I feel like religion made irreparable damage in my vision of men. I grew up Muslim and I was told from a very young age some crazy stuff by scholars. I think I was like 11 when an imam was teaching us that a woman refusing sex to her husband will be cursed by angels all the night, and that a woman must always obey her husband even if he tells her to not leave the house. I started seeing marital life as slavery and rape. Also they were teaching us that men could have 4 wives, and in the branch I was born into (the Maliki school in Sunni Islam) he doesn’t even need his first wife’s permission. In the afterlife, men get 72 full breasted eternally virgin female companions. I couldn’t understand how I was supposed to build my life and love someone who would fantasize about this after death brothel. Even though my family wasn’t the most strict Muslim family, all those facts made me see men as perverse and lustful creatures (romantically, in relationships) so I decided that I would never marry because I was still Muslim at that time. Marriage and having children is really important to muslims though, but in the end I left Islam after discovering even more weird disgusting facts.
