Oh? Another construct? You look strong! Are you sentient, like the other one? Your core is definitely damaged… is it supposed to be leaking ice?
- @dragon-artificer
Error twitters in confirmation. For all it knows, when it woke up its core was just like this.
You don’t know? Hmm… I’ll have to look into it. You all are rather interesting.
What’s your name?
Ah! I found you!
A large orc in scaled armor trundles up to the runesmith.
I saw you make a… special time, earlier. The one that’s orange and pink. I was wanting to ask you, what do you intend to use it for?
- @dragon-artificer
"...have you ever heard the term 'yuri'?"
Hmm, no. What does it mean?
She wordlessly passes him a rune she's dubbed "Webin", which has access to the internet basically. The holographic view is open to a page on Yuri.
"Read."
Oh. Well, uh… make sure she has an autonomous housing before you… that. One that wasn’t made by you. Can’t very well get consent if her behavior is changed, and you cant verify that her behavior hasn’t been affected by your magiks.
I wouldn’t like to have to mete out law here, while I’m adventuring.

Ironclad, I've been informed that you have... a cursed relic on you.As someone who is partly in charge of it, may I see it to try and free you of it? I know it can get quiet... irritating // you'd be a fool if you think He didn't try them on at least once //
@ask-the-servant
He nods, and hands Serv the Dateviators without a second of hesitation.
“Way…Defect…looked…”
*The Servant takes dateviators in hands and started chanting something. After a few minutes he examines the glasses again* This could do... Not sure if it worked... I'd break them to test, but my Master advised me not to try it, they want the relic to stay intact.
*With these words, Servant just decided to leave, with glasses in hands, hoping that he did break the curse and they are no longer bound to Ironclad*
He sighs in relief, finding that the glasses haven’t appeared in his pockets, and slumps against the wall. Freedom.
One problem however.
“Sooo…what am I supposed to do?”
“…FUUUUUUUUUU-”
If you could just sit veeerry still for just one second…
The Shadowlancer’s voice emanates from all of the shadows in the room. When the curse looks around, she lunges out of the shadows, attempting to Run Through the woman. Unfortunately, she phases right through her.
Dammit! I thought that would work!
She’s wearing goggles made of gold, with blue lenses. The scale-pattern carvings in the metal indicate that they were made by the Wyrmmaker.
She sinks back into the shadows and disappears.
"Oi, who's the pink one?"
Nihil had recruited Runesmith to help, and she could see Skylar just fine without googles.
You can see curse spirits?!
I need you on my team immediately.
She hasn’t left the shadows. Seems she doesn’t want to be seen.
"Hell you talkin bout? That's a Machine Spirit. Here, lemme do this."
She produces an odd looking rune, and hands it to Skylar. As soon as the lady takes it, she's absorbed into the rune, which turns Lesbian Flag colors.
"Mine now."
Runesmith picks up the rune, and pockets it.
What. The Fuck.
Wait don’t walk away I need that back.
"Nope! Dibs!"
She walks off, whistling a jaunty tune.
Wow @ancientblogjimbojames look a new, bigger problem.
“Hm? Oh no she’s fine. The spirit doesn’t have much power when separated from its original object.”
If I may input my opinion…
(How is he so stealthy?)
I believe she intends to use her power to make the spirit more powerful. What other use does she have for it?
“Good luck with that if that is her goal. From what I remember, Skylar is basically just a guide to how the Dateviators work.”
So the “dateviators” power is separate entirely from the curse it functions on? How does that work?

