Nico and Will are my favorite Riordanverse characters and I think we can never have enough content of all of them!

Leaving the patient in bliss while his muscles contort in agony and screaming at him to stop? Like that little ability to take people's pain and taking it instead?

I'd like to imagine that whatever injuries he was able to heal completely will slowly stop the pain. Hence why he hurries to heal them faster. Not just to save their lives but also to relieve himself of the pain he's experiencing.

I don't think anyone knows about this.

So when he's in excruciating pain. As in UNBEARABLE pain. It hurts so bad that he can't speak or tell anyone why it hurts so bad. He just sits there and prays to Apollo that the pain will go away and he can finally breathe.

Imagine after someone fell into the lava wall their body burning. Suffering from many third degree wounds. Will automatically takes their pain leaving them to relax but his own body is shaking as he shoves his thoughts down.

The same thoughts that are telling him that it's too much and he should fucking stop.

Imagine him walking to the Hades cabin. Ask Nico for comfort but can't say anything to him cause it hurts so bad so he just stands there as Nico watches him in concern.

I kinda have a similar idea for Nico where the reason he knows when people die is because he can hear their soul screaming out for him in their last moments, and, depending on how close he was with the person (aka how bonded their souls are), the more painful it is when they die.

like he can literally feel and hear their last moments, with them.

when Jason died he could hear his last pleas and wishes. All the longing for family he couldn't find in New Rome and what he lost when he left CHB. The pure desperation for piper to make it and apollo to remember and Ohmygods no one will remember me and I wish I had a family omygodsthaliaplease don't bemad.

Everything Jason couldn't think about Nico thought about for him. The words are blurry both in his ears and in his vison. So he can only catch glances of thoughts like "Panic" or "Help", which he knows are not his own emotions, they all sound like Jason is begging Nico though someone else's mind. Like they're not real.

but the pain, the pain is so real.

it's real enough to cloud his vison, for his instincts to start sending out every ounce of power he has in a desperate attempt to save him from the threat that is miles away. The fact that Jason died slowly did not help. at least Bianca's death was quick.

"Nico will always be there for his friends to spare them from pain in their last moments, he doesn't do it for everyone, but.. he'd forever feel guilty if he didn't at least do it for his closest friends".. or at least that's what he tells himself, but he can't escape it.

He was raised by a single southern mother, and considering he's caring for the entire camp— the mother inside of him rages.

Even Nico is wary of him when he's in a bad mood.

Getting sent back to the past when he was chased around with a slipper by his mother back in the 30s..

Just because Nico's his boyfriend does NOT mean he escapes the fate of the flip flop. 😬

It would also be a good tactic to get Nico to stand down whenever Will says so. Considering in TSATS Will glares at him when Nico mocks him with Small Bob.

ONE LOOK from Will is enough to have Nico folding. 😭🙏

Just IMAGINE. Nico is getting on Will's nerves form across the infirmary and all Will does is pull out the flip flop and Nico cowers back and stops pushing his buttons.

Will: "Nico. This is the THIRD TIME this week that you've shadow-traveled."

Nico:

Will: "I've told you time and time again— to STOP shadow-traveling because it DRAINS you."

Nico: "Will. You are not the boss of me, I am the GHOST KING. You can't tell me what to—"

Will: *Pulls out flip flop.*

Nico: "Actually on second thought? You are the boss of me. Deepest apologies, amore."

A camper who just wanted to get his broken arm fixed: "What the fuck—"

I've been flip flopped in the head many times by my mom and they just hit the back of your head and it's sent out as a warning?

And I always giggle after it or just run with no trauma whatsoever.

I'm just writing my headcanon as to what I've experienced before. And yes. I love my mom me and her have a good relationship. And the throwing flip-flops do not hurt at all to me. And i'm pretty sure Nico sees that Will won't ACTUALLY abuse Nico in that sense.

He definitely just throws his flip flop at the back of Nico's head whenever he suspects Nico is shadow-travelling or is about to even though Nico was told not to— and sent it out as warning message not to shadow travel cause he'll literally throw into shadows.

And also I think this headcanon is just meant ina comedic sense in a way. Nico does NOT see Will holding a flipflop as a threat, and Will is obviously way more overpowered by Nico.

Nico can take him down immediately if Will does something out of line that's true. Nico is just intimidated. (Like how you'd be intimidated by an angry mom. Which is kind of how I'm depicting Will here an stern mom giving out kids warnings by throwing them flip flops at the back of their head.)

But not actually intimidated to the point he sees Will as a threat. He plays along, and purely it's just for comedic purposes if you think about it. 😭

Think about it. You're a new camper, playing capture the flag and trying to sneak around back to get it, and all that's guarding the route is a weird emo kid and no one else. Should be easy you might be untrained but he's tiny and frail so he should be easy to take down. Clearly no one gave much thought to guarding this part of the forest.

And it's going great until he sees you and instead of using his weird ass sword he holds out a hand and a fucking femur sprigns from the ground and into his hand like Thor with Mjolnir. Then he charges, the femur held up like a baseball bat ready to swing.
