more headcanons
details that have influenced my writing that should have certainly been in the bio but somehow... aren’t? (in my defense i stayed up until midnight to get that in to make sure i got it in before the botanist got closed for apps <3)
Family:
Willow’s father’s name was Dr. Gregory Murphy. He grew up in Quebec, in the house she was raised in. Before the UEG began sponsoring his research exclusively, he worked as a professor at a research institute and university in the city.
Her mother’s name was Emilia Hudson. She was a researcher in biology and virology at the university where Willow’s father worked. The two were only dating a few months when Emilia got pregnant expectedly. Although neither were prepared for this, Gregory had always dreamed of being a father and was thrilled.
After Willow was born, they both were dedicated to co-parenting her despite their relationship being new and not very strong, with Emilia even moving into Gregory’s house so they could both be with her and raise her.
Before Willow’s first birthday, though, Emilia contracted a lung disease after a research team she was on got caught up in a bad dust storm. She passed shortly after, leaving Gregory a single father.
Although Willow never knew her mother well, her father made an effort to teach her about her mother and her mother’s work. Willow has remained in touch with her mother’s family, although she has never been particularly close to them.
Languages:
She speaks English and Canadian French fluently, as those were the languages she grew up with. In the few years she’s spent in Japan preparing for this mission, she’s learned a lot of Japanese and can hold a basic conversation.
