βWhatβs the point of living?β I ask, as I stand on the edge of a sail boat. The choppy waves are grey and bleak. The sky above is thundery and angry, the clouds cry as they watch trees wither on a crumbling island - a lone decrepit building stands with no windows, the debris of a former life lies in charcoal rubble. Graffiti scrawls across itβs once beautiful walls, every paint stroke reveals the raw heartbreak itsβ artist felt. A little old woman sits on a broken rocking chair as she waits for the husband that was never to return.
βBecause youβre only seeing one side of the picture.β a voice says.
βYouβre only seeing the bad in the world,β
I almost scoff. "Look.β
I turn to see a multicoloured spectacle in the sky, the amber sun kisses the cotton candy clouds as she says her farewell and disappears behind the landscapes of stunning greenery. Birds swoop and soar, leaving lavender marks, their feathers paintbrushes illustrating the air. Darkness sets in, but Iβm not afraid, for the moon sets a silvery glow across the midnight lake. Fireflies orbit like tiny lanterns, then embed themselves into the velvety navy sky. An elderly couple dance to serenading guitars. A husband that returned. The cherry blossom trees sway merrily in the breeze. Serenity washes over me, like a rebirth of the soul. The world seems full of hope, love and beauty.
My eyes were blinded by the stinging sadness that resides in my stomach, the world was hazed in a blue hue that restricted my vision. I may not feel beautiful, but being alive in this world sure does. Being among all these living things, these pretty peonies and opulent oriental lilies that bloom and blossom. Opening up new possibilities, new experiences, new life. Iβm almost sad when the moon bids itsβ goodbye, but the cycle must continue. The world is to keep on spinning.
