Are You Fasting or Just Not Eating? The Earth Shakes—Will You Seek God’s Face?
My beloved sons and daughters in the Lord,
As your spiritual father, I come to you with a heavy yet hopeful heart on this day. The news from Venezuela grips us all: twin earthquakes have devastated communities, claiming over 500 lives with thousands still missing beneath the rubble.41 In the natural, the ground trembles and buildings fall. But through the prophetic lens of the Holy Ghost, this is a clarion call to the Church. When the foundations of the earth are shaken, it is time for the people of God to shake the heavens with prayer and intentional fasting. Not mere hunger pangs, but a consecrated denial of the flesh to release Holy Ghost power.
“Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” (Matthew 17:21, KJV)
Jesus spoke these words after His disciples failed to cast out a particularly stubborn demon. The exegesis is clear and urgent: some spiritual battles—whether demonic oppression, national crises, or personal strongholds—require more than casual prayer. They demand the alignment of spirit, soul, and body through fasting. The disciples relied on their own strength and previous successes, but Jesus pointed them back to the discipline that breaks yokes. Fasting is not for show; it is warfare. It starves the flesh so the spirit can feast on the Word and power of God. In a world reeling from disasters, political upheavals, and moral decay, we cannot afford half-hearted Christianity. The Holy Ghost is calling for a remnant who will fast with purpose.12
Too many today are “just not eating”—skipping meals out of busyness, diet trends, or circumstance—while their spirit remains unchanged. Intentional fasting is altogether different. It is a deliberate, Spirit-led sacrifice where you set aside food (or certain foods) to seek God’s face with urgency. Your spirit man rises in authority as your soul submits to the Holy Ghost and your body is brought under subjection. This alignment produces personal growth: greater discernment, broken addictions, renewed passion for holiness, and breakthroughs that glorify Christ. It is obedience over appetite—the very pathway to Holy Ghost power for these last days.
Practical Steps to Begin Intentional Fasting Today:
• Set a Clear Purpose: Before you fast, identify the burden—perhaps interceding for Venezuela, your family’s deliverance, or revival in your city. Write it down and pray over it.
• Choose Your Fast with Wisdom: Start with one meal, a Daniel fast (vegetables and water), or a full day if the Lord leads. Consult your physician if you have health concerns.
• Replace Meals with Prayer: Every time hunger strikes, go to the Word and pray in the Spirit. Use that energy to war in the heavenlies.
• Maintain Holiness and Secrecy: Anoint your head, wash your face (Matthew 6:17), and let it be between you and God. Avoid boasting.
• Break the Fast Gradually: End with light foods and thanksgiving. Journal what the Lord showed you.
My dear people, this is not optional. The shaking we see demands a Church that fasts. That is why I wrote the book “Are You Fasting or Just Not Eating?”—a prophetic manual born from years of walking this out in ministry. It will equip you with deeper revelation, testimonies of power, and step-by-step guidance to walk in victory. This book is essential reading for every believer hungry for more of God. Get your copy today on Amazon and let it become your constant companion in this consecration.
Now, I ask you in the spirit of a father who loves you dearly: What burden is the Holy Ghost laying on your heart right now that requires prayer and fasting? Share in the comments—I will stand with you in agreement.

