Manhattan melee. | HAMMER Mission- Avengers + Hulk
Eros sat on the rooftop of the Tower much as he had the night heâd spoken to Steve about joining with H.A.M.M.E.R., except this time in uniform. Heâd had to fix it â his molecular manipulation skills were quite poor, but he was still able to do some tailoring with them. Some Eternals could completely change their outfit in the blink of an eye. Funny that heâd never developed that skill given his lifestyle â then again he wasnât too big on hiding who he was: his âsuperhero costumeâ was simply a Titanian outfit, the one designated to him when he came of age and was linked with his obvious avatar, the fox.
Unlike then, tonight was warm, but he still sat with his arms wrapped around his knees as he looked over the horizon. Things werenât the same as they were a few weeks ago, though they werenât any more or less complicated, but after talking to Sam and Genis, and the frustrating fight with Betsy, the alien felt less confident in his decisions. But heâd have to stick with the choices heâd made, even if it meant having to convince otherwise hesitant friends in order to ⌠save them from the wrath of their own government.
He was mid-sigh when he felt a buzzing â emergency comm from the earpiece in his pocket, and he immediately put it on, hearing Shae calmly explain a very bad situation and who was up for it. The Hulk was rampaging. Rampaging â not about to, not just that Bruce had transformed. Oh, Bruce ⌠why, why, why? Bruce was one of the most powerful humans in existence, having pretty much contained about half of the entire Chitauri fleet that had gotten past the cosmic portal. Eros had wanted to try to convince him to join, but Bruce had been impossible to find. And now here he was, rampaging in the streets of New York like how he had tried so hard not to, proving the citizenry right about him. Or at least it seemed that way.
Eros wondered what had made Bruce lose control.
The empath had managed to use his powers in the past to subdue the Hulk without violence, but it had taken a lot out of him and the Big Guy hadnât been too mad at the time. Still, he knew that his abilities and their success in the past meant that he had to go. Now, as opposed to then, Eros could not promise that Bruce wouldnât be locked up in that cell made just for him. That had been a large part of how heâd stopped the Hulk before â that he could honestly say Bruce would be safe, free, and trusted. But H.A.M.M.E.R. was not as forgiving as S.H.I.E.L.D. â and Bruce was ⌠he was no longer an Avenger. Â
âStarfox here. Iâll be onsite in few seconds,â he answered as he leapt off of the roof and bolted in the sky with a glowing blue trail behind him indicating heâd bolstered his graviton manipulation with cosmic power. True to his word, he was there almost instantly: Eternals were fast, and Eros was one of the fastest Eternals. âGood thing I wasnât part of the race,â he joked to Dragonfly and Iron Man, very glad to be the first one so that he could observe what was happening before anyone instantly became violent.
Besides the Hulk, of course. Heâd seen Banner Hulk out, but heâd never seen anything like this. âJust want you two to know, Iâve managed to calm him down before â but Iâm not sure that heâll respond the sameâshit, weâre gonna have to do damage control,â he said as he darted to catch a lamppost that went flying through the air with a deafening roar, his nonchalance obviously gone based on the fact that he actually swore.Â
Heâd lost sight of Daken. That was the foremost thought on The Hulkâs mind as he made his way through the streets, still seeking out the mutant that had disappeared into the night almost as soon as the green beast had made its appearance. But that was alright. It was forgivable. Nearly, anyways. Somehow, the scientist had managed to retain some control over his counterpart during the change, and theyâd been able to pursue the mutant for a few blocksâŚ. Then the police had shown up, and had immediately opened fire. That was when Bannerâs grip had slipped entirely, and The Hulk had decided that the best way to make people leave him alone was to start throwing cars.
His arm continued to ache, rapidly healing due to the Hulkâs curious genetic makeup, but blood still dripped down his shoulder from where Dakenâs claws had ripped through Bruceâs muscle and bone. His left arm swung rather limply by his side, though the fingers twitched occasionally, like the massive legs of a bug, not quite dead yet, and simply itching for the moment when it had gathered enough strength to move properly.
There was a sudden flash of light as Eros landed not too far away, and with an irritated roar, The Hulk snatched up a nearby lamppost and threw it in the Eternalâs general direction. He recognized the Titan instantly, and instinctively knew that more would be on the way. He took a thundering step towards Eros, sending more civilians and police alike scrambling to get out of his path, and, reaching out with his right hand, picked up an abandoned SUV. He hurled the vehicle at Eros with a roar, and reached out again for something else to throw. He would not let this little strange man get anywhere near enough for his powers to take effect. He would not be calmed. He would find Daken and rip him in half, and if that meant he had to crush the little flying pest to do it, then so be it.
In the radio silence between coordinates and communication Tony was able to think, to try to plan. All he could do is think of what he had been briefed on, how could he let things get like this? And what had happened to Bruce to make himâŚwellâŚlose it? Where did he go from here? Alexâs voice came through the noise, the mechanic shook his head and answered her in a playful tone as if he hadnât been thinking so deeply at all; âDoubt it.âÂ
His body leaned to the left, threading between buildings, flying was effortless now. There was a constant sound like the streamline of an airplane and the HUD zeroed in on the route. Although it wasnât very hard to tell where the Hulk had already been. The streets looked like they had been driven up, rubble piled where there should have been sidewalk. Cars perched on top of the caches and light posts were hung up in telephone wires or otherwise about to topple.
