I am not immune to medieval knights and my 15+ years of experience drawing horses. I wanted to give him a helmet to full send the whole knighthood vibe. + warmup sketch of what I think bf!nom looks like when he's not actively throwing bricks.

how come i keep drawing Owen being loved? that sulking mans entire story is about being angsty and unloved

yet here he is, getting shipped with like five men so far

because Nom thinks he's proving a point about an oath being flexible or the greater powers being wrong at times, or he's even concerned about owain's devotion to something that's obviously not good for him

but Owain believes this is what the higher powers intended for him, obviously they weren't pleased with his service anymore. and he hates the decree, he hates what the monarch is asking him to do, and he wants to refuse, but he wont. what's worse is how much he hates himself for even considering disobeying the order. he hates himself for hating the orders.

But Owain, after a great deal of hesitance, hands his sword to Nom—who is absolutely shocked that Owain is actually doing it—and slowly reaches up to pull his helmet off.

There is a crowd, everyone from the kingdom is watching. Owain slips his helmet off and holds it at his side. He looks only at Nom, who is filled with regret—he hadn't expected Owain to go this far. nobody was supposed to see this.

Owain is covered in scars, with deep bags under his eyes. His hair is brown, tied up in a tight bun.

Nom keeps his expression hardened, but feels overwhelming remorse.

"What would you have me do next, your majesty?" Owain asks.

Nom looks between the citizens of their kingdom. Some are enamored with Owain, shocked by the very normal human man under the lion, and some are looking back at Nom with a mix of surprise, sadness, and disgust.

"Take a day off, Owain, rest."

Owain stays still, waiting for Nom to elaborate, as if he didn't know how to rest.

"No fighting, no weapons, no armour," Nom says. "Enjoy the kingdom. Sleep."

Owain turns away without another word, avoiding the eyes of the citizens around him.

"Was that necessary, your Highness?" Eloise asks.

"It wasn't meant to be a punishment," Nom says.
