fog and Peter tells you about water vapour. When it rains tonight, he says it’ll be warm water that falls.
He spreads his textbook, notebook, and rinky-dink laptop out across the table while you order drinks. Peter has the same thing every visit, a decaf americano, in a wide brim mug with the pink-petal saucer. You put it down on his textbook only because that’s where he would put it himself, and you both get to work.
As Peter helps you study, you note the simplicity of another normal day, and can’t help wondering what it is that’s missing. Something is, something Peter won’t tell you, the absence of a truth hanging over your heads. You ask him if he wants to get dinner and he says no, he’s busy. You ask him to see a movie on Friday night and he wishes he could.
Peter misses you. When he tells you, you believe him. “I wish I had more time,” he says.
“It’s fine,” you say, “you can’t help it.”
“We’ll do something next weekend,” he says. The lie slips out easily.
To Peter it isn’t a lie. In his head, he’ll find the time for you again, and you’ll be friends like you used to be.
You press the end of your pencil into your cheek, the dark roast, white paper and condensation like grey noise. This time last year, the air had been thick for days with fog you could cut. He took you on a trip to Manhattan, less than an hour from your red-brick neighbourhood, and you spent the day in a hotel pool throwing great cupfuls of water at each other. The fog was gone just fifteen miles away from home but the warm air stayed. When it rained it was sudden, strange, spit-warm splashes of it hammering the tops of your heads, your cheeks as you tipped your faces back to spy the dark clouds.
Peter had swam the short distance to you and held your shoulders. You remember feeling like your whole life was there, somewhere you’d never been before, the sharp edges of cracked pool tile just under your feet.
You peek over the top of your laptop screen and wonder if Peter ever thinks of that trip.
He feels you watching and meets your eyes. “I have to tell you something,” he says, smiling shyly.
hi! could you do a blurb about remus comforting princess!reader after she fights with her mom about marrying? tysm! loving them so far
hi! tysm for the request, i hope you like it!
warnings: princess!reader, reader is james’ little sister, royalty au, arranged marriage (not between reader and remus) and mentions of such, jily!, reader is a bit of a prat, hardly any mention of time period, but assume it is not modern lol
from this au
pairings: remus lupin x fem!potter!reader 0.7k
When Remus finds you in the gardens, your heels are dug so deep that the hem of your dress is sufficiently soiled in the wet grass below it. Remus knows what had happened, most of the castle likely did when your mother and you got into a fit with each other. Your shoulders are trembling on the stone bench you’re sat at, and he thinks it just might be the saddest thing he’s ever seen.
He pushes himself to finally step next to the bench and sits, the only noise of acknowledgment you give Remus is a very wet sniffle.
“Are you alright?” Is the only thing Remus can manage to think of to say.
“Don’t–“ You start, breath trembling. Remus’ stomach turns. “Don’t pity me.”
His heart falls, watching you try and wipe your tears with a now ruined glove, touches of your makeup smeared across the palm of it. He watches your bottom lip jut slightly, trembling as you try to catch your tears before they fall.
“I don’t pity you.” He says.
“But you don’t understand.” You manage out through the short exhales. “None of you do.”
“You.. You get the choice, nevermind choices, to marry who you want,” Your lashes catch thick tears. “To say no.”
“I know, dove,” Remus isn’t sure anything he can say will make you feel better, but this is all he can offer. “S’not fair.”
You shake your head messily, breathing slowly. You repeat his words, “Not fair.”
Remus reaches into his pocket and hands you an old handkerchief, stitched with different flowers. Some of the flowers are stitched cleanly, while others are fraying at where the thread loops. He smiles at your hesitation and a quick, ‘It’s clean,’ has you reaching for it. You both sit in silence, and Remus listens as the intervals of your sniffling become longer. Your elbow graces his lightly, yet you’re now looking down at his handkerchief.
“It’s very pretty,” you murmur.
