Fornarina London, designed by Giorgio Borruso (2006)
“The space is icy and blue – almost as if you’re traveling through a frozen cavern in the Antarctic. A molded, liquid-like material covers the entire space, flowing across the ceiling and down to the dressing rooms, creating protruding ice blocks for seats and product pedestals. Giorgio went for the effect of clouds billowing against a blue sky. “I love London—but not its gray weather,” the architect says. “This luminous membrane makes customers forget for a moment that it’s raining outside.” Borruso achieved that effect by covering portions of the ceilings and walls in the two-level space with 1,000 biomorphic pieces of molded polycarbonate and backlighting them with color-changing LEDs that shift from blue to white. Thanks to metal strips, the pieces are attached magnetically, allowing them to be rearranged at any time.”

Shiseido Cosmetics & Architecture Research Office (2001)
“Sensual materials, diffused lighting and curvaceous forms create a calm, glowing landscape at Shiseido Cosmetics Qiora Store + Spa in New York. Products glow on display fixtures illuminated with fiber-optic uplights that cycle through shades of white during the day and blue at night. Inside, curvilinear shapes encourage exploration. Hard surfaces are veiled in suspended, translucent fabric panels.”

‘Invisible Dimension’ - Mariko Mori (2018)
“The multimedia artist’s deepening interest in the dark matter and energy of the universe—in particular, superstring theory and particle physics—inspired her latest body of work: eight sculptures, each meticulously produced to represent a different dimension of hidden space and realms. “My exhibition is focused on a vision of the universe that comes from string theory,” she says, “a multiverse existing in an endless cycle where one Big Bang ends and another begins. But I’m not trying to visualize its physicality—just the flow of energy within it.”
Check it out now at the Sean Kelly Gallery in NYC! (March 23rd - April 28th)

XL Bar & Lounge - 357 W. 16th Street, Chelsea, NYC (April 2001-2006)
Designed by Desgrippes Gobé Group
“…Even the tables change color, as lighting is directed onto the translucent acrylic tops to create the illusion of internal illumination. In keeping with the atmospheric lighting, images are projected onto the ceiling and upper walls from two banks of projectors. Virtual blue skies and fluffy clouds that decorate the ceiling in early-evening turn into crazy graphics or porn by midnight. The bathroom is notable for placing the urinals and wash basins facing each other, with a large glowing fish-tank in between.”
It was apparently featured on an episode of Sex and the City, if anyone knows which episode let me know!
