I think it's going to take me 4-5 hours to pack everything, then it will take my dad and I 90 minutes to load the car once he gets here, and then 30 minutes to sweep/wipe down with a clorox (probably just my bedroom and a bit of the bathroom). i'll report back in a few weeks how this pans out lmao

my roommate who is weirdly the only person who paid a security deposit but then only paid half his rent for july and august: hey guys so if some of my security deposit gets withheld we'll all split it right??

I really need to heal my food issues so that my dad and I can do long-distance bike trips together while he is still in shape

#it already sucks that we were unemployed back to back instead of at the same time

so i spontaneously left the city for the beach this weekend and now i'm back and kind of realizing why that was not my original plan. i'm going on vacation starting friday night and i also did not go grocery shopping today and have not started packing at all for moving in less than 3 weeks. the next five business days are going to be a doozy!!

#also i have a 9 hour virtual training at work tomorrow so i can't even go to the grocery store during the day

growing up we did both worm composting and regular composting primarily for the waste diversion, the gardening benefits were very very secondary and every time i talk to someone who is a gardener about composting now i'm like oh man i know absolutely nothing

one of the biggest things I can advocate for (in academia, but also just in life) is to build credibility with yourself. It’s easy to fall into the habit of thinking of yourself as someone who does things last minute or who struggles to start tasks. people will tell you that you just need to build different habits, but I know for me at least the idea of ‘habit’ is sort of abstract and dehumanizing. Credibility is more like ‘I’ve done this before, so I know I can do it, and more importantly I trust myself to do it’. you set an assignment goal for the day and you meet it, and then you feel stronger setting one the next day. You establish a relationship with yourself that’s built on confidence and trust. That in turn starts to erode the barrier of insecurity and perfectionism and makes it easier to start and finish tasks. reframing the narrative as a process of building credibility makes it easier to celebrate each step and recognize how strong your relationship with yourself can become

Was so simultaneously hot and tired at the same time at the beach so I came home and now I’m home and I’m like why am I here I wish I was still at the beach

I jumped in the ocean last night in shorts and a sports bra and you’ll be shocked to hear that my shorts and sports bra did not air dry overnight on the most humid night of the year

Basically the time of year if you have a loved one who works in a school see if you can get them a HEPA air filter for their space and encourage them to open the windows as much as possible. Especially if they work in a small contained space like for special ed or tutoring or counseling or whatever. Ventilation in schools is so important for obviously preventing the spread of illness but also because the build-up of carbon dioxide in poorly ventilated spaces impairs cognition and learning!

My mom just retired as a teacher but in the past few years I was able to get her a HEPA filter for her smallish classroom AND convince her to open the windows even in the dead of New England winter. In the cold months inbetween classes she would open the windows (which weren't even good windows, they were the kind that crank open towards you into the room) for the five minutes of passing period and then typically close them during the period. And from March to the end of the year just have them open constantly. Get that air changed over!

#also she taught 8th grade so this helped air out the smell of middle schoolers as well lol