He knows you won’t look at him, not right now. You’re too stubborn and beyond that he knows that although the rules are why you’re like this, you’ll follow them because it is your duty.
“My mother made it,” he smiles softly at you.
“But you stitched this,” your finger taps at one of the messy flowers, it has four lopsided petals.
“Yes,” Remus laughs, but nods nonetheless. “Yes. That one is mine.”
“S’not very good,” you murmur through the thick of your sadness, yet the tears have finally stopped.
“Yeah?” He moves slightly across the stone bench until your shoes are touching. “Going to give me a lesson?”
This makes your frown soften, the corner of your lips picking up. It makes Remus’ heart stutter.
“As if you would listen,” you say.
‘I would listen to you forever,’ is what Remus wants to say, but he settles for a very mundane, “I’ll try my hardest.”
The glove sits on your lap, as you continue to stare at it, fingers tracing the seams. Although your tears are gone, your thick eyelashes are evidence of the past hour. You finally look up at Remus, all the tension from your face eased.
Remus picks up his hand, gently picks something off your face. His fingers hardly touch your damp cheek and he smiles suddenly.
“Eyelash. Make a wish?” His thumb is already up.
Your smile grows slowly, picking up your thumb to wrestle his for the wish. “Mhm.”
With that agreement, you both silently make your wishes and push your thumbs together.
When your fingers part, the eyelash sticks to your thumb and satisfied noise leaves your lips. Remus watches as you blow it away gently, turning back to him.
“Wish for something good?” Remus says.
He looks at you this time, dress muddied and makeup strewn across your eyes from tears; and yet, you still are as beautiful as this morning. Your head tilts at his staring, and you send him a face with an eyebrow raised. But it doesn’t really matter to him, he thinks, he knows he’s being selfish.
“I think so,” you reply softly, turning back to the gardens.
You two sit there until your sniffling stops, until the fireflies come out and until Remus decides it’s probably time for you to head inside.
That night, you let him walk you.

“Excuse me!”
It’s the only warning you give as you dive underneath an umbrella, squishing yourself to a stranger’s side. You shuffle close to them, looking over your shoulder to ensure your hair is fully shielded from the rain.
“Sorry, hi. Can I steal…” You look up into a handsome face with curious brown eyes. One corner of the stranger’s mouth is quirked as if in anticipation of amusement. It stuns you for a moment. “...some real estate under here for a—for a second?”
“Sure,” he says, drawn out long like a question. That quirked corner twitches.
You do your best to gather your wits. “Can I ask where you’re headed?”
“Me or my umbrella?”
His humor, a noticeable improvement over the irritation of the man whose umbrella you’d crammed under at the last crosswalk, sends a crack of relief through you. You smile. “Both?”
He nods as though taking this into consideration. “We’re headed towards ninety-second and third.”
Hi,
I love your writing and your ideas.I was worried if you could write sth about remus as a detectiv. Maby he and reader meet on the job or they are partners.Do whatever you want. Hope this inspires you💗

Thunder booms, and you flinch. The detective’s eyebrows lift a millimeter. You pull his jacket closer over your wet clothes, embarrassed.
“Can I make you some tea?” he offers.
“No, thank you.”
You sit in silence for a few heartbeats. The detective seems comfortable with it, but you squirm, his gaze too discerning for your liking. The rain you’ve both come in from has slicked a few tendrils of hair to his forehead, the rest fighting valiantly to curl at the ends. His face is scattered with scars you’d expect more from a hardened military type than a cop, and the circles under his eyes hint at more than one long night spent at the station. Nights probably not unlike this one, only a smattering of police around as he interviews you at his desk.
“Officer—”
“Remus,” he reminds you gently.
“Right, sorry.” Your voice quiets. Remus’ expression softens, going tender like he wants to reject your apology, but he doesn’t speak. “Don’t you have questions for me?”
“I do,” he says, “but—I hope you’ll excuse me for saying—you seem rather shaken up.”
A laugh, short and humorless, puffs out of you.
