Tenacity’s Enriching Summer Activities for Boston and Worcester Youth
Since 1999, Tenacity has helped over 20,000 Boston youth develop critical academic, social, and athletic skills through its unique blend of educational support and tennis instruction. The organization sponsors programs for elementary, middle school, and college-bound students, working to provide pathways to success for youth from underserved urban communities. When school is not in session, Tenacity provides a healthy outlet for Massachusetts youth with its annual Summer Tennis and Reading Program (STRP). Held in both Boston and Worcester, the program is open to kids aged 6 to 16 and takes place at multiple sites near each city, including more than 20 Boston-area public parks. Striving to enrich students’ minds and bodies during summer vacation, STRP offers free three-hour sessions that combine tennis and fitness instruction with reading and literacy activities.
Volunteer STRP instructors use the QuickStart Tennis format to instill basic tennis skills and a love for the sport in young participants, while older players have the chance to further hone their skills in competitive play. Between its summer programs in Boston and Worcester, Tenacity serves more than 5,000 youth each year.
