haven't read higurashi (yet) but i felt compelled
now that i finished alien 9, time to watch something else... so, im watching haibane renmei :} my thoughts on ep 1!!
im already pretty into this, it seems neat :}
so, something happens to humans, but no one knows what, or who they used to be... just that they're now something they call haibane. and theyre not allowed into the outside world?
the scene where rakka grew her wings was brutal, pretty awesome honestly. and reki letting her bite her thumb so she doesnt bite her tongue off... so, they can get hurt, possibly fatally.
it definitely doesnt seem to be an afterlife, unless its a sort of reincarnation.
the wings are natural, so i wonder what the ring/halo does?
im excited to learn more about this!!
ep 2!
so the haibane are like... lower class citizens, it seems. :{
being "allowed" to live where they do, yet given used clothes and such. they're not allowed to have money, but have to use their progress reports from work to buy things.
i wonder what kind of job rakka will be given...? at the very least, it doesnt seem like the jobs they have to do are the worst. working at a bakery and a library and clocktower and such isnt so bad.
but it isnt just the haibane, its also the humans living there, too... i wonder why that is? i had at first thought it was a town of only haibane, but if there's humans there, not allowed to communicate with the outsiders (the toga/touga?) i wonder what separates them from the humans outside. they arent even allowed to leave or learn about the outside world, from what it seems.
the crow from rakka's dream came up again, perhaps i shouldve noted that in my first thing, i think its cute how she gave it a hug in her dream.
maybe the crow has some ties to her past, in a way? the crow in her dream did try to stop her from falling, after all, like it was trying to protect her from going there... hrmmm.
and the haibane renmei are just as mysterious, im excited to learn more about everything. i have a feeling the desire to see her old home will lead rakka to some dangerous territory of trying to learn about or even go outside.
i like the atmosphere of this series so far, though. its calm and relaxing and beautiful, but there's a darkness to it as well. there's something sinister going on, some reason that everyone is locked up in this town and secluded from the rest of the world. its sweet, almost idyllic, but there's more to it than what we see, and hints of that come through the cracks.
ep 3 :}
not too much to say about this episode, really. i mean, the temple was cool... i still feel bad for them, being unable to speak and whatnot... its so mean!!!!
i think hikari is justified using the halo pan to make bagels out of. the price the haibane renmei pay for being so mean-
crows came up again, though... how they're scorned, and cant speak, yet mean well... a parallel to the haibane, perhaps?
also like, did they just boil carrots and serve that to the kids?? nothing else to it?? carrots arent even that bitter imo, maybe carrots grown in japan are, thus inspiring the ones in the anime to be bitter?
i think its the house mothers fault for not making more yummy veggie meals... i know not so many resources are allocated to the haibane, but still. a little butter and pan fry them bad boys or somethin... maybe a touch of sugar to cut back the bite of the bitterness?? anyways. thats not really the point here.
oh, and at the beginning, reki had a nightmare... i wonder what it was about. seems its reoccurring...
oh, and i like that rakka is really starting to come into her own. she's starting to really get her personality and opinions out there, its nice :}
im excited for more, and i have to note that i love the lighting and color choices in the backgrounds. sometimes its a little dark like how it would be without overhead electricity, and sometimes outside its really bright... yet overall, its so soft. that + the things they show really do feel like a dream... and well, dreams are an important thing to the haibane, so it makes sense :}
ep 4!
the crows are super prevalent in this one, but the most notable is the one from rakka's dream, i think... its glowing blue eyes... i wonder what it means?
and the fact that kana was talking about how the crows need to be able to leave, it wouldnt be right if they just stayed inside the walls... i wonder if that could be a metaphor for anything.
i really like rakka's interactions with everyone, and its fun seeing the little bits of her old personality(?) come back to her, like how she used to sing when biking.
the clocktower grandpa was a bit of a dick, but i guess he's alright. he's got that traditional "not gonna show affection but really cares about that person as if they're his child" type personality.
maybe i was a little wrong about how the haibane are seen? maybe they're not really lesser citizens, but something special... not sure, though. the whole "cant get anything except for second-hand stuff" still is :/
the rituals are intricate and all, i suppose...
anyways. kana is funny, i like her :}
awesome minecraft fact
its gubes 🧊

people foolishly dismiss desserts and treats as having no nutritional value when they actually are necessary for refilling your sanity stat. to prove my point please observe the emotional stability of the next person you meet who doesnt let themselves ever eat any form of dessert
trying to update uma musume and every time the data downloaded screen gets to like 90% it crashes on me. i tried it 5 times now and it never worked.

I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
my coworker announces that he's off to the dentist. someone reacts with a tooth emoji. is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer?) teeth than he set out with? simple word association? who can say
The worst types of cookbook:
The Ottolenghi - it is vital that you use 1g of this very expensive ingredient. It comes from a 500g bag with a one-week shelf life.
The time machine - 15-minute recipe! First, leave to marinate overnight...
The dishwasher - one-pot recipe! Now decant your ingredients and wipe out your pot. And again. And again. And again.
The optimist - cook the onions until caramelised (2 minutes).
The kindergarten teacher - get one nommable little tree of broccoli and bosh that into boiling water. Delish!
The brand names only - ingredients: Ritz crackers, Philadelphia cheese, Cool Whip, orange Jell-o...
The 1950s palate - use one (1) clove of garlic and a small pinch of chili flakes (omit if preferred).
The why bother with a cookbook - to make beans on toast, gently heat a tin of beans and put on top of freshly buttered toast.
posts with fake songs i can imagine so perfectly it’s like they were real