“I’m not saying I don’t understand why.” His calm gaze doesn’t leave yours. “Witnesses are generally more reliable once they’ve had a chance to get comfortable, though. Process what they’ve seen.”

“Oh, Merlin."
The intonation of your voice is the same as it always is when you’re mildly distressed. Exactly the same as when you had been eleven and Remus had stepped into griffen poo. Or just last week, when James had spilled his pumpkin juice all over his front.
So, only naturally, Remus’ attention snaps to you. Your ‘mild’ distress tends to be particularly distressing for him.
“What is it, dovey?” His arm snakes around your waist, trying to pin-point what has caught your attention.
You being the helpful little witch you are, point straight to the tallest tower of the castle. He swears his heart drops to his knees. From the spire hangs…your scarf. The very scarf you had been looking for last week. The one you had shed actual tears over while Remus cradled you to his chest.
It shines green against the sun. And though he knows it isn’t possible, he can almost see the little yellow and pink flowers you had embroidered at the hems in your second year.
“How did it get up there?” He says, though he does have an inkling.
“Maybe it got stuck when I tried to Accio it,” You muse. It hasn’t. You both know.
He casts his own ‘Accio’ charm. The scarf does not budge.
“Maybe Jamie can fetch it? On his broom?” You say, tone light.
“Yeah, he can.”
“Or, Reg. It’s fine, Remus.”
He knows what you’re doing. You’re not bothered yet. You’re never bothered when one of your dorm mates decides to ‘play treasure-hunt’ with you. But he will be. He will be very angry with those dormates. You don’t deserve your things to be hidden around the castle. You’re sweet and caring and way too kind despite being best friends with Barty Crouch and Regulus Black, but you don’t-
“Rem.” Your head is tilted as you look up at him. You’re worried for him.
“It’s fine, Remus, I’m-”
“It’s not fine.” He snaps, but he’s recoiling instantly when you flinch, “I’m sorry, dove.”
“It’s okay.” You smile at him, still trying to placate him.
“It might not budge if it has a charm on it,” He says, gentler this time, squeezing your waist in a silent apology.
“That’s okay, maybe Reg can carry me up to reverse it. Or I can teach it to him.”
That’s what Remus loves so much about you. Always a problem solver. Always an optimist. Nothing can drag you down too much. He can’t help the soppy little smile he gives you. The one that makes you giggle and pinch one of his cheeks.
“Got wrackspurts in your brain again, have you?” You ask, voice only slightly concerned.
“No, just you,” He hums. You give him a lovestruck smile of your own, cheeks slightly flushed.
°‧ 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 ·。
It is Barty who ends up getting the scarf for you. He climbs up the astronomy tower in surprising ease and quite literally rips the scarf off and precariously clambers back down. You had let out a very indignant Bartemius! When you realised what he had done.
But he was mad. Still is.
Remus can see it in the set of his jaw as Evan tends to his boyfriend’s scraped knees.
“How did it get up there, Treasure?” Barty is clearly restraining his anger, something Remus had failed to do earlier.
“I don’t know,” You answer, brows furrowed ever so slightly as you string beads made out of a cool white stone onto one of the fringes of your scarf.
“You must have an idea,” Remus coaxes. You instantly offer him a smile. He’s not quite sure why.
“I don’t,” You repeat.
“You’re being honest?” Barty asks, though Remus knows he doesn’t believe you.
“Yes, Bartemius.”
“Okay, Treasure.”
Remus watches you silently, as you tie in a knot to the fringe, to keep the beads in place. You hold it up with the slight tilt of your head as you observe it.
“Does it look nice?” You asked,
“It looks perfect, love,” He says, rubbing down your back. You shudder slightly and he catches Barty make a fake gagging motion from the corner of his eye.
“Well no one can get it confused now,” You smile, “It is obviously mine.”
Evan snorts. You furrow your brows at him. He simply shakes his head in response.
