The orololi are essentially magic alien space dragons with hot-blooded attitudes and mad science that use kaiju as weapons.
Orololi start life in shell-less frog-like eggs. The eggs hatch into tadpoles. The tadpoles metamorphize into hard-shelled pupas. From the pupas emerge sub-adult orololi who grow into adult orololi after molting a few times.
On their homeworld orololi were historically mid-sized terrestrial and semi-aquatic predators. Due to their life cycle the heart of their territory contains a body of water and a tunnel system. The tunnel system contains a mix of flooded and dry passages and dens that the orololi in the area live in.
Orololi are facultative carnivores. The bulk of their diet comes from prey captured that comes to their pools to drink and the local equivalents of fish and amphibians.
The pools that orololi breed in/live around are also traditionally used for aquaculture. Raising food critters and plants alongside their larva (which are also occasionally eaten).
Orololi are sexually trimorphic.
-> Add'ya- Smallest sex. Sperm producing. Bipedial. A tendency towards small hind limbs/feet, very large arms and hands, and narrow faces.
-> Mull'ya- middle sized sex. Nonbreeding or produces very small clutches of smaller-sized eggs. Can become the null'ya sex under certain conditions. Bipedal. A tendency towards large hind legs and feet, small arms, and broad faces.
-> Null'ya- largest sex. Egg producing. Quadrupedal (primarily). A tendency towards equal-sized arms and legs.
Depending on the pool, orololi traditionally recognize between three and eight genders. Tho due to the colonization of their homeworld and more conservative voices holding sway, belief in only three to five genders has become common in the Deep Blue Empire most aliens encounter the orololi through.
Orololi spawn in pools like frogs after some courtship between a group of three or more adults.
A pool is traditionally ruled by a null'ya. To start a pool a null'ya moves as far away from their birth pool as they can manage until they find a new water source. The null'ya digs a den at the pool. Then the null'ya raids nearby pools for mull'ya and add'ya spouces. If the pool is good and they're treated well, the kidnapped mull'ya and add'ya stay at the pool.
Orololi can naturally draw on and concentrate the magic that flows through the universe and channel it into elemental powers. There were traditionally three common elements known historically (Water, Fire, and Earth) believed to be representative of the three primary sexual morphs. Every individual has an affinity towards one element.
Two more elements (Air and Lightning) were mentioned as being exceedingly rare and popping up primarily only in myths and legends. Due to the forced breeding and eugenics forced upon them by the Indrim Empire that colonized their homeworld, the Air and Lightning, became more common in the species.
Orololi science and technology is magic based. Through the use of runes and intricate spells they can command magic to do more complex things.
One of their branches of magi-tech involves spell weaving and bioengineering their larvae with the genes of non-orololi creatures to produce size-shifting bond monsters referred to as 'drakaiju' by humans.
Anatomy/Physiology tidbits
Orololi have a special scale on their chest that is a very sensitive node connected to their nervous system. If that reverse scale is damaged it could lead to nerve problems, chronic pain, and even paralysis and death.
Orololi have honey-like sweet yellow blood.
The 'horns'/'spikes' on orololi are their ears. Those structures are not as sharp as they look and have soft jelly filled cores that the shape of can be altered by the muscles around the cores in the horns/spikes. The horns on the head are also used in making facial expressions.
Orololi have three eyes. Their eyes are covered by protective transparent skin. They can retract their eyes to protect them from damage. Their eyelids brush against the outer layer of skin on their eyes to clean it and are also used in facial expressions.
Orololi store fat first in their tails and then in their belly and hips.
Orololi have two gill slits on either side of their throat that often meet along the front of the throat. They breathe through their gills. Their gills have a thick slime that keeps them moist even if they've left the water for hours.
Orololi skin is covered in metallic scales. Those with heritage from the far north can also grow feathers/fuzz.
Most orololi pools and mega-pools operate on a 'might makes right' mentality.
Orololi leadership tends towards 'bigger/older = in charge/more dominant' traditionally. But not every company or pool adheres to this in the modern era.
Add'ya are traditionally pool caretakers/farmers and not expected to engage in combat.
Mull'ya traditionally were expected to patrol territories and work together to hunt large prey on land.
Null'ya traditionally were expected to defend pools and add'ya from raiders and predators.
Add'ya and null'ya are often found in the magi-science fields while mull'ya tend to be found doing construction and military jobs.
It's not uncommon for mull'ya and null'ya to look down on add'ya as the weakest and smallest sex.
Orololi do not view their larvae as people but as a sacred animal that is to be looked after like other livestock and held to a certain standard of special care. Undersized larvae are harvested and eaten during certain feast days.
Orololi consider their reverse scale to be the seat of their soul and what makes them people. Their larva are not people because they don't have a reverse scale or any other observable seat of the soul. Orololi believe that the seat of the soul for Indrim is the horn on the head of members of that species that houses their psychic organs. Orololi have yet to discover a physical seat of the soul on humans and thus do not truly consider humans to be people.
Most twins happen at the pupating stage with the developing sub-adult inside the pupa splitting into two or more individuals, typically of different sexes. Twins are considered to be bad luck by more superstitious orololi. Orololi that only partly twin, typically emerging as multiheaded or multifaced individuals, that survive into full adulthood are considered to have extremely good luck.
Orololi consider the practice of taking prisoners, kidnapping for anything other than marriage, to be something that only perverts do. They look down on other species for taking prisoners.
Orololi have a nudity taboo. They believe that their reverse scale should be covered when in public and away from the den chambers of their pool. Orololi clothing typically covers the front of the chest at minimum.
