Feedback from a professional - Maela
For the videos from the first concept (blogpost at 10-01-’17) I made a storyboard based on the research I did (about storyboards). There is a scene where we ask people how many banknotes they have, them someone doesn’t have a bank note with him, we ask persons the question: “Do you know where the nearest ATM is?” People answering the question and after that we show a animation with al the ATM’s in Utrecht.
I got feedback on this storyboard from Ruben Huis in ‘t Veld. He works as a freelance video maker at NS. I explained the concept to him and he said that he liked it. Although he can’t say is this concept will work because he is only specialized in video, so he can only give feedback on the video part.
About the storyboard:
The idea for the video is clear. He understands that we ask a question and random people on the street are answering them.
The things that are not clear for him are the way we want to film. Is it only a medium close up? Or a two shot? It is not clear for him how we want to film because there is no information below the shots. This is necessary for people to understand your storyboard. Another tip is to use arrows in the shot if we want to move something. In our case we can do this at the part where people show their wallet.
Another tip from Ruben is to just download a storyboard template instead of sketching it yourself. In this way it looks much more consistent. He also said to keep the shot between the lines, because that is what you are going to film. Also sketching the storyboard with a fineliner or marker makes it more clear and it looks more professional.
About the test videos:
I showed Ruben the videos we made at school. (blogpost from 15-12-’16 and 22-12-’16) He said it is clear for what we want to show but for the real video we have to stick to the storyboard and pay attention to the background.
That was all the feedback i’ve got from Ruben. I think we can really do something with this feedback. I think he is right about the storyboard. It can be more clear if I write down information about what we want to film and what kind of shot it is.
Last week we made some changes in our concept for the video part. We decided to not ask people the question: “How many banknotes do you have?” Because this could also be understood as negative for the client. As you could see in our previous blogpost from 11-01-’17, you see the changes we made.
With the feedback from Ruben I’m going to make a new storyboard.