Amid all of it was the big green guy and another Avenger that the engineer recognized as the Titan. What was his name? Er-âŚ.It was kind of difficult to remember things, having your brained toyed with like a harddrive. But Tony could associate him with memories of trying to save the Titanâs world. From the looks of the car flying through the air, Hulk seemed to have the upper hand.Â
He almost wished that he hadnât beat Dragonfly here first. When he could remember fighting the other guyâs outbursts, it had always ended badly for Bruce. The only resolution they could find was to lock him up in a cage. Tony didnât agree with it, though it was usually the first thing he proposedâŚthere was just no other way to resolve it. The Hulk wasnât exactly the easiest to talk to, and it was impossible to convince him to be docile.Â
Iron Man wasnât exactly equipped for extreme violence either. However he did rush past Eros to intercept the mid-size SUV headed straight for him. The weight of it shook his armor and he met it with enough force to make a good sized dent. Even if the Titian could have fought it off, he liked to make an entrance.Â
Agent Wileyâs voice cut through Steveâs train of thought like a knife. All thoughts of doubt and guilt pushed to the back of his mind as Steve straightened up from polishing his shield, listening intently. This was something he could understand. This didnât require clever manipulation, or espionage. This was a mission with a clear objective, and Steve was going to see it through to the end.
Steve strapped his shield onto his back as he left the room, walking with a purpose. There was no time to contemplate why Bruce had lost control, and no time to argue the ethics. The Hulk was a danger to everyone in his path. His tone was commanding and firm as he pressed his earpiece to radio in after his teammates. âCaptain America here. ETA 10 minutes. Tony, Eros, hold the perimeter until Dragonfly and I arrive. Keeping civilians safe is top priority right now. Keep the Hulk as contained as possible.â The captain nodded to the HAMMER agents in the company garage as he swung his leg over the leather seat of his custom Harley-Davidson. The real deal Captain America bike. Coulson had personally had it refurbished and returned to him. On the cue of the agents, Steve revved the engine, and hurtled out of the garage onto the street,Â
The trail of wreckage was easy to follow, he hardly needed to consult Wileyâs coordinates,This was bad. Steve screeched to a halt beside the remaining NYPD forces. âSir, you need to focus your men on evacuating the area, and keeping civilians clear of the fight. Shooting at him will only make things worse.â Although the Avengerâs public image was somewhat pathetic, when Captain America tells you something, you do it. The police chief instantly began issuing orders, and Steve was on the scene within minutes, dodging a Sedan as it crashed onto the asphalt. Tires squealing, he slammed on  the breaks, and leaped backwards off the bike, letting it crash on its side and skid to a halt a good 20 feet away.
Steve landed with a thud, and jumped to his feet, watching a lamp post fly past Eros. âAvengers we are on the defensive, making him angrier is the last thing we want. We need to Central Park, and keep him there. It wonât be crowded at this time of day, and thereâs less potential collateral damage. Weâre on the defensive here team, we need to get Eros close enough to calm him down, and diffuse the situation!â
.
Genis woke screaming tormented by the nightmares that now followed him into the real world. Images flashing into his mind of screaming, destruction, hundreds dead and so so much green. He pulled himself out of the damp mess of sheets that heâd been sleeping in grabbing the first hooded top he could find to throw onto himself. Heâd felt this a million times before, it was his cosmic awareness warning him of some great tragedy about to happen. He knew what he had to do, as much as it brought him agonising pain, Genis had to focus on the visions trying desperately to find something in it that he could use as a reference point, then he would know where to go.Â
The Chrystler building, Genis could see it in the skyline beyond the destruction. It was in New York, that was good the hero didnât have to travel far and  he could get there fast. Saturn worried when she saw her master climb down into the living room holding a hand to the side of his head and groaning like he was suffering from a bullet wound. That was exactly what it felt like at times, a bullet lodged in the back of his head and as much as he tried to pull it out or drink away the pain, it always hurt.Â
He knew what he had to do though and that was stop whatever was about to happen, only having to think about it and his costume was on, he flew up out of the skylight and then with a boom and crackle he roared off in the direction of the destruction.Â
Nightmares can come true, he thought when he got there, whatever had caused the destruction was already far away from where it had started so Genis got to looking for a trail of destruction, he found one and followed it. Not before screaming at a group of officers who stood in the middle of thee street speechless and looking without hope. âWhat the hell are you doing standing there, get to the civilians you idiots!âÂ
Erosâs being there didnât surprise him, how he got there first did, but then again Genis had gone back to check on civilians before finding the jolly-green-giant, there was another with him, then another in Red,White and Blue join them. He felt a little simple in his black and white number, should I go back to Captain Marvel, but that question was for another day. Right now he had to take out the monster. If the fellow Eternal wasnât there he would have just charged at the creature guns a blazinâ, but he trusted Eros instinct and flew up alongside his uncle.Â
"So itâs all on you, Uncle" he jokes, stationing beside him while he listened to Red,White and Blue. Wait âŚ. that was âŚ. no it couldnât be. Captain America! No, Genis, be cool, lives in danger, millions in property damage, gotta be cool gotta be cool. But, holy fuck, itâs Captain America.Â
It didn't take her long to arrive, her flying abilities were one thing she was glad she got from her demented father. She zoomed past a lamppost that was headed directly for her head. She wasn't sure if the would be able to contain the Hulk. Something had made him this angry, something had tormented the Hulk. That much was evident. It wasn't like Bruce to lose control for no reason, not after working so hard.Â
Her voice radioed in through the other Avengers' earpieces. "Captain, what is your location? Things are pretty bad here." She needed to find a way to distract the Hulk, some way to get him to not pay attention to Eros. That was their last hope for getting this under control. "Anyone have any ideas for a distraction plan?" Another flying object soared through the air and she caught it, making sure it didn't hit the cars below.Â
Most of the remaining team had shown up. Herself, Tony, Eros, Genis. All they needed was a leader. And their leader had better show up soon. Captain America was the best at tactical planning and they all knew it.Â
