Sometimes, everything goes wrong...

This week, I had an outbreak of ich in my main aquarium. His aquarium is heated, filtered, I do regular water changes with safe water, added new fish ONLY after a quarantine period... and yet here we are.

6 neon tetras, three catfish, 1 pleco... all dead or on their way out.

I’m devastated. I caught the infection on the first day it appeared, treated it, raised the water temp, used medications... nothing worked. I feel helpless, and my fish are suffering for no reason at all.

The survivors, if I can call them that, are my betta, who has ich but seems to be recovering, my golden algae eater, and my baby ghost Knifefish. I hope I caught this early enough to at least save them, but who knows.

Feeling defeated.

Not my normal post, but please spread this around!! I live fairly close to the fires and I know that is bad and how frightened they are! I lost my house in a fire once and the experience was traumatic. So if you, or someone you know lives in the area of the Paradise, or Malibu fires, please do this or share it if you don’t!

Consider leaving out water for passerbys. It won’t make them stay (the urge to find new territory away from humans is v. strong), but it will help fuel them onward.

If domestic animals wander through, and they are eager to approach you, consider keeping them in your yard and contacting a shelter set up for animal evacuatees from these fires so their people can find them.
