so you've turned into a worm -
how do your Hatosy character boyfriends react?
POPE CODY:
Pope finds a clean $100 bill from his latest job with his brothers and lays it onto the dresser where youâre squirming around. He kneels down, his eyes wide and sweet and laser focused on your every move. âMy sweet girlâhow did this happen?â You canât answer. You are a worm. Pope tries to brush your worm body onto the surface of the Benjamin, but he knows he canât use his thick fingers without fear of squishing you. âItâs okay, baby. You can do it⌠squirm onto the money. There you go, baby. Good job. Iâm so proud of you.â He carefully raises you into the air and slides you (and the money) into a perfectly washed out jar that used to be filled with peanut butter. Heâs filled it with dirt and grass and pretty rocks; heâs poked holes in the lid so air can fill your little worm lungs. âYouâll be safe here. I love you, baby. Iâm gonna figure this out. Figure out how to get you back.âÂ
TITUS DANFORTH:
âWhere have you gone, my little pet? Hiding from me?â Titus flings the bedsheets in an exaggerated huff. Youâve played his version of âHide N Seekâ before, and he always finds you, giggling somewhere in the room, unable to contain your desire for him to locate you. Because when he discovers you, it always leads to your other favorite game to play with Titusâwhere he devours you in bed, making you writhe in pleasure. Your worm body wriggles across the night stand, hoping Titus will see you and realize itâs you, his little pet. He tosses a pillow across the room in frustration, shattering the glass of water that was occupying the space right next to you. A maid rushes into the room without knocking, âSir?â ââOUT!â. The door slams shut. Titus strides over to where you are and sits on the edge of the bed observing the mess heâs made. âFuckâwhere is she?â He pounds his fists into the mattress and just as heâs about to sweep the glass shards onto the floor, he catches the movement of you desperately trying to get his attention. âNoâI donât believe it⌠it canât be.â It is. Titus places his hand onto the table and you use all of your little worm strength to crawl on his calloused finger. He brings you eye level, careful to not move quickly so you donât fall. âMy little pet. I knew Iâd find you. I always do. It appears we must go see Mr. Le Bail to discuss how to remedy this little predicament.â
JACK ABBOT:Â
Dr. Jack Abbot is a man of science, of practicality. But after dating him for as long as you have, you also know him to be a believer of soulmates and small miracles. So when you wake up in the middle of the night and realize youâve turned into a small miracle worm, youâre not discouraged. Youâre hopeful. After a long night shift, Jack comes back to your shared house the morning of your wormification and sits down on the entryway bench. âBabe? You awake?â He rubs his eyes in exhaustion, a yawn escaping his mouth. The kitchen is usually filled with the scent of his favorite coffee brewing but he notices the air is stagnant. As he drops his hands to his thighs, he catches movement on the bench next to him. The smallest, cutest worm heâs ever seen is inching towards him with such precision and dedication- he knows immediately that itâs you. âOh myâwhatâsweetheart!â You crawl onto his finger which he so thoughtfully placed in your path, feeling relief after your treacherous journey all the way from the bedroom. âYouâve really taken this whole thing a little too far, donât you think?" He tsks. "I mean, of course I still love youâbut you didnât have to actually turn into a worm.â He kisses the thumb of his other hand and gently places it on your little worm body. âWhat am I gonna do with you, babe? Gonna have to carry you around with me everywhere I go. Only way to keep you safe.âÂ

CLAWS AT YOU
đŤłđť
"Donât kiss me like that and pretend it means nothing."
WEEEE thank you erin i hope you like <3 i know you didn't specify but i did robby i hope that's ok
dr robby x f!reader
Just hours earlier, your life had been delightfully uncomplicated. You were single, living alone just you and your cat, and you spent most weekends that way. You'd given up on dating after a particularly horrifying first date where a man had tried to explain to you, a nurse practitioner, the benefits of consuming raw milk. He had taken on an incredibly condescending tone when you'd tried to explain to him that pasteurization was basically just boiled milk.
"And who told you that? Big Pharma?"
And so for months you had decided, well, maybe it was for the best you stayed out of the dating pool. All it had to offer were alt-right conspiracy theorists, divorced man children, and non-commital polyamorists, all of which you'd had more than your fill of in your near two decades of dating.
So it had really put a wrench in your plans when drunk at the Pitt's annual summer party, you'd kissed Robby.
And it hadn't been a peck or even just a few seconds where you immediately realized your mistake. No, you had pushed him up against a wall and kissed him with seemingly every ounce of desire you possessed. You left no room for misinterpretation.
Admittedly, while drunk, you'd been overly physically affectionate for what felt like hours. Running fingers over his, squeezing his arm as you passed, lingering, longing gazes.
There had always been a playfulness between you. You'd been working in the Pitt for nearly a decade and so there was a familiarity. You would ocassionally flirt and he would flirt back. But it had always been harmless. It had never crossed the line.
But as you were outside getting some air, he'd followed you out. Leaned down and whispered in your ear, "I'm tired of pretending that I don't want you."
And something inside you snapped. You were also sick of pretending you didn't want him, didn't think about him when you were alone. You pressed your hands firmly against his chest until his back hit the wall and kissed him fervently. For a moment or two, he seemed in shock, and then he was kissing you back, both of his hands reaching up to cradle your face.
It was the best kiss you'd had in years. You couldn't kiss him deeply enough to satisfy your want and when you licked into his mouth, tongue stroking against his, the sound and feel of him moaning into your mouth had you feeling completely feral.
Then, just as quickly, rational thought reappeared in your brain. It seemed to politely tap you on the shoulder and say, Hello Ms. Girl, remember when you said you were done with fuckboys? Why are you making out with the attending most well known for sleeping around?
And it felt like a bucket of ice cold water was dumped over your head, "OhâFuck meâ" You pushed yourself off him, "IâI have to go."
Stunned, he watched you go for a second, then laughed and trailed after you, "Excuse me?"
You couldn't meet his eye, "I said, I have to go. I'll miss my bus."
"I'll take you home."
"I don't get in the car with people who've been drinking."
"Then I'll call us both an Uber."
Finally, you laughed, "I am not going home with you, Robby."
Then his hand was around your wrist and he tugged until you spun back to him. Not forcefully enough to hurt, but enough that you stumbled back into his chest. Enough that your breath comingled with his, his exhales forced directly into your open mouth. The taste of him, the smell of him nearly made your knees buckle. It had been a long time since you'd felt that somersault in your stomach at someone's closeness.
"Don't kiss me like that and pretend it means nothing." The yearning dripped off his words like morning dew, landed sweetly on your tongue.
You swallowed and then your eyes pulled up from his mouth to his brown eyes, begging you to drown in their pools of honey.
But you were not a fly. You would not be so easily ensnared. You straightened your spine and pulled away from him again, "Goodnight, Robby." You tossed over your shoulder before marching away from him.
"This isn't over!" He called after you, "If you think I'll forget about this, I won't! We'll circle back on Monday!"
You couldn't help the smirk that twisted your mouth upwards. Despite your reservations, the possibility of being pursued by Michael Robinavitch thrilled you.
Game on. You thought, and raised your hand over your head to acknowledge that you heard before quickening your pace.
He tried to keep his mind in the present, but the flashes kept seeping through like a suture that just wouldn't hold back a bleed.
â---
Blood soaked camo, the familiar tear of BDUs as he cut through the fabric to access the man's leg, trying to pick the shards of shattered headlight out of the tibialis anterior only to see they were crushed through the tibia itself.
âIâm sorry, sir, we're going to have to amputate. Your husbandâs leg just has too much damage for an ortho to reconstruct.â
Watching the manâs face crumble as he clung to his unconscious husband's hand.
