On this blog, we run Pokémon themed tournaments in all sorts of categories, trying to find tumblr's favourites!
Partially inspired by some polls on my personal blog but also inspired by the hard work from @ultimatepokemontournament!
I try to comprehensively tag everything on the blog, with all tags used at the bottom of this post for easy browsing. Special note to #stats breakdown, where at the end of each tournament I summarise all the key data for those interested in a deep dive into the competition!

Current Tournament:
Best Mega Evolution Tournament!

Propaganda Guidlines:
If you want your propaganda shared on the blog, please add it to the main text of the post, or send it to the ask box. Tags will not be shared.
Generally, propaganda against one competitor rather than for another won't be shared, don't disparage other people's tastes!
~~
We also have weekly Little Cup Polls, made by me and also submitted by you! If you want to submit a poll, you can do so via asks or the submission box while following these guidelines:
It must be a Pokémon related question.
The question and answers you want must be clearly included in the submission.
No more than 11 answer options.
No mean-spirited questions, we value everyone's Pokémon tastes here!
And keep it family friendly please!
The mod also reserves the right to veto a question if it's deemed necessary.

Another set of newer Megas duke it out for a place in next Round!
Eelektross, a Pokémon that has no weakness, gets a kinda gross power up when it mega evolves! The mega evolution energy that flows through its body causes it to secrete an electrified mucus that coats the back of its body and its arms, with the arms taking on a shape similar to its pre-evolution, Eelektrik. This mucus allows it to generate and then discharge 10 times the amount of electric energy that it could before, making it far more deadly! But that's not all Mega Eelektross is good for- while the mucus melts away after mega evolution ends, apparently some people freeze and preserve it for use in beauty regimens and strength training... but it's not clear if that's really an effective use for it. Do you think Canari, Mega Eelektross' most famous trainer, uses the mucus for that?
Mega Baxcalibur is a fearsome beast, and one of the strongest Ice types to ever exist! Upon mega evolution, the sail on its back takes on a blade like shape, extending through its chest too, and forming a hilt-like shape that it can fire beams of ice energy from. It can also generate far more ice energy than before too, with a lot of it being necessary to stabilise its centre of gravity and support the giant blade on its back! Despite the great size and weight of said blade, Mega Baxcalibur also has enhanced reaction speed and muscle agility, able to perform quick, explosive movements. And backed up an absolutely monstrous 175 Attack, I'd watch out! It has the highest Attack of any Ice type Pokémon, and is tied with the fused Kyurem forms for the highest base stat total of any Ice type too. As the latest pseudo-Legendary to gain a Mega form, it can certainly hold its own. If not just out of terror, will it be getting your vote?
A lot of what was said about Mega Latias also applies to Mega Latios- the difference being that Latios is larger and even faster than his counterpart. Also capable of Mach 4 speeds, its regarded as one of the fastest Pokémon alive, and is one of the best fighters when it comes to aerial combat! Players of Omega Ruby were gifted the more offensive of the Eon duo, as Mega Latios helped them soar through the skies of Hoenn. With a Special Attack of 160, and all but its HP stat at or above 100, its easy to see why this Pokémon is feared in battle. For those of you that were helped in your journey through the Hoenn region by this fearsome beast, has that experience together earned it a vote?
Well, we've already met Mewtwo's fearsome physical form- this is Mewtwo's potent Psychic type abilities honed to special attacking perfection. Mega Mewtwo Y is the smaller and lighter of Mewtwo's Megas, but don't be fooled by that small size! Like Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y is tied for the highest base stat total of any obtainable Pokémon, and even more than that- Mega Mewtwo Y's 194 Special Attack is the highest stat of any kind for a Psychic type Pokémon. Capable of destroying buildings with a mere thought, you do not want to mess with Mewtwo Y- but even with its Special Attack being so strong, you want to avoid its physical moves too, as its Attack is still a ridiculous 150! Mega Mewtwo Y is also notable for this tournament in particular, with it being the first Mega ever shown to the public- before we even knew what mega evolution was! Being very special for multiple reasons, is it also special enough to you to earn your support?
When Totodile was announced as one of the starters for Legends Z-A, it seemed inevitable that Mega Feraligatr was on its way! And it's definitely a memorable one, with its dorsal fin growing into a massive hood that resembles the head of a Totodile. The hood works for both offense and defense, since it's tough enough to withstand incoming attacks, and Mega Feraligatr can use it- combined with the spikes on its arms- to form a massive jaw, one with 10 times the bite strength of its real one! And that bite strength contributes to Mega Feraligatr's massive 160 Attack stat, tied with Hero Form Palafin for the strongest Attack of a Water type Pokémon. In fact, over half of its 100 bonus stat points from mega evolution go directly into its Attack. This beast is made for fighting! And as a new form of a beloved starter Pokémon, it's bound to have some extra love and goodwill that may be necessary in this tough competition.
As a Pokémon introduced in Generation 9, Glimmora didn't have to wait too long for an even more powerful new form! Mega Glimmora is indeed powerful as well, with the highest Special Attack of any non-Legendary or Mythical Rock type Pokémon at 150! Boosted by its Adaptability ability- potentially a reference to how Terastalisation boosts STAB if Terastalising into one of your original types- Mega Glimmora has some of the most threatening Poison and Rock type attacks around. Filled with mega evolution energy, Glimmora's outer petal break away and encircle the Pokémon, providing more protection and allowing it to spread its poisonous debris over a larger area, so stay well back! Maybe don't give it a hug, but perhaps you'll be giving it your vote?
Two Gen 5 Pokémon who got some love from the recent release of Legends Z-A and its DLC are now going up against one another!
Mega Scrafty is a tough fighter for sure! Upon mega evolving, Scrafty's skin pales, becoming more resilient, like a strong outer armour. It covers its head and back with its hoodie-like skin, then adopts an imposing stance, ready for battle. In Legends Z-A, Mega Scrafty was most commonly seen as the ace Pokémon of Naveen, whose own style matches the Mega very well! Interestingly, of the 100 base stat points Scrafty gains upon mega evolving, almost half of them go to its defenses, making it a tough, tanky Pokémon- moreso than it already was! A beloved Pokémon with a sense of style, does it earn your vote?
On the other side is Mega Golurk! Also hailing from Unova, this Pokémon has been held together by the seal that contains its unstable energy- but not any more! Mega evolution has powered it up to the point where its seal can't contain it any longer, and Mega Golurk is now constantly on the precipice of detonating. With 35 more points in its Attack stat, that 159 Attack makes the threat of explosion all the more frightening! Mega Golurk's only weakness is how slow it is- not even the move Protect can fully stop it, with its ability allowing it to break through and do 25% of damage anyway! This form sees Golurk reaching beyond the potential its ancient creators could envision for it, and now it's become a very scary battlefield threat. Has that earned a vote in its favour?

