The Musings of a Glam Girl

I've been friends with this dude for six months and I considered him to be like a brother to me. He's known my bf for like 5 years. We've all been really friendly, joke around often, all that jazz.

The Manic Pixie Dream Girl-ing started around February. He was prompted by one of his friends in our math class to describe his "dream girl." He describes a woman that's smart, funny, caring, great listener, and nerdy. Typical Manic Pixie Dream Girl stuff, right? Well, the problem is, that's exactly how I am. I'm in my school's AIG program and get straight A's. I'm only funny to a select group of people, but this dude laughed at my jokes a lot. I'm deeply empathetic and care deeply about the issues my friends go through. To go along with that, I have great patience for people who tell me difficult things and always lend an ear to those who need it. I don't think the Nerdy part needs any explanation. TLDR: I'm basically this dude's dream girl. In the words of John Mulaney, "pointing this out to him confuses and upsets him." I say that I think of him as a friend and/or brother, nothing else. Keep this in mind.

Over the next few months, we get pretty close. I opened up to him about some of my family issues and some things about my past relationship. He does the same to me. He would sometimes talk to me about his therapy stuff and was generally open about his mental health with me. I was used to this, given that I would often be the one in friend groups that most felt safe opening up to. I think "wow, what a great friend! He's really cool!" Did our interests line up? No, not exactly. Was I more than willing to learn about Warhammer so I could hang out with his group that I thought my boyfriend was a part of? Absolutely. He even invited both my boyfried and I to his graduation party! A lot of other people had brought him cards and things, but I didn't have time to get one. I apologize profusely and he assures me it's fine.

Fast forward to Saturday: I brought up that my boyfriend bought me a really cool McFarlane Nightwing figure for my birthday and sent him a picture. He says "oh that's cool! speaking of, what would you like for your birthday?" I tell him he didn't have to get me anything. However, I said that if he insisted that I would like some of these cheaper things: comic books, gel pens, notebooks, maybe a used vinyl. This guy decides to ask if I'd want a Warhammer model kit. I say yes, not thinking much of it. I tell my boyfriend, thinking it was a bit weird. This guy didn't strike me as the type to go out of his way to get something for someone he'd known for six months. My boyfriend then tells me that this dude doesn't buy gifts for anyone, not even close friends he's known since elementary school. He's only ever bought gifts for girls he likes. They talked about it way before I came into the picture. I then find out that Warhammer model kits are like $70! He also tells me that the Guy is usually a dick to people and isn't really social. I've only known him to be really friendly and cool. Additionally, he also never really opened up about mental health things to people unless he trusted them or cared deeply about them.

Needless to say, my world was shattered. I thought this guy was a great person with a sweet disposition that thought I was cool. Instead, he saw a potential girlfriend, just have to drive a wedge in her current relationship first. I've never felt more betrayed by a friend before. It's a slap in the fucking face. I also don't know what to do because I thought of him as a good friend and wish we still could be friends. I haven't even brought it up to him that I know.

HOLY SHIT HE FINISHED SIXTH AFTER STARTING IN DEAD LAST AND BEING INVOLVED IN THE BIG WRECK!!! WE ARE SOOOOOOO BACK!!!!!!!!!! It looked like he was taking a nap during the red flags, and honestly, same. I'm also very excited to see what his future at Wood Brothers holds for him!

Second: I'm so happy for Austin Hill and all of RCR for the win! To have the inaugural Coranado race be both Austin's first career road course win and the first race RCR has won since Kyle passed is so special. The views there were absolutely stunning! (should mention, usually not a huge fan of Hill, but I'm always glad when someone gets a career first)
