24 . 06 . 17 'THE HUMAN JUKEBOX' @imagineluton x @houseofabsolute - #tb to the start of the summer where I had the amazing opportunity to design the set for 'The Human Jukebox' - an interactive, interdisciplinary live performance piece created by @juliachenghoa for the #ImagineLuton festival weekend. Using the broad genre of science fiction as a starting point, we decided on the idea of the 'retrofutureverse' as our eventual direction. A 6m circular dancefloor encouraged spectating from all directions, and the vinyl flooring was outlined with a powerful colour changing LED light for subtle visual impact visible even in daylight. The piece would be performed four times across two different locations throughout the weekend and so had to be modular and easy to store overnight. (at Imagine Luton)

Gemma O'Brien designed our costumes to emphasise the physical qualities of #breaking and #voguing, the purple motifs on mine and Raymond's outfits referencing the elements of both Old Way and New Way voguing respectively. #PurpleJigsaw explores gender politics using the two highly gendered street styles of #breaking and #vogue. Even more blessed to be part of a small but perfectly formed family known formally as the Houston Dance Collective, spearheaded by the fiery @bgirlshortbreaduk & feat. powerhouse @rox_roxane_zana and slick af @raymondwade91. And me 🙂. We tore up the #SadlersWells mainstage on the first night of #BreakinConvention with our piece exploring the gender politics of dance using the two highly gendered street styles of #breaking and #vogue.