It's been a few months now since Pokémon Winds and Waves were officially revealed, and hopefully you've all had some time for your opinions on that reveal trailer to settle!
With very little known about these games so far, it's hard to make a decision on which to play- but some people already know! Sometimes the initial information on the game is all you need to make a choice, and I want to know how people feel about their version pick while we're still a year out from the games.
So let us know which version you're thinking of choosing and why! With plenty of version differences still unknown, I'm certainly curious.

Can you believe we're not even halfway done with this Round yet? We'd better keep the Megas coming!
Scovillain has always been a unique Pokémon, and Mega Scovillain only turns the dial up on that! With an almost unique Fire and Grass type, it's fitting that Mega Scovillain also has a unique ability, spreading burns to every Pokémon that attacks it- it's just that spicy! In battle, it swings around its necktie-like pepper to whack its opponents, and that's clearly an effective strategy, with Mega Scovillain having a very strong 138 in both of its attacking stats! The peppers that make up its head get bigger and more rugged, now adorned with spikes and spines, and the tongues inside both heads get too big to fit! I hope you like a bit of spice, because Mega Scovillain has it in spades- and that's what'll earn it some votes!
And next up we have a Pokémon that was the only Unovan Mega Evolution for over a decade- it's Mega Audino! An unusual Mega, in that it's not especially strong in its attacking stats, and it's not very aggressive either! But it is very cute, good natured, and tanky for sure. Mega Audino gains the Fairy type, and a heck of a lot of Defense and Special Defense! In fact, the 126 Defense it has is the highest of all Normal type Pokémon, with a good 103 base HP too. While Mega Audino may not be the best in battle, it does gain abilities that make it invaluable all the same. Mega Audino can release pulses of energy that reduce hostility in those around it, and just one touch of the feelers that have sprouted from its neck will send anyone into a deep sleep. Perhaps a role in medicine and care would be perfect for such a kind and soothing Pokémon. Can you appreciate a Mega that's not all about battle?
It's another type mirror match, with two fierce Electric type fighters in each corner!
For a long time, it felt like Raichu was overshadowed by its more famous pre-evolution. But now with two new Megas, Raichu will be firmly placed in the spotlight! Mega Raichu X is the physical of the two Mega Raichu, with a strong 135 Attack and enhanced defenses, it's ready to brawl. As of writing, it was only just announced that Mega Raichu X is also capable of creating Electric Terrain just by entering battle! This boosts the strength of Raichu's already powerful Electric moves by 30%, making it a force to be reckoned with. In fact, its twin tails can generate enough electrical power to float, and propel Mega Raichu X through the air- generating 50 million volts from its tails and ears as it does so. Can this beloved Pokémon take its new form through to another Round?
Well, Mega Raichu X may be strong, but Mega Zeraora is said to be the strongest Electric type Pokémon- and it's not hard to see why. When it mega evolves, its stats are just absurd- with its already blistering Speed getting a boost, and both its attacking stats getting 45 extra points! This puts it at 157 Attack, 147 Special Attack, and 153 Speed. That's the highest Attack of all Electric types, and the highest Speed of any Mega in the game! It stores energy equivalent to 10 lightning bolts inside its body, and all of this is possible thanks to the mega evolution energy removing an internal limiter to its electric power. There's no doubt in a contest of strength, Mega Zeraora would win against its opponent here- but this is a contest of popularity! How does it fare when this is the metric of victory?

