I missed someone who is no longer in my life today after quite awhile of not remembering them. I was making dinner, and their memories flooded my mind in an instant and I had to stop chopping my vegetables as the ache of them no longer in my life or my future constricted my breath. And I couldn’t help but reminisce the times they had stood by my side through my pain, like when my grandmother was hospitalized they took me to Burger King and got me those crowns the server was handing to kids and made me wear it as they wore it too. And how they stood by my side without a word as I cried over the demise of someone I deeply was learning to love. And then came rested their head against me as I retreated too exhausted from pain. And I missed them today, too much that it ached. For the last time we met, we never said goodbye. Because who would have thought, they were meant to pass. I didn’t say goodbye to them, except our last conversation was touch. Their hands in mine as they greeted me. And now I ache for their hands just once more in mine. Today a little more than yesterday.