â----
Jack squeezed his eyes shut instead of leaning forward again. Watching a devoted husband breaking down over his partner's medical emergency used to be an average Tuesday. But that was before.
Before Robby went off on his suicide ride and came back a week later even more hollow than he left. Before he spent the summer on Jackâs couch, drinking himself stupid and being there every time Jack came home from a shift. Before breakfast at five in the afternoon became a team sport. Before he got used to someone waking him up from his night terrors with a comforting hand and the sympathetic eyes of a damn basset hound. Before Robby managed to be just the right combination of broken and sarcastic that Jack apparently had no choice but to fall for him.
Flexing his fingers against the cold railing behind him, he grounded himself in the sharp sting of the metal against his palms.
âI hate to sound like my grandmother, but you're going to catch your death out here.â
Fuck. Of all the people to find him, it had to be the one man he'd been taking great pains to avoid.
âNot now, Robby.â
âYeah, I could definitely come back a little later once the frosbite sets in. Give you two nice forearm stumps to match your leg. Maybe freeze off a few toes if you really wanna do the thing right..â
âReal funny, Robinavitch.â
âYou okay? The vet?â
âNot even a vet yet. He's still active duty. Was. Was here on weekend leave. Survived two tours in Kandahar then a drunk driver mows him down crossing east ninth and now he's gonna spend the rest of his life an amputee. You know what the odds of that are? Like a heroin user sharing needles for 60 years only to die from a rusty nail going through his bedroom slippers.â
âThat was specific.â
âWell, I get poetic when I'm pissed.â
âYou sure do. That's not why you're pissed though.â
âOh yeah? Why am I pissed?â
âI don't know. That's why I'm out here. You were off before he even came in. You've been off for weeks. I keep thinking you're gonna get over it, then it goes further in the other direction.â
âDon't know what you're talking about, Robby.â
âLike hell you don't,â then his voice softens after a deep, exasperated breath. âListen, you don't have to tell me, but I wanted you to know you had someone to talk to if you needed an ear.â
Jack lets out a sigh and peers down at the street below him one more time. His fingers are already going numb. A few more minutes and they might just slip. The fall would probably kill him. He straightens up, but keeps the thought in reserve for if the other leap he's about to make goes wrong.
âIt was the husband,â he says softly.
âWhat about him?
âHe reminded me of someone.â
âOh yeah? Who?â
âLet's see, tall, pale, bearded. He was kind and good hearted, but stubborn and dramatic as hell, too smart for his own good, think he was even a doctor.â
âHe wasnât a doctor, he was a phlebotomist.â
âPotato, potAHto.â
âAnd this bugs you why?â
âMaybe I'm upset because the world has two of you?â
âJack.â It was his name but the tone said cut it out.
âIt bothered meâŚâ he scrubs his hand over the back of his neck. âHe loves that man so much. You could see it in every line in his face.â
Jack lets out a heavy breath.
âJack.â This time it was soft. Confused. Almost scared. âWhat's going on?â
âI need you off my couch.â He says roughly. There's a long pause.
âOkay. That's fair. Three months is more than generous. Can I ask why?â
To hell with it.
âBecause if I come home to your stupid face one more damn time I'm gonna do something stupid like kiss it and I'd really like to exit this hellish year with our friendship intact.â
He heard the intake of breath even over the sound of the rain.
âJack, turn around.â Michaelâs voice was shaky but deeper than he'd ever heard it.
âIf you're gonna punch me you should let me climb over the railing first so it's not homicide.â
âI'm not gonna punch you, you idiot, I'm gonna kiss you. I've waited months.â
Jack turns around.
Before he can get over the railing Robby's hands are on his face and he's being kissed so thoroughly he forgets it's raining.
strikeout (aka bong rips with your much older boyfriend grant reilly)
MDNI 18+ | fluffy blurb
pairing: grant reilly x stoner!fem!reader
summary: you're ripping bong at your apartment while your boyfriend grant reilly watches the red sox get absolutely railed by the yankees đ
tags: alcohol, weed, age gap, yankees/red sox, implied age gap (grant is 50, reader is late 20s to mid-30s), fluffy weed fluff
words: 753
a/n: this was a writing exercise with some friends who write SH fics. each of us picked a word and we all had to write a lil blurb that incorporated all five words. any hatosy character, any genre, under 1k words. i legit wrote this on the walk home from the gym + in the ~15 mins i had between getting home and making dinner.
the required words: flexing, potato, asphalt, slipper, phlebotomist
Itâs Monday night and you're so glad the sun is gone. The day had been long and hot as fuck, so hot that you could fry an egg on asphaltâand, honestly, knowing Grant, he probably could. You emerge from the kitchen in your cozy slippers and walk into the living room carrying two open bottles of Sam Adams, one for each of you. Itâs the top of the fifth inning and Bostonâs trailing the Yankees 6â0.Â
âSee, babe, we could be watching Monday Night Raw instead of⌠Monday Night Bloodbath,â you tease before taking a seat on the couch next to him. You pass him the other bottle of beer before resting your free hand on his thigh.Â
He smirks and shakes his head playfully. âOh come on, itâs my one night off! Let me have this. Besides, gameâs not over yet.â
âOkay fiiine, but itâs gonna cost you!â You lean away from him toward the coffee table and start to ritualistically pack a bowl for your bong. Grant keeps watching the game; meanwhile, you get up and walk toward the cabinet where you keep your booze. You grab a bottle of whiskey and a shot glass and bring them to the coffee table. You pour out a single shot and set the glass next to the packed bong, then rest your beer bottle on the space beside them.Â
âBabyy,â you coo at him to grab his attention.Â
âYeah?â Grant looks up at you with those hazel eyes that trigger a Pavlovian response between your legs. Like, itâs on sight.Â
âIf Iâm gonna go through the torture of sitting through this game, youâre gonna have to do a strikeout with me!â
Grant looks confused for a sec. âIs that⌠baseball related?â
âI dunno, maybe once upon a time, butââ you lean over toward the coffee table, pop a potato chip into your mouth, and begin to demonstrate, pointing at each of the steps to the process. âOkay, so, first you rip the bong, then, while holding your breath, you chug the rest of your beer and take a shot. Then you blow it out. Howâs that sound?â
âYou trying to kill this old man?â Grantâs gives you a face that could only read as what the fuck. The lines on his face deepened. You wanted to lick them.Â
âOh come on, youâre not that old! Or else weâre switching to the acrobatic soap opera of greasy buff dudes in tighty-whities.â
âYou just wanna get me intoxicated so you can get in my pants.â
âPlease. Youâd let me get in them sober.â
âTrue.â Grant leans over and plants a light kiss on your lips. âMm, juicy.âÂ
âWait no ew my phlebotomist called my vein juicy today it was so weird.â
Grant laughed because everything you say is funny to him. âOkay, show me how you do this.â
So you demo it for him and itâs super easy for you. Youâre basically just flexing your lung capacity when you nonchalantly go through the motions of a fat bong hit, chugging the rest of your lagger, taking a swig of Oban single malt scotch, and blowing a thick cloud of sativa smoke that was the same color as Grantâs tight salt and pepper hair. At the same time, Abreu hits a two-RBI single and gets the Sox on the board.
âSee, babe? Like itâs hard?â You teased in your best Elle Woods impression before letting out a cough. âOkay baby itâs your turn⌠maybe itâs a Schrodingerâs Cat situation and you doing a perfect strikeout will get us another run or two.â
Grant scoffs in a way that says this is ridiculous but heâs game because he will literally do anything for you. That man praises the ground you walk on.
At least this is GOOD whiskey, you think while pouring his shot. It smelled like the Highlands.
