i like to think about remus and lyall's relationship. i don't really like what this fandom did with lyall; abusive, estranged from his son and wife, absent. i think a lot about how in love he was with hope and how happy he was that when he found out he was going to be a father.
i think about how excited he was, how he spent days and hours decorating remus's room, buying clothes, taking extra shifts at the ministry so he could save money and his son wouldn't have to worry about it. i think about the headache it must have been for him to choose a name with hope, how he wanted to find the perfect one for his baby.
i think about remus's childhood and how he was always there. he taught him to walk, passed on his love of fantasy stories, and his early voice that soon formed complete sentences. lyall adored his son and the mind and love that he possessed.
i think about that fateful day and how, for a time, he believed he had failed. he hated knowing that the chances of his son not having a good future were his fault. he hated himself for that until the last days of his life.
but what he didn't hate was having forced himself to improve, to be there for remus, to never leave him alone. lyall was as present as he could be, helping and accompanying him every month until it was time to let him go.
i think about how worried he was throughout his son's education, wondering if he would make friends, if he could cope with his problem, if it would bring him more trouble.
i think about how relaxed he was as soon as remus came home for christmas that first year, as he told him about three kind-hearted boys who reassured his, knowing his son was in good hands.
lyall loved his son with all his heart; remus was his whole world, and i can't imagine it any other way. i'm sure his last thoughts were a prayer that his son would never forget how loved he was.
