1939 film / disney verse: the ruby slippers are an extremely famous and powerful magical object that was created in the land of oz by the four witches of the south, north, east and west during a time of peace. their power can be used for good or evil thus while they are beautiful to behold, while they protect dorothy and help get her home; they can also be used for evil if in the wrong hands so to speak.
harry potter verse: the ruby slippers are a very famous and very powerful magical artifact ( you can even find a few pages sometimes even a chapter about them in wizarding world history books ) that was created by glinda the good, passed down to her descendent dorothy gale. the slippers when not being worn by gale look very aged and worn but the moment they are on her feet they look brand new again. just like her film canon verse, the slippers can be used for either good / protection or evil.