He executes his strikeout perfectly and that actually shocks you. You were kinda expecting him to cough right after the beer. Instead he looks so hot and smug, blowing his own cloud of smoke at you.Â
âDid you knowâŚâ Grant says while you watch him dissolve into the high. â...when you smoke from a bong youâre using all four elements? Thatâs fucking awesome.â
Then he's looking into your eyes again and you share a bloodshot gaze, smiling goofily at each other. On TV, the Yankees struck out with the bases loaded. But suddenly that didn't matter.Â
There was only one person he wanted to run the bases with.

did a little writing exercise with some friends
we all chose 1 word to incorporate into a drabble/blurb w/ a Hatosy character of our choosing - under 1k wc:
flexing - asphalt - potato - phlebotomist - slippers (FAPPS lol)
Itâs early morning on Popeâs birthday - the summer sun not yet heating the asphalt to a bubbling degree. Heâs still fast asleep, steadily breathing on the back of your neck.Â
Pope hardly ever stays in bed this long - but after the workout the two of you had last night, you swear he was almost smiling as he drifted off, his arms wrapped around you. As he snuggled into you in the afterglow - pulling you close - you felt the usual tension in his body melt away.Â
The sun peeks through the curtains and you sneak out from his embrace, managing not to wake him. You press a gentle kiss onto his temple and he lets out a little sigh before pulling the covers over his freckled body.Â
Slinking your feet into your slippers, you make your way to the kitchen. You hardly ever get to surprise Pope with breakfast - so you figure his birthday would be the perfect opportunity.Â
As the smells of bacon and coffee flood through the house, you hear faint grumbles and good morning groans coming from his bedroom. He plods down the hallway with heavy feet and comes up behind you as you finish cooking the breakfast potatoes. He envelops you with his muscular frame, inhaling the scent of your neck then kissing it sweetly.
âMmmm. Smells good.âÂ
âMe or the breakfast?âÂ
âBoth.â
He smiles into your neck as he continues to pepper you with delicate kisses, his stubble grazing against your skin. You wrap one of your hands behind his neck, raking your fingers through his hair affectionately.Â
âHappy birthday.âÂ
âYou remembered?âÂ
âOf course I remembered.â
He looks around the kitchen to see all the fuss youâve made over him, including a birthday card and precisely wrapped present sitting on the table next to his favorite mug of coffee.Â
âAll this just for me?âÂ
The tone of his voice tells you heâs never had someone show him this much care.
âJust for you, Andrew.â You click off the burner and turn to face him. âAnd all this just for me?â you ask as you run your hands over his bare chest, biting your lip as you look up at him.Â
You move your hand to his bicep and you let out an involuntary whimper as you touch him. He laughs and rolls his eyes at you because he knows how much you love his arms. So he puts on a little show, flexing his muscles for you, his veins popping out like a phlebotomistâs wet dream.Â
âJust for you. Always.â
Pope brings his mouth down to yours and you melt into his kiss. He pulls you into him and grabs your ass before giving you a tap. You jump up and wrap your legs around him and he carries you back towards the bedroomâŚÂ
âAndrew- the food is gonna get coldâŚâ you whine against his lips.Â
âItâs okay, sweetheart. Itâll reheat,â he says with a devilish smirk on his face. âI have another thing in mind for my birthday breakfast.â
highkey recommend doing this with your fic friends
a fun way to get the creative juices flowing.

andrew cody who tells you to hold still while he brings his hands slowly up to your face. cupping your jaw with one hand, holding you in place, slowly swiping his thumb under your eye, catching a dark, fallen eyelash on his finger. he holds it up for you and tells you to make a wish. you try and bite back a smile at his adorableness, quirking your mouth to the side, not entirely sure what your wish should be. you ask what he would wish for but he simply shakes his head, his eyes moving with devotion over your face. i already have it.

summary:Â you stumble onto the cody compound during the tail end of an acid trip, not expecting to see pope cody bleeding out next to the pool while the property burns down. next thing you know, youâre putting your cover and livelihood at risk. now it sounds like you have a moral obligation to be there for him.

a/n: i know, i know, this is so different from the smut but i'm trying to diversify! and this is my first attempt at writing a longer version of pope that isn't this blurb or this one. i have notes on how this could be a multichapter series if i have the energy/capacity for it, even though golden hour is also right there begging for my attention. also i am imagining fmc's character (pinterest mood board) and skill set as a cross between medic and huntress archetype, but that can still change if this story continues.
songs i'm thinking about:
... arctic monkeys - "i wanna be yours"
... charli xcx - "no one lasts forever"
You werenât sure how long it took you to realize the smoke was real. Youâd already experienced a few false flags today, like thinking you could hear someone addressing you or calling out your name, only to recall that those voices belonged to people who were long dead and gone. So that couldnât be possible, right? Besides, you were wrapped in the softest sheets and youâve now tried several times to count how many individual threads made up the luxurious quilt that had you wrapping yourself into a burrito and rolling back and forth across your king-sized bed.Â
When the day started, you had everything planned out. It was your first free day in months, and youâd planned to celebrate the last successful job with a much-deserved bender. The paper tabs were properly dosed and tested for safety. Your room was decked out in everything you needed to stay hydrated, create, or meditate as needed. Terry, your best friend and emergency contact, was fast asleep in the basement with instructions in case anything went askew during your trip. A couple of blunts and a fifth of Henny waited for you at the end of it.Â
Butâright, smoke. Smoke?
You stepped onto the patio with an unlit cigarette and tapped its filter against the railing a few times, feeling the echo of the miniscule crumbs of crushed tobacco tumbling through as you packed it down. A flick of the flint wheel was a millisecond that stretched into a fireworks show. Eyes closed when the flame appeared. Eyes opened, and youâd smoked it down to the butt. How much time had passed?
Wait, wrong smoke. Wrong flame. This wasnât what you came outside to do. You looked up and to the right, and there it was: a black column in the sky, coming from next door. Maybe the Codys were having a bonfire or something. But a bonfire wouldnât smell so hostile, and why the hell hadnât Craig invited you over if that was the case? ⌠and how could they have a bonfire where the poolâs supposed to be?Â
The asphalt melded against the soles of your shoes as you walked out of your house. You figured youâd see how the party was going, if there was a party, since you were in a partying mood anyway, and depending on how much time you had left, being at a party with other people shouldnât be as scary as it could have been while you were coming up. You knew it was best not to look at your phone, or at any mirrors, or even clocks if you could help it, in case more relics of your past returned to haunt you and made all this an extra bad ride.Â
Before stepping out of your back door, you grabbed a small go-bag anyway.Â
You smelled the smoke before you saw the flames. You saw the flames before you felt the heat. There was so much heatâand no clear entrances besides the one in the backyard by the pool. Less than a mile away, an alarm blared through the fire station and ten members of the fire department packed into two trucks headed your way. On the other side of town, four local police units were called to a fire at the Cody compound. Feds were likely on their way as well. You didnât know this for sure but thatâs what this raving inferno was dancing about.Â
Through the back entrance, your vision turned into a pinhole singularly focused on one subject. The sight was sobering. Definitely real.Â
Pope Cody, Smurfâs eldest son, limped out of a room he may have set ablaze. You saw as he collapsed in slow motion until he was slumped and bloody and alone, lying next to the pool as the house around him, the Cody kingdom, burned like the Library of Alexandria, like Persepolis, or Ancient Rome under Nero. Tufts of smoke from inside the house blasted through glass windows, and you could trace its path as it entered Popeâs nostrils and spread through his lungs and bloodstream. You ran toward him, and while closing the distance felt like a marathon you got to him eventually. In the corner of your eye you thought you saw a body, but your brain ignored it, razor-focused on a single goal for once. There was blood, and you werenât sure where it was coming from. Crimson dissipated from his body like clouds into the water.Â
He was bleeding out, but he was breathing. But he was bleeding the fuck out.Â
You splashed some pool water on your face to be sure this wasnât some other trick your mind was playing on you. Ferrous notes in the amber droplets confirmed it.