But Remus knows what he’s thinking. No one confused your favorite scarf. Everyone knew whose it was. This was done on purpose. And the reminder made Remus’ stomach twist.
°‧ 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 ·。
Things are better for the next two weeks.
Until you rush into potions thirty minutes late, apologising profusely. Remus can’t help the concern rising in his chest.
You sit beside Pandora who tilts her head at you, brows furrowed slightly. He watches you quietly mutter between each other. He can’t put a finger on what is missing. Not until you begin explaining animatedly and he notes the absence of the jangle of beads and metal. His eyes widen. You have no jewelry on, whatsoever.
Remus is not an angry guy. He prides himself on keeping his emotions down on the low. But right now, his fury is reaching a tipping point. Your dormmates are snickering amongst each other. He isn’t going to let them get away with it this time.
You get through class horribly. Your generally perfect potion comes out pink and bubbling out of the cauldron. Pandora tries to placate you with her gentle hands, but he can see tears blooming on your waterline, and his heart twists in pain. Naturally, Slughorn pulls you aside for a chat. He’s concerned about his star student.
Remus takes the opportunity to trail after your dormmates.
“Hey!” He calls, hoping his voice is firm. The girls turn slowly, their expressions smug. Five in total, but Remus zeroes in on the girl in the center. Her arms cross over her chest, lips turning into a nasty sneer.
“What? Miss. Woozy can’t defend herself, now?”
Remus’ eyes narrow, “Where’d you put her stuff?”
“And why should I tell you?”
Remus knows there are many ways to respond. If Regulus or Barty find out, he has no doubt these girls will land with broken noses and bleeding lips. But the best way came with a sharp flick of his wand.
Large bat shaped bogeys fly out of each nostril, flapping their wings. Shrieks of disgust and shock erupt from the group. He watches the others scramble to get away from the girl. He can’t help the satisfied smirk that settles on his lips.
“So where is her stuff?” He repeats.
“Turn me back, you freak!”
“Tell me where her stuff is.”
The girl screams, flailing at the humiliation. People are gathering now, watching the show. He clicks his tongue, waiting. He really hopes he could get this over with before you exit the class. You won’t like it, he knows.
“Come on, or should I cast another-”
“It’s in the mud beyond the Groundskeeper shack!” One of the other girls exclaims.
He raises his brows, humming, “Go get it.”
For a moment, he is worried no one will listen to him. He lets his wand hand twitch. Three girls rush off at once.
“Now, I trust you won’t steal her things again?” He asks the first one, but all he can see is her snot. She shakes her head frantically, face turning purple.
“Turn me back!” She cries, “I promise I won’t bother her.”
“Good.” He reverses the spell, giving her a parting smile as she scrambles away. His friends come to stand beside him, actively shooing away the gathered crowd.
“That was bloody brilliant,” James says, patting Remus on the back.
“Well, Y/N deserves more,” He replies.
As though summoned, he hears your lovely voice calling out to him. Your arms are slung around your body, making yourself heartbreakingly small.
“I lost my bracelets,” You say softly, once he breaks away from the others.
He pulls you into his side, “Don’t worry, dovey. They’ll turn up soon.”
You tilt your head up at him and his own throat clogs at the sight of the tear tracks on your face. But your gaze is knowing. So he presses a chaste kiss to your lips.
Remus is not a reckless guy, but for you? For you, he’d reel in the moon or dim the sun. He’d do a lot more than cast a hex.
You are his girl, after all.

This hadn’t been the plan in the slightest.
One minute you were at your boyfriend’s soccer game, sitting on the sidelines with the rest of the sports med team and trying to finish your chemistry homework between water breaks. The next, you were following the ambulance he was in to the emergency department.
Yeah. Definitely not the plan.
It wasn’t like injuries were rare in soccer. Fights weren’t exactly unheard of either, especially during rivalry games. You’d seen sprained ankles, dislocated fingers, concussions, even one really nasty tib-fib fracture during your sophomore year.
