Abra - Spends 18 hours of the day sleeping. Even while asleep, Abra can control its psychic powers—should danger approach, the Pokémon will simply teleport away.

Bibarel - It makes its nest by damming streams with bark and mud. It is known as an industrious worker.

Tangrowth - It ensnares prey by extending arms made of vines. Losing arms to predators does not trouble it. Its vines grow so profusely that, in the warm season, you can't even see its eyes.

Raticate - It whittles its constantly growing fangs by gnawing on hard things. It can chew apart cinder walls.

Dedenne - Its whiskers serve as antennas. By sending and receiving electrical waves, it can communicate with others over vast distances.

Appletun - Its body is covered in sweet nectar, and the skin on its back is especially yummy. Children used to have it as a snack.

Snubbull - Although it looks frightening, it is actually kind and affectionate. It is very popular among women.

Phantump - These Pokémon are created when spirits possess rotten tree stumps. They prefer to live in abandoned forests. According to legend, medicine to cure any illness can be made by plucking the green leaves on its head, brewing them, and boiling down the liquid.

Dreepy - If this weak Pokémon is by itself, a mere child could defeat it. But if Dreepy has friends to help it train, it can evolve and become much stronger.

Plusle - Plusle always acts as a cheerleader for its partners. Whenever a teammate puts out a good effort in battle, this Pokémon shorts out its body to create the crackling noises of sparks to show its joy.

(Shiny) Gardevoir - It unleashes psychokinetic energy at full power when protecting a Trainer it has bonded closely with.

Drifblim - It can generate and release gas within its body. That’s how it can control the altitude of its drift. Some say this Pokémon is a collection of souls burdened with regrets, silently drifting through the dusk.

Musharna - It drowses and dreams all the time. It's best to leave it be if it's just woken up, as it's a terrible grump when freshly roused from sleep. The mist emanating from their foreheads is packed with the dreams of people and Pokémon.

Xurkitree - One of the mysterious life-forms known as Ultra Beasts. Astonishing electric shocks emanate from its entire body, according to witnesses. Although it’s alien to this world and a danger here, it’s apparently a common organism in the world where it normally lives.

Stakataka - When stone walls started moving and attacking, the brute’s true identity was this mysterious life-form, which brings to mind an Ultra Beast.

Poipole - An Ultra Beast that lives in a different world, it cackles wildly as it sprays its opponents with poison from the needles on its head. This Ultra Beast is well enough liked to be chosen as a first partner in its own world.

Mew - It's very intelligent and can use an incredible variety of moves. Many believe that all other Pokémon are descendants of this one.

Smeargle - Smeargle marks the boundaries of its territory using a body fluid that leaks out from the tip of its tail. Over 5,000 different marks left by this Pokémon have been found.

Porygon - A manmade Pokémon that came about as a result of research. It is programmed with only basic motions.

Clefairy - It can be found in quiet mountain areas on a full moon’s night. Its dancing and its tiny, faintly glowing wings confer upon it a lovely fairylike quality. With its magical and cute appeal, it has many admirers. It is rare and found only in certain areas.

Banette - Resentment at being cast off made it spring into being. Some say that treating it well will satisfy it, and it will once more become a stuffed toy.

Dragonite - It's a kindhearted Pokémon. If it spots a drowning person or Pokémon, Dragonite simply must help them. Incur the wrath of this normally calm Pokémon at your peril, because it will smash everything to smithereens before it's satisfied.

k so. his is a shorter version of the original ramble i had typed up but for those unfamiliar with pokemon (hi, thanks for hanging around even when you dont know what im talking about) the pokemon darkrai is one of those “misjudged angsty” type cast pokemon. its a dark type whose presence induces nightmare, but its stated in the pokedex that this is a defense mechanism. in most of the mainline games it minds its own business, and even when it does make antagonistic appearances, its usually being manipulated by the REAL villain (pokemon ranger: shadows of almia), actually just lonely (pokepark 2: wonders beyond), or its intentions have been mistaken (pokemon: the rise of darkrai). its generally shown to be either benign or outright benevolent.

when i make teams i try my best to stick to canon precedent, so i have to really justify it to myself to put darkrai on a villains team, but we do actually have two outright villain roles for it that im aware of (and ive played a lot of spinoffs in my day).

the first was a minor anime appearance (this is a different darkrai than RoD darkrai, yes there are multiple darkrai. this sometimes happens with mythicals and legendaries, we’ve even seen a baby lugia in the anime despite nearly all legendaries and mythicals being unable to breed). it was causing nightmares to??? be a dick i guess???

the other is pokemon mystery dungeon: explorers of time/darkness/sky (play this play pmd:eos play iiiiiiiiitttt).

(spoilers) in those, darkrai is the very final post game story boss, revealed to be the big mastermind behind everything that occured throughout the games main story, despite never being foreshadowed or mentioned. he just shows up in the players dream and tells them to kill themself (yes, REALLY). darkrai as a villain isnt smth im a fan of, even excluding the hellish cresselia escort it takes just to fight the goddamn bastard, but it can work if you try to convince me. pmd:eos does not.

given darkrai is unable to NOT cause nightmares, the most common thread ive seen is that its basically lashing out due to isolation (a veil of lies is such a good fic go read it on ao3 if you like pmd fanfics its ongoing and long and juicy hnnngngnggg).

ANYWAYS all that said darkrai was a choice i waffled on for a while when it came to bill because the conceptual idea of a pokemon that enters and manipulates dreams to inflict horrific nightmares is one that matches but darkrais most common depiction DOESNT.

and then i went oh wait everybody is always stigmatizing darkrai in canon for causing nightmares. its like the weird kid who starts hanging out with Actual Criminals because it finally gets to feel cool. thats my feeling on darkrai on that team.

Furfrou - Trimming its fluffy fur not only makes it more elegant but also increases the swiftness of its movements. There was an era when aristocrats would compete to see who could trim their Furfrou’s fur into the most exquisite style.

Tsareena - A Pokémon known for the beauty of its well-shaped legs, it sometimes appears as a mascot in advertisements for beauty salons. Its long, striking legs aren’t just for show but to be used to kick with skill. In victory, it shows off by kicking the defeated, laughing boisterously.

Florges - Though usually compassionate, Florges will hunt down anyone who vandalizes its flower garden, showing no mercy even if they beg for their lives.

Meowstic - Females are a bit more selfish and aggressive than males. If they don't get what they want, they will torment you with their psychic abilities. If it doesn't hold back when it unleashes its psychic power, it can tear apart a tanker. Its unfriendliness is part of its charm.

Tatsugiri - Tatsugiri is an extremely cunning Pokémon. It feigns weakness to lure in prey, then orders its partner to attack.

Mawile - A cunning and terrifying Pokémon, its cuteness makes opponents let down their guard—and then it swallows them whole with its huge jaws. It has an extremely vicious disposition. It grips prey in its two sets of jaws and tears them apart with raw power.