You crouched next to him and pinched every layer of his shoulder and repeated his name multiple times. âPope. Pope? Pope! Where is everyone? We need to get you out of here before the cops come.âÂ
âNo, donâtââ Pope stirred, dark opal eyes and a defeated expression like he was personally dragging himself to deathâs doorstep. He didnât seem to be in a rush. âLeave me here. Leave me here to die.â
âWell youâre shit out of luck, Andrew Cody,â you said, fingers scanning his neck, searching for a pulse. â...cos it looks like I have to save your life.âÂ
His pulse was thready at best.
âGetââÂ
âStop talking.â You heaved an exasperated sigh and wagered the additional âfuckâ under your breath was too quiet for him to hear.
On closer inspection you saw where a bullet tore through the right side of his abdomen, so he was bleeding on two sides; that had its pros and cons. Working quickly, you propped him upright, unzipped your go-bag and packed some gauze into the exit wound. You unbuttoned your shirt and threw it over your head, then wrapped it across his side so you could have something for both sides of his body. Popeâs hand which had dipped into the blood-soaked pool was now holding the top of your shirt against the bullet wound. You tamped down on his hand to signal pressure.Â
âPlease, Pope. Hold this. Keep that right thereâdo as I say.â
His eyes started to gloss over, wordless, and holding him there felt like you were witnessing his physical heart as it struggled to stay in motion.Â
Time slowed while your hand was on top of Popeâs, and you watched your flesh melt onto his. For a brief moment it was as if his breathing and yours were the same breath. As if you felt his pain, felt the warmth slowly escaping his body as his blood continued to spill, creating red trails along the tile on its way to the pool. You were no saint, and neither was Pope, but holding onto this man while watching the life drain out of him ignited something within you. There was no other option but to do everything you could to save his life.
âStay with me, Pope!â
Then with your brainâs sudden upload of hawklike abilities you darted around what little of the compound wasnât engulfed in flames or covered in shards of broken glass to find anything that could help you get this beautiful, dying man in motion, still breathing, and out of there.
When Pope Cody woke up hours later, the sirens that crescendoed while the emergency cavalries pulled up to the Cody compound had already died out. The crowd of curious spectators and press vans had since thinned. He was now in a room that was nearly silent, save for the synthetic crashing of waves that played on loop through a single speaker.Â
At first he couldnât see too clearly, mainly because of your offset angle while sleeping parallel to him, but it didnât take long before Pope recognized you. He remembered you from a few of his brothersâ house parties, and heâd even spoken to you once or twice. If he recalled correctly, you were Craigâs friend, the one who liked to give him a bit of a show when his younger brother picked you up while celebrating another winning round of beer pong. You liked to wear that short pink dress that always rode up a little and never failed to catch Popeâs eye. He noticed you, and he always noticed you noticing him. You had that smile that was coy and mischievous and oddly inviting. You never once looked at him oddly, or like you were scared of him, even when everyone else at the party seemed to be.Â
Then he remembered what heâd done, how heâd set itâthe living room, the kitchen, his room, his brothersâ roomsâall on fire. After expending most of his energy on J and eventually letting him go, Pope was done. The guilt over what happened with Julia, over allowing his mother to use him the way she did all his life, washed over him like the surf against jagged rocks along the coast. He didnât know where Craig and Deran had gone, probably dead or arrested, but Pope knew for sure heâd had enough. He held the gas can and doused everything in petroleum, ready to end it all, himself included. He remembered walking toward the pool, that photo of him and Julia in hand, before the darkness finally collected its dues.Â
Pope didnât expect to wake up.
In a way, he didn't want to.Â
He started to make sense of the sterile white space surrounding him. It was neither Hell nor Heaven, but a mysterious room that smelled like lavender and antiseptic and looked like something between a clinic, an interrogation room, and the sunken living room of his family home. He tried to sit up and look out the window and maybe figure out where he was in relation to the compound. He tried to move his hands, only to learn he was not only handcuffed to what looked like a single sized hospital bed from the 20th century, a vein in his right arm was also connected to an IV drip and he had several bandages around his torso. He had no idea where he was, where anyone was, or what the person sleeping in the daybed across the room had to do with any of this.Â
Where was he, why were you here, and what did you want from him?
When Pope Cody woke up, you were still asleep.Â
So he did what he did best: he watched you.Â
And he waited.
Popeâs eyes were still fixed on you by the time you finally woke up. The sight of him was jarring enough that the realization activated your instinct to sit upright, pointing your gun at his chest but remembering the state of his condition made you lower your guard just as quickly. He mirrored your tension and relaxed when you did.Â
âGood morning,â you greeted him, rubbing your eyes. There was a general malaise about your body as you grounded yourself back onto reality, no doubt an aftereffect of your depleted serotonin from the day before. âWelcome back to the land of the living, Pope Cody. Congratudolences.â
âThis isnât a hospital,â Pope said, unblinking. It wasn't a question . âYou law enforcement?â
âIâm just the girl next door.â You tilted your head at him with a coy smile. Behind the brick wall of his glare you could sense his confusion. âNo, really, weâre right next door to your familyâs compound. Whatâs left of it, anyway. And no, not law enforcement.â
Pope tugged at his handcuffs. âThen why do I feel like a prisoner?â
You forgot about those.
âOh, yesââ you reached into your pocket to retrieve a pair of chrome keys and approached one side of the bed. âThese were honestly just a precaution in case you decided to run off before I could catch you up on everything. Because Iâm not sure you remember, but you were shot quite a few times.â
âI can see that,â he grunted, glancing at the bandages on his torso, and in doing so noticed he didnât have any clothes on under the blanket. Theyâd been soaked in blood, and you had to cut them off his body before you treated him to avoid infection.
âWell, one of them went through and through too, so,â you continued. âYou really do need to take the time to rest. Recovery might take a while, and I donât think youâre the type to turn up at a real hospital if you can help it.â
He shook against the cuff on his left wrist to draw your focus. Your hands hovered over the lock on his wristâs side of the cuffs and said, âPlease donât put me in a headlock when I unlock this. Iâm only trying to help you. Promise?â
Popeâs brow curled in an attempt to cover the sting of his wounds. He couldnât hurt you if he tried. âYeah, promise.â
You turned the key and slowly unclasped the metal cuff off his wrist. Pope barely moved. You rested one hand over his bandaged arm.
âTake it easy with this one,â you instructed him, raising and lowering his wrist carefully before walking to the other side of the bed.Â
âDidâdid you pull me out of there all by yourself?â Pope clutched across his torso with his free arm. He wasnât sure if you were working alone, with someone else, or for someone in particular.Â
âYes, I did.â
âHow?â
âI got creative.âÂ
In reality, you were blasted off to space and could barely remember, either. You could really only recall discrete vignettes of the night before. Rolling Pope along the nearest set of wheels so he could get to your house. Making a premature phone call before the end of your trip to move him to the dining table and then to this bed. You werenât sure how Pope would react if he knew what state you were in when you treated his bullet wounds.
âBut why?â
âWhy what?â
âWhy did you do that?â
You paused before unlocking the handcuff on his right.
âItâs kind of a funny story, really,â you told him flatly. âTurns out Iâm the kind of idiot who runs toward a burning building while tripping on research chemicals. Iâm sure someone from the legendary Cody family will make it up to me. So⌠youâre welcome.â
He couldnât tell if you were joking, and even you were only half sure.Â
âWell, maybe I didnât want you to pull me out of there. Itâs over. Itâs all gone.â Popeâs voice broke into a whimper, and you were surprised when his hand reached for your forearm. His grip tightened, though still weak, but it wasnât out of anger. âI should be dead.â
Your expression shifted into a sneer. âSo, fun update for you while you were sleeping. As of right now, you, Pope Cody, are presumed dead. They found a body that got incinerated after the grill exploded during the fire, and it sounds like theyâre saying it was you.â
âHow do you know that?â Popeâs voice was gruff, like his words had to evade stalactites in your throat before they came out.
