personal chatter & vent tag for you to block: #ann talks

Hello there! Please read this first before interacting:
- I have alektorophobia (fear of chickens). If we’re mutuals, please please please tag your real-life (or realistic depictions of) chickens, roosters, hens, and baby chicks. This includes dead chickens and anything that resembles body parts of chickens (wings, feet/claw, and especially the head and beak!)
Of course, I won’t be personally mad at anyone who doesn’t tag their stuff--but I’d really appreciate it if you do! People who tag their chicken stuff have saved me from countless instances of panic attacks and meltdowns.
- In general, my blog is not minor-friendly, but I try to tag everything NSFW, among other things. If you’re a minor who wants to interact and talk about whatever with me, feel free. However,
- Please don’t ask me anything in the TMI category unless we’re mutuals--or you feel like you have a strong reason to. Please don’t ask me anything in the TMI category if you’re on anonymous and/or a minor. Things like discourses about racism, sexuality, sex in general, religion, whathaveyou. It’s probably common sense, but I know there are a lot Tumblr users who will answer whatever questions anons hurl at them--I’m not one of those users. Please, if you’re a stranger, or you like to be anonymous, and/or a minor, don’t ask me a question you wouldn’t ask to a stranger in real life.
- Proper (brief) introductions under the cut!

Hello!
My name is Annisa, born in the ‘98 (my age is... do the math); just your average Indonesian muslim woman chilling in this corner of the internet. People call me /ann-nee-sa/ in real life, but if it’s too hard to pronounce (it’s not) just call me Ann. Demisexual biromantic. Or is it bisexual demiromantic? You decide.
Any pronouns because my language doesn’t use any and the idea of assigning my identity to a set of foreign, gendered pronouns on the Internet when I don’t even need any in real life is... is hella weird. (And if you don’t see me assigning pronouns to any of my OCs, assume that they don’t give a fuck as well. Please don’t take this as a sign that I don’t respect your pronouns. I do, I just can’t wrap my head around ‘em.)
I am not a fandom blog. I like to silent-reblog art and the very occasional memes. I post game screenshots sometimes (Skyrim, The Sims 2 and 4, the very occasional Dragon Age: Origins, Oblivion, and Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines). Used to draw and write a little in the past, but I don’t have the means to scan my drawings anymore and my writings seem to get no notes as of late. I still write in my spare time.
Does that mean I dabble in fandoms.......... not really? Don’t ask me about fandom discourses, or my opinions regarding such. I’ve been burned a few times by TESblr community--not directly, but enough to not make me want to engage further than surface-level video gaming.
That said, if I or my posts get on your nerves, I strongly suggest unfollowing me! It’s healthier than sending death threats or passive-aggressive callout posts!
More random facts: my overly specific interest is languages (ask me about the Indonesian language and I’ll infodump you all about it!), the game Rule of Rose made me cry each time, and Sucker Punch (2011) is the movie I didn’t know would Vibe(TM) with me so hard, but it did. My first foray into vidya gaems is Alice: Madness Returns, where my 7 year old brother did most of the harder battles with the Colossal Ruin enemies. My hobby atm is creating little Skyrim mods.

Please engage more with atheists/agnostics. Especially non American ones. Talk to ex Christians, ex Muslims, ex Jews, ex Hindus, etc.
You will quickly find out that no, in many cases, our parents are not at fault for our criticism/distrust/hatred of religion, although for some, especially American ex Christians, that is the case too. I will not dismiss that.
I agree that religion should not be forced on someone, but reading your take felt no less dismissive than the street preachers that, after I tell them I'm an atheist, ask Have you been disappointed by God?
As if personal experience was the only reason to criticise or even hate a religion.
You're right, anon.
While I have engaged with the people you mentioned above, it's clear to me now that it's not sufficient enough to warrant my personal opinion on the idea.
Also I did say in the post that I wasn't talking about most, or even all atheists. I said that maybe it was a case with two, or three people. Not all of them. Not even most of them. I was not making a blanket assumption that you thought I had made.
I'm sorry if my post discomforts you and many other atheists in this website. I'm sorry if it comes off as me dismissing your personal feeling regarding religion--it wasn't at all my intention, but points are hard to convey through the internet and I did not make it clear enough.
I'll refrain from doing hot takes like that in the future. Have a good day.
Also feel free to block me in the future, if you haven't already.
I feel like there’s a good chunk of millenial/gen-z atheists and agnostics whose hatred of religion stems from their parents, especially neurodivergent atheists
on one hand, it’s like “duh”, but on the other hand I imagine some of them went through something like this: this person has a problem in childhood, their parents don’t want to deal with it, parents instead just force them to “read a Bible” or “this is why you should pray to God more often”. and this situation builds up resentment for both religion and their parents, thinks that “religious” equals “fanatical”, etc.
(and I say *some*, not all of them. not even most of them. but I can bet that story applies to at least more than two people)
and as someone who’s recently rediscovered religion for herself, I feel so, so angry at those parents for shoving down religion at their children’s throats--especially in their darkest times. if my kid is in deep depression, or any kind of emotional or developmental fallout, I’ll make sure they get proper sleep and food and to get through their depression and be there for them all the time, and not like... ask them to read Qur’an?? because obviously they’re not in the right mental space to do it, and if I push them towards religion in times like that, it’ll only build their resentment towards religion in the future.
religion (and, honestly, most other types of life-changing spiritual practices and stuff, things that’ll stick with you for the rest of your life) is not something you can push down the throats of children who are going through a bad time. it needs a good head space and clear mind. you can’t just ask depressed people to “just discover God and He’ll surely lead you down the right path!!”. not only because that kind of advice misses the point of depression entirely, it also wouldn’t work jack shit.
i mean, yeah, there are stories of people who become religious after something bad happened to them in life that made them closer to God or something like that, but it’s not the norm. most religious people I know are actively religious because they have time and energy to devote into their religion. for a lot of neurodivergent people, this is not the case. and also also? those people who discover God after going through a hard time usually do so without the intervention of other people. they’re not pushed by society or their parents. it’s their own free will.
i guess the point i was trying to make was parents who push their children to learn about religion, especially at times when they should prioritize their children’s physical and emotional wellbeing first and foremost, cause more harm than good... and when their children grow up, creates this sort of cynicism and distrust in their heart towards religion--when it’s largely the parents’ fault, and not the religion itself.
