au where Wilmon don't get back together after Christmas, and when the first years go on the camping trip Felice is the odd one out of the girls, and Wille and Simon both step forward to offer to share a tent with her, and they glance at each other awkwardly and Wille mutters that he'll find someone else to share with, but everyone's grouped up and the teacher has moved on. They spend the whole day avoiding each other, which has been their norm this term anyway, but then they're tucked into sleeping bags right next to each other, waiting for Felice to get back so they can turn out the camping lantern, and Wille is just about to leave and go sleep in a tree or something just to get away from Simon when Simon asks, almost as if to the tent at large, "How are you?" They have a brief but earnest conversation for the first time in months, but then Felice comes back, and they turn off the lantern, and Simon and Wille lay facing each other in the darkness, patches of moonlight glinting off their eyes as they gaze at each other. Maybe they wake holding hands in the space between their sleeping bags...

Thinking of all kinds of AUs in which Simon climbs in through Wille's window at Hillerska and stands on his desk, looking down at him. Maybe they've been in a fight and Wille asked him to come to talk but wasn't sure if he would, wasn't sure if things were actually over. Maybe they're not together yet and one of them has finally broached the tension between them and it's the first time they're seeing each other alone. Maybe they've broken up but things are shitty for Simon at home and he needs somewhere to hide and he thinks Wille is in class so he sneaks in the window, but there Wille is, scrambling to stand up, looking at Simon where he's frozen on the desk. Maybe Wille offers Simon a hand to get down. Maybe Simon's chin starts to tremble and he hops down off the desk and immediately into Wille's arms. Maybe Simon crouches, not breaking Wille's gaze, and he tugs Wille closer by the string of his Hillerska hoodie, and Wille's hands slide from Simon's knees along his tensed thighs until he can coax them around his waist, lifting him from the desk as their lips meet...

In the flesh still feels particularly poignant and important to today's society. Its themes of homophobia, discrimination, mental illness, religious extremism, and bigotry are still heartbreaking and rewarding in so many ways. It's just still such a good show.