âI have my sources,â you replied. Pope clutched across his chest again, winced again, his face squeezing into itself. A patch of blood had seeped through the gauze. âShit, we should probably change those up. One sec.â
You sauntered to the other side of the room toward the wood and glass cabinet you used to store medical supplies. While its contents were alphabetically organized by function and name on any other day, your altered state the night before made sure you'd be dealing with the absolute opposite. Syringes sat next to blood bags, vials of ketamine next to antiseptic bottles set on top of sterile gauze, vials of morphine from Tijuana you'd have to deal with later. Tucked into the second row, middle-right shelf you eventually found the little black caboose where you stashed an array of pain pills that had miraculously stayed intact. You grabbed that along with some gloves, gauzeâso much gauzeâand some saline, tape, scissors, antiseptic wipes, and laid the supplies neatly on the table next to Popeâs bed.Â
âAlright, Pope, Iâm gonna need you to sit up for me a bit, if thatâs okay.âÂ
Pope hesitated, but he eventually gathered some strength to sit up. You held him closely for support, knowing his wounds were still fresh, and a part of you wondered what youâd see after unpacking the wound. Dread bubbled in your stomach. Worst case scenario, your high ass had packed the bullet tract with unsterile gauze, or done a terrible job patching him up. You moved his pillow so it better supported his back. Once he was in a more secure position, you put on your gloves.Â
âThis isnât gonna be fun,â you began. âBut weâll need to do this a few times while you heal up. I have supplies for about a week, but then Iâll have to send for some more.â
âYou a doctor or something?â Pope asked, and you realized you still hadnât introduced yourself or given him any reason to trust you.Â
âKind of. Not really,â you opened a drawer on the bedside table to retrieve a glass and mercury thermometer and gave it a few swipes with an antiseptic wipe. âBut I knew enough to keep you alive, didnât I? Open your mouth for me.â
âIs it⌠clean?â he asked, furrowing his brow at the mercury thermometer that was now in your hand. He was surprised to see that device past the year 2000, but using them meant having one less battery-operated tool for you to manage.Â
You nodded. âItâs clean, justâyou should be old enough to know not to bite on it too hard.â
Pope opened his mouth so you could stick the thermometer under his tongue. While waiting, you took a pulse oximeter from a drawer and slipped it onto his index finger to check for his pulse and O2 levels, which were surprisingly stable. His body temperature was normal as well. You gently removed the thermometer from his mouth but kept the pulse ox on his finger.Â
You sighed and pressed your lips tightly.Â
âIâm going to take your bandages off now, Pope,â you continued, reaching for a pair of sterile scissors. You worked softly but deliberately, taking your time to carefully remove the tape that affixed the gauze to his bare chest and abdomen, trying your best not to pull on any of his hairs while doing so. The bottom layer of gauze had attached itself to some dried blood and flesh, so you instructed him, âCan you breathe in for me real quick, please? Good, now give me a slow exhale.â
His breath broke as your slow pull on the gauze caught on some of his exposed flesh, collecting blood and tissue and plasma from the site. Pope winced, then grunted, as if to stifle a scream, and you watched the pulse ox register a spike in his heart rate. He managed a low âfuckâ once his breathing normalized.
âGood, youâre doing so good for me right now, Pope,â you said. You lifted the last layer of blood-soaked dressing to reveal the entry wound, which was packed in with even more gauze that had to be removed. âDonât worry, Iâve done this plenty of times.â
Pope was familiar with the process, having been on the receiving end of this treatment more times than heâd like to admit. That didnât stop him from flinching as you used a pair of forceps to gently pull the packing gauze from the tract. He grunted at the sting of the thin, blood-soaked fabric against his exposed flesh and squeezed his eyes shut so he didnât have to watch you snake it out of him. Popeâs hand grasped your forearm again. You usually didnât allow clients to touch you like that, often giving them some other object to clamp onto, but you let him.
Once the gory part was over, you examined the open wound for any signs of infection, still unsure what exact measures you took to treat him last night but also rather impressed at yourself for doing what seemed to be a bang-up job so far. The redness was to be expected, and you noticed some light yellow discharge near the opening that would need to be cleaned out before repacking. âYou okay? Gonna need you to be real still for what Iâm gonna have to do next, Popeââ
âAndrew,â he interrupted you. Craig once mentioned that only their mother ever got to call Pope by that name. But Smurf was dead. Smurf was gone.Â
âAndrew,â you repeated. âIâm gonna be honest, Iâm all out of lidocaine, so the next few minutes are gonna hurt like a motherfucker. But know that Iâve got you, and I really am sorry because this is really going to suck.â
Popeâs eyes fixed on your face, glaring intensely as you spoke. He paused and braced himself. His wounded biceps twitched and tightened, as did his forearms. âReady.â
âGood.â
The rest of the process went like clockwork, and your head gradually cleared up while you continued to work on him with practiced movements. You irrigated the wound with a saline solution you made from boiled salted water and used an antiseptic wipe that nearly had Pope yelling on contact. He held onto whatever part of your free arm he could and tightened his grip whenever he wanted to scream, but you didnât mind. Repacking the gauze was always the worst part, inevitably causing Pope to let out a single, tortured wail that violated his signature composure. Finally, you replaced the outer layer of gauze and tape, and all you had to do next was repeat the entire process on the exit wound.
You asked Pope about what happened, if he knew where his brothers were, why he set the house on fire. He was silent for a while, clenching and unclenching his jaw while you probed him, and youâd expected as much based on what little you'd heard about the oldest Cody brother. Slowly, around the time you were disinfecting his back wound, Pope started to ease up, his hand still on you, grip loosening.Â
âThe truth is,â he began. âI don't even know where they are.âÂ
âDeran or Craig?â
Pope shrugged, causing the packing gauze to touch the inside of his wound again. He flinched then shook his head. âNo.â
âWhat about your nephew, J?â you asked. Popeâs eyes turned black, and that was enough for you to understand. â...got it.â
He sat wordlessly and completely still for the remainder of it. When you were finished, you slowly guided him back to a more comfortable position with one arm around his shoulders as you chanted, âEasy, Andrew, easy, okay, thatâs very good.â
Pope Cody was a densely muscular tank of a man, but you were stronger than you looked and he noticed that. You had clear memories of being able to pick Craig up with relative ease a couple of years ago. Pope was also there that day, and you wondered if he remembered seeing you then. His shoulders were firm and heavy against you, but your arm was strong enough to support him without additional assistance this time.Â
âYou know you didnât need to do this,â Pope said flatly while you cleaned up.
âWhat do you mean?â you asked in response.
âKeep me alive. Still donât get why me.â
âHonestly, Iâm not sure I have an answer for you. Karmic energy, maybe?â You pouted, shook your head, then shrugged at the man in front of you whom you compulsively brought under your care. You werenât totally lying. âLook, Andrew, you might be a little bummed to not be dead right now, but the least you can do right now to thank me is stay here and rest up. Everyone thinks Pope Cody is dead, but if you show your pretty face outside thatâll all change in a heartbeat. Play your cards right, and you might have a chance to start over, get a whole new lease on life.âÂ
You paused, trying to read him, but to decipher what was behind Pope Codyâs stare was a Sisyphean task, and if he agreed to stay, youâd have time for that later.Â
He stayed quiet so you continued, âI know you have a lot of questions right now, and I might have some of the answers, but can we talk over breakfast? I can bring it to you but get some rest.â
You waited for the slightest change in his face, maybe a twitch of his jaw or a curl in his lip.Â
âYeah. Yeah, okay,â he nodded.
