His lie was not well thought out and sloppy at best, but at least it seemed to have worked. To be honest, he actually had no idea what science was—the most he knew on the subject was that it was taught in schools in the human world… where magic seemed to not exist. He shook his head slightly. “Not really, science wasn’t ever my strong point, so I have to read everything in this book over and over again before I start to understand anything.”
As for the replacement…
“No, it’s fine. It’s a bit expensive, so I don’t think you’d have the money for it—and even if you did, you would probably live in poverty for the next two years after paying it off, so it’s best that you leave it alone… alright? You honestly don’t have to worry so much over this…”
“Oh...? W-Well, even so...the fact that you can understand it at all is still really something...!”
B-ka was fairly confident that he’d never be able to fully comprehend that level of science himself, whether he read a textbook fifty times over or not. He didn’t consider himself especially talented in the arts either, but...he oftentimes had a much easier time with them, at the very least. Calculations were just so easy to jumble up, and so tricky to correct--
“Oh... O-Okay...”
--much like this situation, come to think of it. Was he becoming more of a bother the more he fretted...?
“I-If you say so...um...”
The stranger had said (repeatedly) that it was all right, but at the very least he had to--
“Thank you...for not getting mad, though... I-I’m clumsy, so sometimes other people get a little...impatient...”
