“Oh, that Imp!” she all but shrieks and whips her head up the hill towards the camp.

Quicker than I’ve ever moved in my life, I dart down under the stone wall.

“Fangs,” Karlach says, voice dripping with warning, “what did you do?”

“Why does everyone always assume it was me?” I mockingly pout.

“Rev, thank you for the contract,” Ellana calls, voice getting closer, “because I’m going to kill him!”

“You know what,” I say even as I begin to half crawl in the direction of mine and Gales tents — and the dark safety of the forest beyond, “I’m suddenly feeling a bit peckish for a squirrel. Nostalgia cravings hit at odd times, don’t you know. Ta!”
