So peaceful Souvenir. A brother singing ancient Andalusian song in Al-hambra palace.
Unmute
The right amount of melancholy
This is one of my most favorite Andalusian muwashahat (an Arabic poem that’s specifically written to be sung). It was written in the 3rd century by an Arab poet from Granada, so it’s not very far fetched that the song has been sung at some point in that very palace centuries ago.
These are the lyrics in Arabic and English, in case anyone’s interested.
When he appeared with a sway in his walk My darling infatuated me with his beauty Oh, my fate and my confusion Who will have mercy on me when I complain Of anguish in love Except for the holder of beauty?
لما بدا يتثنى حبي جماله فتننا وعدي و يا حيرتي من لي رحيم شكوتي فى الحب من لوعتي إلا مليك الجمال

the madagascar hoopoe is one of three hoopoe species (previously considered to be conspecific), and the only hoopoe species endemic to madagascar. like other hoopoes, they have an orange head and chest, and black and white plumage on the wings and tail. they primarily inhabit the edges of forests and glades. they are often quiet, solitary birds, found foraging by themselves or in a pair. their diet consists mainly of insects such as beetles, grasshoppers and flies. the species is monogamous and very territorial, with little social interaction outside of pair bonds.

Jewish paper amulet, Afghanistan, early 20th century
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
This ferrofluid audio-visualizer created by artist Dakd Jung dances to the music.

Hi, its me. The warmest creature in the world. I love you. Im the warmest creature in the world and I love you so much and I need to be in your lap right now. Yes, I know about the heat wave. That's okay though because I was already the warmest creature in the world so I don't mind. I love you and you need to let me sleep in your lap right now. I'm soooo warm and I love you sooo much. If you say no you'll be saying no to a thing that love you. Let me sleep in your lap. When I fall asleep I get warmer. I love you

Pair of silver bracelets from Yemen
Work of Yemenite Jewish silversmiths, early 20th century.
Beautiful blue glass beads from the late Bronze Age. Ploughed up by a farmer in Denmark in 1885, analysis shows the beads were made in Mesopotamia, pointing to long-distance trade in luxury goods some 3,000 years ago. 📷 National Museum of Denmark
