We're almost done with this short Round 1 already, but before we reach the last match, the elders of the Indigo and Paldea Leagues must go face to face!

The stern matriarch of the Indigo League is Agatha, the Ghost type user! Alongside her wicked Gengar, she crushes the dreams of many young trainers looking to become Kanto's champion. One of the oldest known trainers in the series, Agatha has quite the history, having grown up alongside Professor Oak- once rivals, but her opinion of him turned bitter when he stopped battling to develop the Pokédex. Despite her Ghost type specialty, Agatha actually more commonly uses the Poison type, due to the rarity of Ghost types in her home games. In fact, she's only ever been depicted with two Pokémon that aren't Poison type in her main series appearances- and only in rematches in remakes of the original games. But Agatha's Japanese name references the chrysanthemum flower, a flower associated with death in some European countries, so the Ghost type is clearly a more fitting pick! Despite the type confusion, she's a tough old crone, and shares a lot of similarities with another Elite Four member we'll be seeing later- Bertha. Perhaps a familial connection? But before she could ever get the chance to face Bertha in battle, she's first got to win this match!

The sweet man who ran away from his obligation to become the next leader of his family (and presumably continue its lineage) to pursue the arts? Classic gay backstory.

And then ending up becoming very close with another artist who he calls an affectionate nickname and "dear" even at work, in front of the class?
