As you may know, Tumblr is banning adult content starting December 17, 2018.

Pretty much all of my posts in this blog are getting flagged by Tumblr's bots even though most do not include nudity.

To my Tumblr followers: I still have not decided if I will keep posting the sets in another platform. It is unclear if other websites will follow Tumblr's strategy so a lot is still unknown.

Instagram is also available but as you may know, adult content is not allowed. Additionally, Instagram has and continues to be very difficult to use for NSFW content creators. Shadowbans and account deactivations are a commonplace in IG so the future is very unpredictable there.

Last night I received a message from Tumblr @staff​ @support saying that a video I recently uploaded was removed for violating content policy and that my account may be terminated. In particular, the policy that was allegedly violated was the following:

We don't allow sexually explicit videos to be uploaded to Tumblr.

This is interesting because the video that I posted was not sexually explicit. According to uslegal.com, sexually explicit material is defined as “containing sexual intercourse” or nudity. The video I posted did not feature any of this. It simply had a model wearing a bikini and high heels. 

I understand that most of my content is not for everyone. This is why my blog is flagged as NSFW. Meaning that you won’t be able to see the account unless you confirm that you are an adult. 

Tumblr’s policy does allow NSFW content. I immediately appealed this violation claim but it seems to have gone nowhere since the video is still down and I did not receive a response.

Unfortunately, this comes just a few days after my Instagram account got shadow banned for unknown reasons. This is happening to many artists focused on adult-oriented material. 

I understand that social networks are being more restrictive about content in their sites because of the new government policies. The new laws are well-meaning, but there are big unintended consequences. Adult content creators and artists that follow the law are being unfairly censored and the reach of their work is being limited.

At this point, I just know that it’s a matter of time until all my social network accounts are terminated. Just how many flags/reports will it take? This is really hurting my motivation to create and post new content for this project. Why create if I cannot share my work with the public?
