you encounter a lair. . .

Imagine lying in bed on a hot summer night, struggling to fall asleep as a gentle breeze drifts through your open window. Just as your eyes begin to close, you hear the faint rattle of something behind you.

Turning over, you see your F/O climbing through the window.

They slowly approach your bedside and lean down, gently brushing your cheek with the tips of their fingers as you lie frozen beneath them. Their expression sits somewhere between tender adoration and unsettling obsession.

“Awh… did you leave the window open for me?” they ask softly, watching the fear spread across your face. “How sweet of you…”

Is that a lot of its issues can be traced back to being written for Morgana's benefit and not her own.

Kayle's lore really doesn't stand on its own as a cohesive narrative/characterization. Lot of examples

Kayle and Morgana aren't "two sides of the same coin" in terms of views on Justice. Kayle believes that everyone should be treated equally under the law and with proportional punishments to their crimes. Morgana believes the exact same goddamn thing except she allows herself some X% ability to adjust for "context" whenever she feels like it. The two don't have any obvious way in which they "complete" the other (which was an explicit goal stated by their original writer).

Multiple times in both their lores the explicit intent when the two conflict it's never "there is a genuine difference in opinion that drives the two to fight" rather it's always "Kayle is just ignorant about something and proceeds to hold it against Morgana because she refuses to engage in context". Because the lore explicitly wants Morgana's "you need to adjust your perceptions for context" to be the "right" point-of-view so Kayle isn't actually given a real worldview on-par with Morgana. Kayle is only given a worldview that exists just to make Morg's seem more correct via contrast.

The two of their biographies/backstories end at the same point as a "mirror" to each other, but their respective character arcs in their backstories don't actually end at the same place. Morgana comes into her own as the character we know after the fight with Kayle and the death of their father leading to her realizing that these celestial powers are more of a burden than a blessing. But Kayle doesn't likewise have the same endpoint. After the fight she just takes off to Targon and then... nothing. That's where the backstory/biography just kind of ends. But Kayle's ascension up Targon is something we need to see. That's where Kayle becomes the Kayle in the status quo. Not at the moment of her father's death like Morgana, but after climbing/flying up Targon and receiving, assumedly, some kind of clarity/absolution/motivation/etc. that closes her character into line with where she needs to be. So, while Morg gets a complete, and cohesive "endpoint" for her backstory, Kayle's is left completely dangling because it had to end at the same time that Morg's did. They very obviously wrote Morgana's lore first and then worked Kayle around it like a glorified NPC.