Little Cup Polls: Week #76 (Day-to-Day Soundtrack)
An aspect of the Pokémon series that we don't often talk about on this blog is the soundtracks! Despite any flaws that people may have with any game in the series, there has never been a bad soundtrack, and we all know it!
But do you listen to that music outside the context of the games? How many of you have a playlist of Pokémon music you listen to daily? And how many of you don't listen to music from the games unless you're playing them? Let us know, and also tell us some of your favourite tracks in the replies too!

So we ended up taking an extended break from this series while the Best Mega Tournament got started, but we're back!
And here's a quick look at who's in our box as a refresher- including our most recent hatch of Tawny the Rockruff! Both Pokémon and nickname were submitted by @haveyouusedthispokemon.
Heading out from Porto Marinada, our destination is to the east, Medali. That's where the site of our next gym battle will be!
There aren't too many trainers hanging out on this trail, but we do get to pass through one of the Ten Wonders of Paldea- the Colonnade Hollow. It's where huge parts of the rock face have worn away, leaving space beneath for Pokémon to live and flourish.
A few battles later and a little further down the road though, and we come to Medali. In the distance looms the snowy mountains we'll be making our way to a little later on, but for now let's focus on the task at hand!
We head into the gym, and who should follow us in, but Nemona!
She's her usual excitable self, and wants to battle us. We all knew this was coming! But she needs time to pick out her team, so tells us that we should finish our gym battle first. Before that though, the test!
This time round, we have to order a special food item? That means gathering clues from other trainers that they'll share if we beat them in a battle! Pretty simple stuff.
Well, the first trainer goes smoothly, but the second battle...
And it's goodbye to a very shiny, treasured friend. I had so much faith in Silver Star's defensive ability that I didn't even consider a move like Counter that would bypass it altogether! I'm very sad to see them go, they've been so strong, but that's the way of the nuzlocke. Thank you Silver Star.
But we do end up getting enough clues, and figure out the special order- a medium portion of fried rice balls, extra crispy and with a dash of lemon! That opens up the battle court in the very restaurant we ordered in, and it's time to fight.
Silver Star was going to be a main player in this fight, but in their absence we go with this team. And so, as the long suffering office worker- Larry- gets up and joins us on the battle court, it's time to earn our fifth Gym Badge!
He leads with Komala, and we start with Claret. It's no match for us, as two Earthquakes do the job and it misses a Slam!
Larry's second team member is Dudunsparce, and this one is a little scarier. It Glares Claret, paralysing him and slowing him down. But we chip it down too, and by the time Claret is low enough that a critical hit would mean death, Dudunsparce is also very low. We switch in Ash, who's immune to its Normal move, and finish it off with Aqua Jet! One more to go.
In comes Staraptor, and this thing's scary. Knowing I need to be careful against it, I start by switching in Coffee and going for Yawn. Between an Aerial Ace and a Facade though, Coffee takes a lot of damage, and I have to switch them out. Back in comes Ash on a Normal move, as the big bird goes to sleep! Then I bring in Cobalt, who I think can handle it now.
Staraptor stays asleep as we set up a Rock Polish, now faster than it. We fire off Acid Spray, doing about 20%, but more importantly, lowering its Special Defense by two stages! Staraptor keeps snoring. And then, for one last move, Cobalt Terastalises to boost its Rock moves, and fires off a huge Ancient Power- winning us the badge!
Back in the gym building itself, we're greeted by another familiar face- Geeta, La Primera herself!
Apparently Rika has been singing our praises, and she wanted to see for herself. We seem to have gotten her approval though after that gym battle, and she's impressed!
Nemona explains that Geeta is called La Primera because she's the number one ranked trainer in all Paldea- the top champion. No pressure then!
But now Nemona wants to battle, and Geeta's watching too! With no time to switch out team members, we get started.
This battle is a lot simpler than against Larry, thankfully! Claret takes down Lycanroc with ease, as does Coffee with both Goomy and Pawmo. Nemona's starter has now evolved into Meowscarada, but it just can't do much against Pink's defensive power, and falls quickly!
And that battle provides enough experience for Cobalt to evolve! We now have a Glimmora, and Geeta was there to witness it- rather fitting if you know her.
Nemona thanks us for the battle, enthusiastic as always, and says she knows we're going to reach Champion rank too, and become her equal and true rival. After she departs, Geeta comments on how she sees Nemona's absolute faith in us. It's all rather sweet.
But now we're finally left to our own devices, and we have an egg to hatch for the first time in a month! Fittingly, we may have lost one Pokémon submitted by @zigdirty today, but we're hatching another.
It's Eevee! Another duplicate, but a very different sort of duplicate with so much potential! This Eevee doesn't have its hidden ability like Coffee did, but it does have two egg moves in Yawn and Wish! With a neutral nature, this Eevee really does have the potential to become anything, but I have some thoughts already. What do you think? And don't forget to submit name suggestions too! What colour should we name our Eevee?
But that's all for now! Apologies for the delay on this one, it's been a busy time both on the blog and in my day to day life, but I promise the next part will be here before too long! Thank you all so much for reading, and I'll see you there.
Can you believe we're not even halfway done with this Round yet? We'd better keep the Megas coming!