Oh Architect Destroy Us.
She recognizes those glasses. They’re supposed to be in Nihil’s vault. Cursed relics such as this definitely shouldn’t be wandering about in the spire.
…Clad. I need you to give me those. Right now.
@the-shadowlancer
“Can’t. Bound…to…me.”
As if to prove his point, he snaps them in two, then tosses them away. A minute later, he reaches into his pocket, pulling out the fully intact Dateviators.
Shit. @ancientblogjimbojames NIHIL! WE HAVE A PROBLEM!
“I AM AWARE! I AM WORKING ON IT!”
Is there anything I can do to help you work on it faster?
“GET THE FUCKING RUNESMITH!”
You need my help?
I assume your current. State means you don't necessarily need to eat but can you? If so how? A friend of mine says you eat anything that succumbs to doom but I don't think that's right
That… that would imply I would want to eat the things I find in the spire. I don’t even think most of them are even edible.
I can consume things, but it’s less like eating in the traditional sense, and more like fueling the flame in my head. I can put things like potions or food in my mouth yes, but I can also put it through my neck, nose, mouth, or even just on top of my head
Clad doesn’t particularly seem to care how edible the screaming bug constructs are.
Then again, Clad.
Looks up from eating an Axebot.
“Hm?”
Doesn’t that hurt? You’re eating metal!
Thats why we call him an Ironclad, he is made of iron!
I… don’t think that’s true, little magician.
A massive orc wearing golden dragon scale armor sits at the rest site when the dragon enters. He is oblivious to the dragon’s presence; working on one of the Chassis for his armor. This one is light, and has wings akin to a dragonfly’s affixed to its back.
Dragonfly Chassis+ — Uncommon — Power — 1 energy
Gain 2 addition plating from all sources. You may not play any cards with Fuse that cost more than 2 energy.
A finely honed mind, not content to rest on the laurels of his natural abilities. Driven to hone and improve where others would stagnate. A singleminded focus. Yes, this @dragon-artificer - this one will thrive in the next Nest she creates.
His goals may be unknown. But that only means that he'll need the right impetus. A Dragon knows when to be patient.
"GOING UP?"
The Dragon's voice isn't quiet - it never is. But there's no hostility in it as she finishes the plans for a new Nest. A den of scum and villainy, but one where anything can be found - for the right price, of course.
Desert Nest+ — Uncommon — Power — 0 Energy. When you end your turn with excess Energy, gain 4 6 Temp. Strength next turn.
He jumps.
Ah! A dragon?
…you scared me! Your stealth is impressive! Are you here to rest?
Her scales are pitch black… is this the one mother told me about?
"HONESTLY, I PROBABLY SHOULD. THAT LAST UGLY STATUE NEARLY CHIPPED ONE OF MY NAILS," The Dragon says, seemingly polishing some imagined imperfection in her claws.
Paradoxically with mortals, it's often helpful to indebt yourself to them - just a little. After that, they're much more eager to ask for something in return, at which point you have a working business relationship.
It makes sense, The Dragon muses, for them to show such caution. Only the most desperate mortal would actively look for a being that can crush them at a whim, at least before they get to know them. Such investments can also be profitable, of course, but rarely enough to not be counted upon.
"A DRAGON NEVER PASSES UP ON AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GREED. OF COURSE, GREED DOESN'T PAY IF IT KILLS YOU. BUT IF YOU ALSO HAPPEN TO BE HUNTING A CERTAIN ARCHITECT, MY ODDS MIGHT BE A LITTLE MORE FAVORABLE, AND I COULD ALWAYS USE AN UPGRADE."
Is she... offering an alliance?
This isn't the first time she's allowed a mortal to fight alongside her. With this one's intelligence, it might even be worth cultivating some tells in her behavior - cues to signal to him what her next move is, deliberate weaknesses in her combat style that he might exploit... Ah, but she's getting ahead of herself. No point in planning for a betrayal when he hasn't even agreed yet.
"I BELIEVE TOGETHER WE HAVE A SOLID CHANCE TO TAKE DOWN THE VANTOM GUARDING THE ENTRANCE TO THE NEXT LEVEL. WHAT DO YOU SAY?"
I say that it is gloriously fortunate that I have managed to purchase a miniature tent! I have already devoted effort to tuning my armor, and yet I may also both tend to what meager wounds you might have and also tend to my own! It will be glorious to wear down the Vantom’s stacks of slippery so quickly with two of us attacking it.
She’s scheming something — I can see the glint in her blood-red eyes. Quite beautiful, they are. But a true dragon’s schemes change based on what is most beneficial. I will make myself useful to her, and come out on the winning side with even greater treasure than I hoped. After all, there is no use in betraying a dragon.
"FORTUITOUS INDEED! A GOOD OMEN FOR A PROFITABLE PARTNERSHIP IF I HAVE EVER SEEN ONE."
Even the most eager-to-please chick will eventually chafe against the pressure of a crucible. It is inevitable; indeed, a nest that none ever seek to leave has failed to inflame the ambitions of those within it.
As powerful as The Dragon's attacks are, it seems she has trouble pinning down the Vantom with its slippery nature. Perhaps she isn't able to unleash her full might in such an enclosed space. Even so, her sheer presence is a weapon and a shield at once, providing cover from the inky monster's tail and cutting off its retreats with bursts of flame.
Later…