âGood. Iâll be back in half an hour and youâll have breakfast in bed. You are going to get better, Andrew, and once youâre ready, we can talk about how weâre gonna deal with that fucker J.â

âWhat do we got?â Robbyâs voice is scratchy and tired, exhausted from the already grueling shift heâs endured. He helps guide the EMTs into Trauma 2, Mateo and Javadi on his heels. The night shift handover has started, but Robby didnât quite manage to escape before this one breached the doors of the Pitt.
âHit and run. Drunk driver vs. pedestrian. Female. Late 20s. Unresponsive at the scene. Coded during transport. Managed to get a pulse. Sheâs hanging on. BarelyââÂ
Robby gloves up, moving to assess the patient.Â
âAlright, we move her on three. One-two-three,â he grunts as they shift the woman to the gurney.Â
Sheâs in rough shape.
He canât believe sheâs breathing.
He glances from her feet, up her legs, her torso, her arms.
His eyes land on her face.
His breath escapes him, betrays him.
Every bit of his medical training, of his focus, of his knowledge is suddenly zapped from his very being.Â
âFuck,â he whispers.
âDr. Robby?â Javadi sounds like sheâs under water.
âFuck.â
âDr. Robby! Where do we start?â she yells across the patient between them.
His hands go into auto-pilot, answering her question as he takes over. Running traumas year after year, shift after shift, heâs able to keep working even if heâs not fully present.
He racks his brainâ
He canât remember if he saw Jack.
Is he even on shift tonight?
âWhereâs Jack?â
âWhat?â Javadi asks.
âAbbot. Where is Dr. Abbot?â
âHe was rounding on the handovers last I saw,â Mateo calls out.
âFind him.â
âDo you want me to bring him in?â Mateo is halfway to the door.
âItâs gonna work. It has to. IâmâRobby, I think Iâm in love.âÂ
âJack! You havenât even talked to her. Just because weâve seen her here a handful of times and you stare at her with reckless abandon hoping sheâll look our wayâyouâre not in love.â
Jack elbows Robby in the ribs as he takes a sip of his beer.Â
âIâm telling you, Mike. That woman is going to be my wife.âÂ
Theyâre at their favorite spot like they are every Friday night. Watching whatever game is on the TV, listening to Pearl Jam play through the speakers.Â
âYouâre exhausting, Jack. What makes you think sheâs gonna go for you?âÂ
âIâm very handsome. With a bit of an edge.â Jack smirks. âPlus I have a hugeââÂ
âJesus.â Robby shakes his head, a laugh escaping him.Â
âBrain, Mike.â Jack taps the side of his head. âBrain.âÂ
Robby scoffs. The door to the bar swings open and in walks the girl of their dreams.Â
Jack immediately straightens up on his bar stool. Fidgeting. Adjusting his flannel shirt. Rubbing his hands on his thighs. Robby glances over his shoulder and sees her. He turns back to Jack with his eyebrows raised.Â
âLooks like we get to test this out sooner rather than laterâŚâÂ
âFuck.âÂ
âWhatâs wrong, brother? Nervous?âÂ
âNo.âÂ
âThen go get her, champ.â Robby gives him a little-too-hard pat on his back.Â
Jack winces, then takes a deep breath. He makes his way to the edge of the bar where she stands.Â
He clears his throat, getting her attention, âMrs. Abbot?âÂ
She turns to him. He swallows hard, his Adamâs apple bobbing along the lines of his neck.Â
âThatâs not my name.âÂ
âItâs gonna be.âÂ
She laughs.
Itâs the sweetest sound Jackâs ever heard.
A symphony. A sonnet. A soliloquy.
Robby watches from across the bar, admiring Jack in his pursuit. She touches Jackâs bicep gently, a smirk curling on the corner of her lips. She writes her number down and hands him the piece of paper. Jack holds her hand a little too long, maintaining his notorious eye contact. He brings his lips to her fingers, kissing them gently in reverence and gratitude. Leaving her with a wink and a click of his tongue, he walks back towards Robby. Â
Handsome. With a bit of an edge.
Robby laughs, shaking his head as Jack sits back down next to him. He flashes her number before slipping it into his pocket.
âJack.â He tips his beer bottle towards Jack.Â
âMichael.â Clinking his bottle with Robbyâs, Jack takes a smug sip.
âJack...â Robby shakes his head again in disbelief.Â
âWhat?â Jack shrugs, a cocky smile forming on his face.Â
âWhat do we got?â Abbot elbows through the doors, blue gloves already skimming his hands.
âWeâre good in here, Dr. Abbot.â Robby shifts to block him with his body. Â
In truth, they were a few hands short.
Abbot cranes his neck to assess the patient.
âIâm sure, Dr. Robinavitch. Iâm justââ
âJackâŚâ
He sees her face. Her lips. Her hair. Her blood.
âJesusâŚâ
It falls out so quietlyâfor only Jesus, Himself, to hear.Â
âJesus, Jack. You canât be serious!âÂ
âMike, Iâve never been more serious.â
Jack pulls the little black box from his pocket and sets it on the table. Â
âYouâve only been together 6 weeks! Câmon, you gotta be smart about this. Weâre still in med school for fucks sake.âÂ
âWhat can I say? When you know you know, brother.âÂ
âAnd you know?âÂ
âI know. Robby. You know her. Youâve spent time with her. You see her. The light in her. The spark she ignites in me. Jesus, man, she ignites it in you too. You canât tell me she doesnât.âÂ
Robby loved her too.
But she belonged completely to Jack from the moment he approached her at the bar.
âSheâsâgod, sheâs fucking perfect,â Jack continues, a love struck look on his face.
âYouâre right.â
âSo you gonna help me, Mike?âÂ
âMike, help me.â
Their adrenaline is racing, they can practically feel their hearts beating in their throats. Both men fight the tears starting to form behind their eyes.
Robby takes a steadying breath, encouraging Abbot to do the same. Â
âYeah, yeah. Okay, brother. Letâs do this,âÂ
Robby does all he can as if this will bring her back.
Bring their years back.Â
In typical fashion, Abbot and Robby work together as if they share a brain. They donât speak to each other, only needing to communicate with the others. The trauma room is hotter and louder than usual. Theyâre drenched in sweat, their ears ringing with a cacophony of noisesâthe buzz of the monitors, the muffled voices that surround them, hands and instruments moving swiftly around her, inside her, through her.Â
She codes.
Flatline.Â
âI might die. I could flatline right here. Really, baby, check my pulse.â
They sit on her bed, hands touching, as a Blockbuster VHS plays on the TV/VCR combo.
She was watching the movie. He was watching her.Â
âFuture Dr. Abbott, are you trying to claim blue balls right now?â
âNo! We are so far past that. Iâm serious! Hereâfeel. Feel my carotid artery.â
The medical jargon and his wide eyes always work on her.Â
She gives him her hand, and he places it softly on his neck. His eyes flutter closed at her touch.
âSee? Thready. Iâm weak.â
âMmm⌠so weak blood flow?â
âNo. Of course not. Who said that?â
She wants him just as badly as he wants her, but she loves to hear him ask.
âThe point is, I need you. Iâll die here in your bed. It will be you and Robby at the headstone if I canât touch you.â He cocks his brow and puts his fingers on her neck, mirroring her position. âThatâs tachycardia, beautiful. I think you need attention too.â His thumb traces her jaw.
She pulls the corner of her lips up and clicks her tongue- a mannerism she picked up from him. âAt the headstone, huh?â Her hips begin to push forward as she decides heâs pleaded his case well enough.