As we pass over the one quarter mark of this first Round, we're faced with a battle of two very powerful Special Attackers!
Alakazam, one of the strongest Pokémon of the original 151, gained a very powerful Mega Evolution indeed! With 175 Special Attack, it holds the 6th highest out of any Pokémon- and the highest when discounting Legendaries and Mythicals. And not just that, its blistering Speed of 150 puts it at a joint 9th overall, making Mega Alakazam a very efficient Special sweeper in battle! In exchange, all of Mega Alakazam's muscle is lost, becoming psychic power, leading to it levitating everywhere. With the red organ on its head, it also can see the future with great accuracy- every move missed against this Pokémon is a result of that precognition. In fact, its ability to see the future is so great, that just a glance can tell it the course of an entire life! I don't want to know mine though, thanks- I'd be content with just the outcome of this match!
Only slightly behind in Special attack- at joint 20th- Mega Drampa is another force to be reckoned with! In fact, it has the highest Special Attack of all Normal types, and while it lacks the speed of Mega Alakazam, it instead has far tougher defenses! The mega evolution energy flowing through its body allows Drampa to regain some of its youth, and even allows it to summon storms from its constantly floating position. And its moveset reflects that- Mega Drampa is able to fire off elemental attacks of all kinds, taking advantage of rainstorms, snowstorms, great heat, and using them to break through all opponents with ease! Mega Drampa's full rage has come out in this form, the wrath of a usually gentle Pokémon! I'd watch out if I were you, but will it be getting many votes?
It's the fourth type mirror match of the tournament so far, with the Fire type being the one on display here!
The dog from hell itself, it's Mega Houndoom! A fan favourite from Generation 2 given a tougher new form, this Mega evolves with the Houndoomite, an item with the index number 666. It's safe to say that the hellish theme only intensifies with the energy powering its mega form! The body of Mega Houndoom radiates with intense heat, and its claws turn red with an almost melting heat that even causes the Pokémon pain. It then channels this fiery energy into flaming breath that turns its foes to charcoal! Everything about this Pokémon is full of furious power, and it's a fitting evolution on a beloved Pokémon. Does that earn it a vote?
Well, a newer fiery Mega is in the way, and it's Mega Pyroar! Coming from Legends Z-A, Mega Pyroar is a newer addition to the Mega collection, and has a few rather interesting points! For one, regular Pyroar is a Pokémon with distinct gender differences- ones that disappear when mega evolving, as both male and female Pyroar take on the form you see above. The distinctly different manes become a mix of both, grander even than the mane of the king of the pride- and referencing the kanji for fire. In this form, Mega Pyroar's already devastating flamethrower goes from a heat of 6,000 degrees Celsius, to 10,000! You don't want to stand in the way of that! When it comes to its battle prowess though, Mega Pyroar is a little interesting with the way its 100 bonus stat points are distributed. Where most Pokémon will have their stronger stats be the focus of the bonus power, Pyroar gains an even 20 points in every stat that can be altered by mega evolution. In a sense, its a very balanced fighter! Distinct in many ways, can the feline in this cat and dog battle come out ahead?