The Wyrmmaker and The Dragon ready themselves as ink sprays everywhere and Vantom wakes. The being roars loudly, but Wyrmmaker’s and especially the Dragon’s are much louder.
Barrage Droid - Common Skill - 2 energy
Assemble 3 an attack in your hand. This droid deals 1 damage a number of times equal to the assembled attack’s damage.
Destroy - Uncommon Attack - 1 energy
Deal 32 damage. Lose 3 strength.
Ratchet Up+ - Uncommon Skill - 0 energy
Give a droid 3 strength and increase its assembly by 2. Exhaust.
That ought to burn down his Slippery gloriously quickly!
The room becomes warm as The Dragon defends itself with wings and scales, letting the Slippery stacks burn out. Waiting for the perfect moment. Observing the Wyrmmaker as he fights, wearing down the inky monster. Leaving her strength in reserve, before...
A barrage of sparks scatter through the battlefield, scorching the Vantom. But The Dragon isn't done yet, as the room becomes unbearably hot -
Between the Vulnerable from her Frightful Presence, the Strength from her Nest, and the Embers gathered throughout the course of the battle, The Dragon's infernal breath leaves little more than sizzling ashes where a boss once stood.
The Dragon takes a moment to breathe in the smoky air, before turning towards her companion. "A FINE PERFORMANCE. I MUST SAY, YOUR METHODS SEEM ALMOST FAMILIAR. MELDING TECHNIQUES TOGETHER, CONSTRUCTING DRONES TO AUTOMATE A PROCESS... I RECALL A CONSTRUCT OF BRONZE THAT USED SIMILAR ABILITIES, BEFORE ITS DOWNFALL."
The Dragon sounds more like she's reminiscing about an old friend, as opposed to a being she'd fought in many lifetimes, before her blood-red eyes focus back onto the Wyrmmaker. "BUT FOR ALL THOSE SIMILARITIES, YOU SEEM TO HAVE A RATHER DIFFERENT STYLE. DOES THE NAME 'MALAMYRIN' MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU?"
It seems like she already has an idea of who could have taught you these things.
My mother, the Grand Artificer of the Golden Wyrms? That Malamyrin?
She has given no mane to me other than “The Dragon”… it becomes more and more likely that she is, indeed, her. Good.
And the bronze construct, would you happen to be speaking of my rouge Bramble Bulwark? I heard that it had come to the spire at one point.
"YES, I THOUGHT I RECOGNIZED HER CLAWMARKS ON YOU. IS THAT WHAT SHE GOES BY NOW? IT IS GOOD TO KNOW SHE'S MADE SOMETHING OF A NAME FOR HERSELF. ERAS THOUGH IT HAS BEEN SINCE SHE LEFT THE NEST, IT SEEMS SOME OF MY LESSONS LEFT A MARK ON HER."
Figures a dragon wouldn't use fingerprints as a metaphor. Though it's not clear whether she means metaphorical marks or literal ones.
"I DO RECALL ANOTHER MACHINE OF THORNY HIDE, BUT THE AUTOMATON I WAS REFERRING TO TENDED TO MAKE HEAVY USE OF HYPER BEAMS..."
The Dragon details a few of her past clashes with the Spire's guardians. Some of them end more embarassingly than others.
Ah, that would be my mother’s bronze automaton. It does fight similarly to me; mother is the one who invented our glorious fighting style, so it makes sense.
Are you implying that you are my grandmother? Mother never told me that part… only how powerful you are, and that she looked up to you.
"NOT BY BLOOD. BUT I THINK WE CAN BOTH AGREE THAT SOME THINGS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN BLOOD."
Yes, this one will thrive indeed. A glorious day it will be when he turns against me, like his mother before him. Not today, of course - yet it will be all too soon.
A curl of flame rises from The Dragon's maw as she gives a wide grin. "ONWARDS, THEN - TO POWER AND GLORY!"
FOR GLORY!!

He jumps.
Ah!

