UI DESIGN: SIGN UP form

I subscribed to the Daily UI Challenge this week and this is the first design challenge I receive via email. If you don’t know what it is about and you feel like you need to practice your design skills this is the perfect oportunity: after subscribing you’ll receive each day via email a new design challenge which you should post either on Dribble or Twitter with the hashtag #dailyui. It’s a 100 day challenge so every day you get a new design category, ie: landing page, poster, ckeck out credit card, etc

PERSONAL PROJECT: Game Of Thrones magazine spread.

As a personal project (and practice) I designed a 2 page-spread for one of my favorite film/tv magazines, La Cosa Cine, inspired by their editorial design style and choosing one of their online articles about the last episode of Game Of Thrones season 7 for the content.

I added some extra text of my own where needed and images of S07E07 from different online sources.

DC COMICS: ENCYCLOPEDIA OF CHARACTERS - REDESIGN

As I previously posted here, I designed several pages of an encyclopedia for a class project a few years ago and even though at the time I liked it and did the best I could I believe there is always room for improvement and learning so I decided to redesign the interior of the book as a personal project and will keep updating it as often as I can, not because of the importance of content and text itself but because of the opportunity to practice and improve my skills while designing for a subject I really enjoy.

The web design was built using the following languages:

Javascript

And the tools for its development were: Sublime Text, Xampp & a couple of free javascript libraries that were adapted according to the design.

Someday Never Maybe: logo design

This was a small project for a friend who wanted to turn his blog posts, about his motorcycle trip through the continent, into a book as a guide companion and/or inspiration book for others wanting to venture into traveling on their own. When he mentioned that maybe the title could be made into a logo for the cover I started thinking about designs related to traveling & vintage motorcycle badges and these are some of the ideas I came up with considering that perhaps in the future he might use the logo on merchandise too. PS: in the end our joint project didn't happen but he was able to get his book printed through a company that offers online editorial printing services.

Este fue un pequeño proyecto para un amigo que quería convertir su blog, sobre su viaje en motocicleta a través del continente, en un libro como acompañante o libro de inspiración para otras personas que quisieran aventurarse en un viaje por su cuenta. Cuando él mencionó que tal vez el titulo podría convertirse en un logo para la tapa pensé en diseños relacionados con viajes y las insignias vintage de motos, y éstas fueron algunas de las ideas que surgieron considerando que tal vez en el futuro él pudiera utilizar el logo en merchandising también.

WEB DESIGN: Vikings - class project

This was my project for a Professional Webmaster course, designed in HTML5, CSS3, MySQL, PHP and JAVASCRIPT languages. The subject for the site was of the students’s choice, I decided on a site for a TV show so that I would have text, video and photo material to include. The site is not optimized for responsive design since it was not required for the final presentation of the project.

Este fue el proyecto para el curso intensivo de Professional Webmaster, diseñado utilizando los lenguajes HTML5, CSS3, MySQL, PHP y JAVASCRIPT. El tema del sitio era a elección de cada estudiante, en mi caso decidí que fuese sobre la serie de TV “Vikingos” para tener suficiente material de texto, imágenes y video que incluir. El sitio no está optimizado para diseño responsive ya que no era requerido para la entrega final.

PERSONAL PROJECT: Flyer Design - Vote For Harley!

Personal Project: made in Adobe Photoshop. Having presidential elections in my country in a few days I thought it would be funny to have Harley Quinn as a candidate for President, so I decided to make a campaign poster.

Proyecto personal: hecho en Adobe Photoshop. Con las elecciones presidenciales de mi país a un paso, se me ocurrió que sería gracioso tener a Harley Quinn como candidata a Presidente, así que decidí diseñar un poster con estilo de campaña.

PERSONAL PROJECTS: blendings  and drawing effect in Photoshop

Over the years I learned different techniques in Adobe Photoshop. I first started learning on my own figuring out the use of tools, filters, etc until I found online tutorials on how to achieve different effects or make use of textures. This is one of my favourites: turning real photographs into sketch-like wallpapers using filters, brushes, blending images and textures.

INFOGRAPHIC: Batman and Superman

When I first designed the DC Comics Encyclopedia of Characters as a final project for one of my classes, I didn't have as much time as I would've liked to have for a really thoughtful, careful and professional design; so months after I finished my studies I decided to redesign it, starting with the infographic. This is my 2.0 version of my DC Comics Infographic comparing info about Superman and Batman.

Cuando diseñé por primera vez mi Enciclopedia de Personajes de DC Comics como proyecto final para una de mis clases, no tuve tanto tiempo disponible para realizarla de manera bien pensada y profesional como me hubiese gustado; así que meses después de finalizar mis estudios decidí re-diseñarla, comenzando con la infografía. Esta es mi versión 2.0 de la Infografía de DC Comics comparando información sobre Superman y Batman.

PERSONAL PROJECT: movie poster for Suicide Squad

As the big fan of DC Comics that I am I was really excited when the first Suicide Squad film teaser was released, so as soon as I could get screencaptures I was determined to make a poster. It is quite simple because the variety and number of images available were very limited at the time and also focused on the characters that stood out the most (for me at least): the Joker (biggest and most iconic villain in the comic book world, duh!), Harley Quinn (beautiful but quite dangerous and disturbed) and June Moone (didn’t know anything about Enchantress before the film but the images of the character were very interesting).

ENCICLOPEDIA: proyecto final para la clase de Base Editorial.

This was the final project for my ‘Base Editorial’ class and consisted of designing, printing and presenting, in a hardcover binding, an encyclopedia (theme of the student's choice) of 20 pages minimum and had to include the design of cover & backcover, book-jacket and packaging. I decided on a DC Comics Encyclopedia of Characters and these are a few pictures showcasing my work. 

Este fue el proyecto final para mi clase de ‘Base Editorial’ y consistió en diseñar, imprimir y presentar, encuadernado en tapa dura, una enciclopedia (tema a elección del estudiante) de 20 páginas como mínimo y debía incluir el diseño de la tapa, contratapa, sobrecubiert y packaging.

Decidí realizar una Enciclopedia de personajes de DC Comics y estas son algunas imágenes del trabajo entregado.

LOGOTYPE DESIGN for a famous artist

Logotype -using only font- for a specific real life character assigned for a class project applying research, brainstorming, experimentation and process of sketching. The final presentation of the logotype had to include the following versions: colour, black and white, greyscale and negative. Also I was to present the emerging concepts that support the logo design and the examples of first sketches.

POSTER DESIGN: Surrealist Art Event

The class assignment was to design a poster for an art event about a particular Modernist artistic style, in my case it was the Surrealist movement.

PRINT DESIGN: event flyer in Photoshop and Illustrator

This class project consisted of designing a flyer (front and back) for an artistic event that complied with all the standards for offset print: from adjusting the photos in size, resolution & color format (CMYK), to setting overprint & trapping orders where needed. All marks for print would have to be present in the final work as well (although front and back of the flyer were to be printed on the same side of the page as requested by the teacher). The finished work was also delivered in .ai for evaluation.

PACKAGING DESIGN for an e-book reader

This packaging was part of the class project consisting on designing a logo and brand identity manual for an e-book reader.