Are You Fasting or Just Not Eating?
June 17, 2026 - The Urgent Call in a World of Ceasefires and Chaos
My beloved sons and daughters in Christ, hear the word of the Lord this day! As your spiritual father, Superintendent Dr. Gary L. Cordon, Sr., I come to you with a heavy yet hopeful heart. The world is trembling with reports of fragile peace deals and gathering storms. Just today, President Trump announced a preliminary peace agreement with Iran, extending ceasefires amid ongoing global tensions at the G7 summit and warnings in the English Channel.
These headlines are not mere politics, saints—they are signs. When men speak of peace and safety, sudden destruction can come (1 Thessalonians 5:3). In such an hour, the Church cannot afford casual religion. We must ask: Are you truly fasting unto the Lord, or are you just not eating? There is a mighty difference, and the Holy Ghost is calling us higher!
“Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.” (Matthew 6:16-18, KJV)
What does this mean, church? Jesus is not condemning the act of fasting—He is commanding the right heart. The hypocrites fast for show, starving the body while feeding pride. But true biblical fasting is intentional denial of the flesh to align spirit, soul, and body under the Holy Ghost’s power. It is not passive skipping meals due to busyness or neglect. It is a consecrated weapon for breakthrough, humility, and fresh oil from Heaven.
In these last days, many are “not eating” yet remain unchanged—still bound by appetite, lust, anger, or fear. Their spirit is weak because the fast lacks purpose, prayer, and obedience. But when you fast intentionally, the Holy Ghost breaks every yoke! Your prayers pierce the heavens, your discernment sharpens against deception, and personal growth explodes as the flesh dies and the Spirit rules. Holiness is not optional—it is the fruit of a fasting life. Obedience over appetite brings Holy Ghost power like never before.
Practical Steps for Intentional Fasting Today:
• Set a Clear Purpose: Before you begin, seek the Lord. Fast for revival in your home, power against temptation, or intercession for our nation amid these shaky “peace” deals.
• Prepare Spirit, Soul, and Body: Pray and read the Word more than usual. Drink water, rest, and anoint yourself as Jesus taught—do it privately unto God.
• Deny the Flesh Completely: Replace meal times with prayer and worship. When hunger strikes, declare, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God” (Luke 4:4).
• Breakthrough Journaling: Write what the Holy Ghost reveals—convictions, visions, Scriptures. This builds discipline and tracks your growth in Christ.
• End with Thanksgiving and Obedience: Break the fast gradually, but immediately obey what God spoke. Walk in the new level of power!
My book, Are You Fasting or Just Not Eating?, is your essential guide through this journey. It digs deep into the biblical patterns, the dangers of empty religion, and the explosive power available when we align fully with the Holy Ghost. This is no ordinary teaching—it is a prophetic manual for victorious living in these end times. Get your Kindle edition or paperback book today and let it transform your walk:

I wrote Are You Fasting or Just Not Eating? because many believers have been taught to fast, but not always taught why fasting matters.
This book was written to help you understand the biblical purpose, power, and practice of fasting.
Fasting is not spiritual dieting.
Fasting is not religious punishment.
Fasting is not trying to impress people with how long you can go without food.
Fasting is surrender.
Fasting is alignment.
Fasting is appetite under assignment.
Fasting is when the spirit says to the body, “You are not in charge today.”
Jesus said, “When thou fastest…” That means fasting belongs in the life of the believer.
This book will help you ask the deeper question:
Am I fasting, or am I just not eating?

The Main Question
Are you fasting… or just not eating?
That question is not meant to condemn you. It is meant to awaken you.
Biblical fasting is not just the absence of food. It is the presence of purpose. It is when the believer intentionally turns down the voice of appetite so the heart can hear the voice of God more clearly.
A person can skip meals and still feed anger.
A person can avoid food and still feast on pride.
A person can deny the body and still refuse to surrender the will.
True fasting says:
“Lord, I want You more than I want what wants me.”
Jesus said:
Matthew 6:17–18 KJV
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
The goal is not just to miss a meal.
The goal is to meet God.
What God is Showing Me…
Fasting without surrender is hunger. Fasting with surrender becomes holiness.
You can be hungry and still not be fasting. You can skip breakfast, miss lunch, count the hours, feel weak in your body… and still never tu

Book overview
Are You Fasting… or Just Not Eating?
Many believers have tried fasting.
But few truly understand what the Bible teaches about it.
Is fasting simply going without food?
Or is something deeper happening?
In Are You Fasting or Just Not Eating? Dr. Gary L. Cordon, Sr., explores the biblical meaning of fasting from Genesis to the ministry of Jesus and the early church. Through clear teaching and careful examination of Scripture, this book reveals how fasting restores spiritual clarity, strengthens obedience, and realigns the believer with God’s purpose.
Inside this book you will discover:
• The origin of appetite and temptation in the Garden of Eden
• How the three appetites—flesh, eyes, and pride—shape human temptation
• Why Jesus fasted before beginning His ministry
• The difference between religious fasting and transformational fasting
• How fasting contributes to spiritual purification and sanctification
• Practical guidance for approaching fasting with wisdom and discernment
This book challenges readers to move beyond superficial religious practices and rediscover fasting as a discipline that renews the heart and restores spiritual focus.
Because the most important question is not how long you can go without food.
The question is:
Are you fasting… or are you just not eating?
