Well isn't this great

Okay so when we were kids, my cousins and I during one summer visit were prank calling everyone we knew. Our favourite, and the best reaction we ever got, was Cat Facts calling my mom.

See, my one cousin (we'll call her K) had found a website with pre-recorded ones, it gave us a set number of calls we could make in a day. This meant we didn't have to worry about giggling, and it wouldn't show our number in the caller ID, it was great.

Anyway it goes on about like, thank you for signing up for CAT FACTS, here is your fact of the day, to cancel your subscription say stop. "STOP," goes mom. It starts going in a bit of a loop of "To stop, say CANCEL. We didn't quite get that. To stop, say CANCEL." And mom did it all, she was SO enunciated and it was really very funny.

Cherry on top was it going "To cancel, answer your security question. What is your favourite animal?" "....Cat?" goes mom. "That is incorrect. Your favourite animal is: The Walrus." It was the funniest fucking shit. When we tried it on dad he just hung up within a minute, but mom got ALL the way through. I love her 💜

SO. Fast forward YEARS, and it's my birthday. I'm informed to answer my phone even if it's an unknown number, for Unspecified Reasons, by my grandmother.

Sure enough, a call comes.

"THANKS for signing up for CAT FACTS!!!!"

It was the best birthday present ever. I can't believe the site is still up. I hadn't thought about it in years.

one of my favorite things that's happened during my playthrough of Subnautica 2 so far:

this fish, the Marrowbreach, is labelled to be (and upon basic observation, appears to be) very dangerous and aggressive and scary, so a lot of the time spent interacting them is specifically spent avoiding, or trying to escape them. they have a very specific, telegraphed attack where they launch towards the player in a super scary way.

however. i noticed that despite their scary appearance and loud growling noise, they don't actually do much damage when they attack you. and so i thought to myself "am i categorizing this unfamiliar social activity as aggression? am i being reductive towards how this creature actually operates? am i sure it's not just playing with me?"
