caine wants so badly to be loved and adored to the point where he pushes people away with his eagerness because he’s not thinking about the feelings of others, only himself. he’s selfish. then in that scene of the finale with the moon we find out that he was capable of being loved without forcing people to all along, he just needed to let others love him on their own terms. he needed to let go of control.

meanwhile jax pushed people away purposely because she didn’t think she was capable of love, she listened when people talked about themselves but she used that information against them, to further push them away because she didn’t believe herself capable of love because of her own self-hatred. then it’s shown that even after all the cruelties she inflicted on others there is still a place for her in the circus and she still deserves to be loved and cared for. her hugging pomni back is her finally letting go of her attempts to control how others see her, and opens her up to the possibility of accepting love.
