in season 1 near finale langdon was arguing with robby in the ambulance bay. a lot of shouting, a lot of arguing. ended with robby telling langdon how he let everyone down and left. leaving langdon alone and lost. it struck him deeply. because langdon was shown to be well put. he got things figured out. he was the golden boy, he was robby's most valued protege. a senior resident, in his last year of residency. he even got a recommendation letter from robby to apply for a fellowship program. he got family, kids, a wife. and he was thriving as a doctor.

so hearing that from robby himself would probably shook him. and mind you he was in a severe withdrawal. his back probably killing him, he was agitated, nervous, and he prolly thought he can't save his career as a doctor meanwhile he didn't know who he was if he isn't one.

and in season two we saw him making amends, apologizing.. just for mel to say he never let her down. that she was glad that he came back when all morning langdon was dealing with anxiety and rejection. you know people tend to be more sensitive towards their surrounding at that state, so just hearing whispers and catching glances would probably trigger him. mel was robby's antithesis. a living, breathing proof that everything robby said was wrong. and that probably helped him getting his confidence back to work there.

and at the finale we got langdon again. at the very spot, the same ambulance bay. he was lost only for a moment, because after that he saw mel, standing there. watching the fireworks. the difference was so jarring it's insane.

langdon was at the brink of destruction in season 1. and season 2 ended with him finding someone to share the silence. a new beginning, physically, emotionally; from the drugs, from the lost of confidence, from the wound he oh so desperately want to bottle. he found himself again i dare say. as a person AND as a doctor. and once langdon got himself back, his confrontation with robby felt therapeutic. both for him and the audience because langdon, healed and grounded, can actually say what he always wanted to say. now with proof that he can actually change.