That ought to burn down his Slippery gloriously quickly!
The Wyrmmaker trundles on to the bridge obliviously. His armor is extremely heavy, pulling the bridge right such that it cannot move. He doesn’t seem to notice that it was shaking violently in the storm mere moments earlier. He’s idly humming a dragonchant.

*the winds pick up, to the point that you begin to notice*
Give me a card.
The Wyrmmaker notices the light wind, and starts to move faster. The bridge still can’t move, he weighs about 400 pounds.
*the wind blows harder, but changes directions to face you. The wind becomes so strong that you are unable to progress forwards*
[-3 HP]
Ok, not that one, give me this card instead
*the card displayed is one vital to your current build*
The chassis of Wyrmmaker’s armor morphs from the general-use humanoid form to the high-power Spider Frame endurance mode. He leaps off of the bridge, fast as lighting, and lands clinging to the side of the ravine. He shoots two anchor grapples into the rock at the lip, and tensions them to gain stable footing as the legs of the spider frame dig into the rock to begin climbing up.
[97/122 hp remaining]
Spider Frame - Rare power - 2 energy
All cards with fuse are played an extra time, but cost 1 extra energy
Grapple Cannon - Uncommon attack - 1 energy
Deal 15 damage. The target loses 3 strength.
Well then, I see you’ve chosen.
*the grapple cannon disappears from your deck as the winds stop, allowing you to fully cross*
Curses!
One of the Wyrmmaker’s massive hands snaps out to seize the winch pack. The spider frame digs into the ground at the lip of the ravine to stabilize. The Wyrmmaker sucks in a massive breath…
And sprays ice in a massive area, stabilizing the side of the cliff. Even the bridge, now several meters to the side, is half-frozen in place as he pulls with all his might to snatch the winch pack back from the shadowy hands. The hands are frozen and stiff.
[94/122 Hp remaining]
Frost Breath - Rare Skill - 7 energy
Gain 6 plating and 2 strength. Stun the enemy.
He manages to loosen the winch pack by a hair, and throws a basic punch at the frozen hands-
Strike - Basic Attack - 1 energy
Deal 6 damage
-to pull the Grapple cannon back in an reaffix it to his armor.
Strike removed from deck.
His armor morphs into Dragonfly Chassis, and he flees as quickly as possible.
Dragonfly Chassis - Common Power - 1 energy.
Whenever you gain plating, gain 2 extra plating. You may not play any Fuse cards that cost more than 2 energy.

A construct? Its core looks damaged, and some of thise parts definitely aren’t its originals… maybe I could fix it? But why is it in Neow’s domain?…
-@dragon-artificer
... It can hear him, you know. Well, not that it can communicate that easily. It buzzes and chirps at The Wyrmmaker, waving at him pleasantly. It doesn't mean any harm, and it hasn't seen him around before.
Oh! Are you sentient? How interesting! Is that because of your damaged core?
The Defect nods, making a quiet affirmative beep. As for the second question, it thinks for a moment before nodding. There's a little more nuance to the situation, but there's not much it can do to explain it. Besides, the cracked core was the catalyst for all intents and purposes.
Do you want me to try to fix your core? I believe I could restore it without changing its function…
The Defect shrinks away a little, nervous. Its core is... Basically its everything, literally and figuratively. Tampering with it sounds like a risky proposition. It tries to mime certain creative acts as it chirps inquisitively, not knowing how to ask for credentials otherwise.
Credentials? Do you know of Malamyrin, the Drakon of Artifice? She is my adoptive mother. I learned everything I know from her. Additionally,
*he calls over a droid. It looks like a better version of a fabricator’s defense droid.*
All of my armor and combat droids are made myself, often in the heat of battle.
It tilts its head aside, chirping pensively. At least it knew it could trust him to not break anything on purpose... Whether or not it knew who he was talking about, he could build things and that as what mattered.
After a brief period of consideration, The Defect taps its body and nods, but then puts a hand to its core and shakes its head. Still not comfortable being touched there, it seems.
Ah. Well, I don’t have the materials to both improve your body and have a good climb. If you’re not comfortable with me repairing your core, then there isn’t much I can do at the moment. If you ever feel the urge to let me help, though, I will be glad to.
If you’re up for it, we could do a climb together.
The Defect nods, happy to get to know someone new. If things went well, maybe it would be comfortable enough to let him try?
That would be glorious.