âWailing. All night. Probably in the rain. Save my life, baby?â he whimpers and drops his head onto her chest.Â
As she lays back for him, the shift pulls his face down her body to the soft skin of her stomach exposed by her stretch. Sheâs hot under his cheek. Afraid he might break the spell, his breathing stills. He doesnât open his eyes. Slowly, his nose grazes back and forth on her skin. Her lotion is a new smell to treasure. Jack nudges her belly ring before pushing her tee up and planting kisses up to her bra line.
In her breathing he hears the green light. In her eyes he sees it.
âPlease?â
âYouâre not dying on my shift. Show me what you learned in Anatomy, Doctor Abbot.â
She pulls her skirt higher for him as he handles her underwear and makes a move to take his hat off.
âOh, no. No. Backwards cap stays on.â
His grin is greedy as he lowers his lips to her.
Man of Science, Man of Faith.
Jack is a Man of Divinity because he tastes the divine in her.
He is an excellent kisser. He told her so on the night they met. By now, itâs a fact she knows well, and she knows that skill transfers.
Jack takes his time savoring every precious minute he has between her legs. He studies exactly what she responds to.
She comes on his tongue.
A symphony. A sonnet. A soliloquy.
She tosses his hat away to rake her fingers through his curls. Jack kisses her while she unzips his jeans. She tastes herself on his lips as she wraps her hand around him.
âI'm not gonna last. Want you to come with me. What do you need?"
"Just this. Just you," she squeaks.Â
He kisses her again, deep and slow.
Billy Crystal begs for Meg Ryan in the background.
âBaby, if itâs tomorrow, Iâll die happy.â
Before he nudges himself all the way into her, he looks down across her body and puts his fingers to her neck again.
A pulse.
A shock.
âCharge to 200âCLEAR!âÂ
A shock.
No change.
âResume compressions.â
Jack looks at Robby across her body.
âPush 1 of Epi. Charge to 200 againâCLEAR!â
A shock.
A pulse.
Faint. But there.
Robby looks at Jack across her body.
The Cardiothoracic surgeon on call pushes through the doors of the trauma bay.
âWhatdya got for me, gentlemen?â
âHit and run. Drunk driver vs pedestrian. Female. Late 20s. Unresponsive at the scene. Coded during transport. They managed to get her pulse back. Massive internal injuries and bleeding around the heart. She coded again. Got her back after 2. Weak but present sinus. Sheâs a fighter.â
âAlrightâletâs bring her up.â
Mateo and Javadi help push the gurney out of the room.
Jack peels off his gloves and steals one stroke of her hair as she leaves his side.
âDid you see her? Sheââ It comes out like sandpaper.
âYeah. Yeah I saw, brother.â
Robby waits, gauging if Jack wants comfort by words or by touch.
Neither.
âGo. If youâre not back in 10, Iâll meet you on the sidewalk.âÂ
âJack. Abbot. You are not proposing to me on the sidewalk outside of a bar!âÂ
âIâm not? I kinda think I am.âÂ
Heâs already down on one knee.Â
âJack!âÂ
âBaby, youâre not even gonna hear me out?âÂ
âGo ahead,â she shakes her head at him.
The biggest smile on her face.
The smile that drives him crazy.
The one that ignites his spark.
He clears his throat. He takes her hand, he feels her pulse quicken.
âThe first moment I saw you, I knew I was a goner. I knew I was looking at my future.â
He brushes her knuckles with his thumb. A little smirk. He kisses her hand.Â
âI know I donât deserve you. Hell, Robby reminds me of that any chance he gets. But if youâll have me, I will spend the rest of my days praying to the stars, the galaxies, the cosmos, to make me worthy of your perfect heart. Will you do me the greatest honorâ?â
ââYes. God, Jack. Yes.â
A symphony. A sonnet. A soliloquy.
âCouldnât even let me finish the question, huh?â He slips the ring onto her finger.
She tosses her arms around him as he stands up, pulling her into his embrace. He kisses all over her beautiful face, his fingers brush her hair away from her face so he can look at her misty eyes.Â
âMrs. Abbot.â
âThatâs not my name.â
âItâs gonna be.âÂ
Jack grabs her and dramatically dips her, planting a grateful, passionate kiss on her lips.Â
âI love you, baby.âÂ
âI love you, Jack.âÂ
Jack leaves in silence.
Dana clocks his face immediately and knows better than to ask him.
On his way to the nurse's station, Robby activates the hand sanitizer. He quietly counts the passes over his skin. A ritual that he has built to ground himself in the chaos.
âRobby, Abbot okay?â
They watch Jack get on the elevator.
âNo. The, uh, hit and run looked like her.â
âLike who?â
Robbyâs brow rises. He tilts his head as his answer.
Like her.
âFuck.â
âThatâs what I said.â
His gallows humor peeks through.
âThat much?â
âUncanny.â
âShit. Gonna let him up there alone?â
Robby rubs both hands down the back of his neck and lets them follow down the tubing of his stethoscope. An aggravated sigh blows out of his lips.Â
He hates being handled.
He doesnât want to handle Jack.
âI said I would give him ten.â
âYou okay?â
âMe? Yeah. Iâm, uhâIâm okay.â
âYou go take your own ten, hmm?â
âYeah, okay.â
He didnât.
âHe didnât.â
âRobby, he did. He enlisted. IâI donât know what Iâm going to do.âÂ
âIâll talk to him.âÂ
âHeâs not gonna listen. He wonât listen to me. I practically begged him. He said something about âdutyâ, about a need to go help whoever he can over there.â She twists the engagement ring on her finger. âFuckinâ Jack and his hero complex.âÂ
âAnd yet we love him for it.â
âOr in spite of it. Always having to be the savior.âÂ
âHe saved me, you know?â Robby says, almost under his breath.Â
âWhat do you mean âsavedâ you?ââ
Robby rubs his face with his hands.
Heâs never shared this with anyone.
Not even Jack.Â
âI, uhââ he chuckles awkwardly, âbefore I met Jack I was in a really dark place. I, uh, fuckââÂ
Robby takes a steadying breath.
She reaches her hand out, gently placing it on his arm.
A comfort in the darkness.Â
ââListen, I never tried anything. But I thought about it. A lot. And then I met Jack. And the world lightened just a little bit, just enough. We saw a similar darkness in each other, but somehow that made it easier. I finally had someone who was there for me in a way no one else ever was. Jack is relentless. I mean, you know that better than anyone. His pursuit of you, his pursuit of anything he decides to do - to be - to love. Thereâs no escaping it. Not that anyone would want to. Itâsâitâs Jack, man.âÂ
âFuckinâ Jack.âÂ
âIâll talk to him.âÂ
âRobby, you just saidâonce he puts his mind towards something, you canât control him.âÂ
Robby controls what he can.
Are the rooms turned over?
Is the board up-to-date?
Is everyone making an effort to chart, at the very least?
He decides to go up to the surgical floor for an update.
âOkayâUh-huh. Christ. Okayâcall me with any updates. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Bye.âÂ
He hangs up the phone and turns to look at her, her face stained with tears.
âRobby?â She twists her wedding ring on her finger.
âTheyâre medevac-ing him to LRMC in Germany.âÂ
âBut heâs alive?âÂ
âHeâs alive.âÂ
âThey wouldnât tell me anything. We wereâwe were on our weekly call. Robby, he was so distraught. Looked like a shell of himself. He was trying to stay positive but he kept talking about confusing shooting stars with satellites, about missing me, about you, about his dwindling list of friends over there. Heâs lost so many of the ones he tried to save. And then there was panic behind him on the screen⌠and the call, it cut offâMichael⌠I thoughtââÂ
Robby wraps his arms around her as she sobs in his chest.
Tears pooling in the corners of his own eyes.Â
Jack had asked him to look after her if he didnât come home.
