"Hey Mom, take a picture of me with Jack!" This is the only way I'm able to take pictures of our boys together. Jack🐘died at 4 hrs old, seven years before we got the amazing shock of our lives, Jiraiya🐉. Elephants are our symbol for Jack, so when we see an elephant we all think of Jack instantly! You should see our elephant collection at home! 💙🐘 We've always grieved and parented Jack openly, he's a part of our daily lives. Jiraiya has grown up always knowing about his big brother. Around 7, he fully understood our profound loss and he started to grieve his brother. Seeing his friends play with their siblings and he can't, was immensely painful. Every playdate became a constant reminder of his loneliness and loss that it changed his mood from excited to depressed and angry on the drive there. By 8, he needed someone other than us to help him process his big feelings so we put him in play therapy and it was the absolute best experience ever! He not only learned ways to process his grief, but coping skills for life! He's also got ADHD and suffers with co-morbidities: anxiety and depression. He learned tools to help work through his anxiety and other symptoms of ADHD. He battled and conquered huge fears and monsters! We couldn't be more proud of our Beautiful Dragon!🐉 We believe our choice to openly parent and grieve Jack and not keep him a secret from Jiraiya, was the more healthy choice for us all. As much guilt as we feel, seeing our child in tears, desperate to be with his brother so they can play, I'd do it the same again! Dropping the bomb on him, later in life, would absolutely have caused him more trauma. Let alone forcing us to keep this HUGE part of our lives a secret. Grieving in the dark or worse, stuffing it down to eat us from the inside out wouldn't allow us to truly live. I feel for older generations and religious members who are still forced to grieve at the funeral and move on as if nothing happened, bc they hold this belief that they'll be reunited at death. I don't care what you believe, but bereaved parents cannot MOVE ON. We have to work through our grief and it cycles! We never stop grieving them, as grief is love. You guys, electric bikes are freaking AWESOME! After Saturday's bike ride with our friends, I really WANT/NEED ONE for my birthday! They're so damn fun! There's no way I would've been able to keep up on my bike today since I'm still recovering from surgery. But I just needed to peddle occasionally and it just goes!