Jack asked her to do the same for Robby.Â
âShhh. Itâs okay. Heâs okay. Heâs gonna be okay. They wouldnât say much. But from what I gather, it was a below-the-knee amputation done in the field.âÂ
âAnd thatâs okay? Robby, none of this is okay!âÂ
âHey, hey. If youâre gonna have a leg amputationâthatâs sort of the best outcome. He still has his knee. Thatâs⌠thatâs good news, okay?âÂ
Robby wipes a tear from her cheek.
A comfort in the darkness.Â
âWeâll get you on the next flight to Germany, okay, sweetheart?â Â
âYouâll come with me? Heâll want to see you. He needs you, Mike.âÂ
âYeah, yeah. Okay. Weâll meet him there.â
âI donât know what Iâd do without him.â
âYou donât have to worry about that, heâs okay.â
Usually Jack is the one worried about Robby.
Guiding him through the tough moments, not letting him go dark.
Itâs been fifteen minutes since the gurney was wheeled out of the trauma room.
Robby pushes the door open to the roof.
No sign of Jack.
He spins around.
Not a soul.
The street below is quiet.
But he has to know. Â
Jack had asked him to look after her if he didnât come home.
So he looks after Jack for her.Â
Robby looks over the edge to find an empty sidewalk.
Relief washes over his body like an ocean wave.
He knows Jack is safe somewhere.Â
Robby finally takes his own ten.
From the wrong side of the railing, he looks to the sky. To the trees.
He feels his best friendâs pain in his ribs.
âOw! Fuck, Jack! Stop elbowing me in the fucking ribs. Iâm not you. I canât just approach a beautiful woman and turn on the effortless charm. She wonât buy it. Thereâs no point.â Robby shakes his head in frustration, glancing at the blonde holding court at the end of the bar.
âSorry Dr. Robinavitch. Didnât know residency turned you into such a pussy.â He takes a swig of his beer. Â
âJesus, Jack, did they amputate your empathy when they cut off your leg?âÂ
âRobby!â She swats at Robbyâs arm.Â
âItâs okay, baby. Robbyâs an introverted asshole, but I love him anyway.â He pulls the corner of his lip up and clicks his tongue. âSomeoneâs got to.â
She interlaces her fingers with Jackâs and squeezes his hand three times.Â
A symphony. A sonnet. A soliloquy.
Robby listens to the symphony of noises in the night air.
He stills himself. Allows himself to close his eyes.
When itâs like this, he can almost hear her.
He can almost see her.
He can almost see that spark.
In his friend.
In himself.
A siren wails in the distance. A warning that his time is up.
As he steps off the elevator, Dana catches his attention.
âThere you are. Spotted Jack.â
âWhere?âÂ
âWhereâwhere is she?âÂ
âWhat?â
âThe hit and run. The runner, the woman who was hit. MY WIFEâWHERE IS SHE?â
âTrauma 3. But, sir, you canâtâ â
Jack rushes towards the room, pushing through the doors, his gait sure but slightly unsteadyâstill adjusting to the fit of his new prosthesis. Robby is on his heels, trying to calm his friend but inside heâs just as upset, heâs practically vibrating.
*****
That night, Robby had dragged Jack out to the bar, practically begging him to go have a drink. Jack just wanted to stay home with his girl but relented, knowing his friend needed someone to commiserate with about his latest dating woes. He didnât like it when Robby drank alone.
When Robby swung by to pick up Jack, she told them she was going out for an evening run, one of her favorite activities to clear her mind.
âBe safe, I love you,â Jack said as he turned away from her, walking towards Robbyâs truck.
âDr. Abbot,â she cleared her throat, âYou forgetting something?âÂ
He immediately turned on his heels, walked up to her standing in the threshold, grabbed her in his arms and dramatically dipped her, planting a sloppy but sultry kiss on her lips. She giggled into his mouth while Robby watched his idiot friends be so in love. Â
âI could never forget that, Mrs. Abbot.â He kissed her again, sweeter this time.
âI love you, Jack. You too, Robby! Get him home safe, okay?âÂ
âScoutâs honor,â Robby replied, three fingers held in the air.
âWe wonât be too late. Take your flashlight with you in case it gets dark, okay? Love you, baby.â
He blows a kiss to her in the air, she catches it with her hand, bringing it to her heart.Â
*****
Jack scrambles to her side, trying to take her hand.   Â
âNo no no no. FUCK. Babyâbaby, Iâm here.â He kisses her fingers.
âSir, you canât be in here.âÂ
âSheâs my wife. Iâm a doctorâBaby! Baby, open your eyes, look at me⌠Iâm here. Please!âÂ
âJack! You have to let them work. You know better than anyoneââÂ
âGet OFF ME, Mike!â He shoves Robby to the side.
âSir, sheâs lost a lot of blood. Please, weâre doing everything we can.âÂ
âI can help. Someoneâsomeone get me gloves. Let me help. BabyâŚâ
âJack, you canât. You know you canât.â Jack shrugs Robbyâs hands off of him again.
âSomebody get him outta here!âÂ
âSir, please.âÂ
âJackââÂ
Robby finally manages to get Jack to take a few steps back.
His chest heaving with intense breath.
His body trembling.
The on-call surgeon comes into the room to assess.
Recommends immediate transport to the surgical floor to try to control the bleeding.
They shove a clipboard in Jackâs hand.
Through blurry eyes, he scrolls his signature for consent.
They start to move the gurney.
Jack grabs her hand.
Her misty eyes meet his.
Sheâs scared.
âI love you, baby.âÂ
She squeezes his hand three times, blinking away her tears.
His hand grazes her hair as they wheel her out of the room towards the elevator.
Jack turns to Robby. The two of them alone.
Jack is alone in Trauma 2.
All he has is his breath.
In for 4
Hold for 7
Out for 8
Repeat
Robby fortifies himself and pushes through the door.
Jackâs right hand clutches a plastic hospital bag of womenâs clothing.
He turns and looks at Robby.
Robby has seen this before.
Mike has seen Jack here before.
âJackââÂ
âJack? Jack Abbot?â
The air is sucked out of the waiting room.
What happens next is a blur.
They try to take Jack alone.
He grabs Robby by the arm. He needs him.
Theyâre brought back into a private room.
They both know what this means.
They did everything they couldâ
Her injuries were too extensiveâ
Blood lossâ
Too muchâ
They did everything they could.
They hand Jack a plastic bag of her clothing.
Her keys.
Her ID she always made sure to carry, just in case.
Her flashlight, just like he told her to bring.
Her engagement ring.
Her wedding ring.Â
Jack lets out a cry like Robby has never heard.
Robby fights off the beginning of a panic attack.
Not now. Itâs not his turn.
The doctor leaves the room.Robby puts a hand on Jackâs shoulder.
Jack brushes him off.
âDonât touch me.â
âOkayâokay. Sorry. Iâm sorry.âÂ
âJust stop, man. Stop.âÂ
âJack. I knowââ
âYou donât know. I shouldâve been at home tonight.â
âHey, Jack. Donât. Donât do that, man. You knowââ
âYou begged me to come with you, Mike. Maybe if I was home with her like I wanted to be, she wouldnât have gone running andââÂ
âWoah, Jack. Hey, man this is notââ Robby chokes back his tears. âThis isnât my fault.â His voice breaks. âYouâre in shock.â
Jack drops the bag and grabs Robby by his shirt, pushing him up against the wall.Â
âOkay, Jack. I got it. Loud and clear, brother.â Robby puts his hands up in defeat.
Jack releases Robby in a huff and collapses down on a chair in the corner of the room.Â
âIâI donât know how to exist without her.
I never get to touch her again?
Feel her hand in mine?
Kiss her?
Hear her laugh?â
No more symphonies. No more sonnets. No more soliloquies.Â
âSheâs justâsheâs gone?â
âSheâs gone.â Their voices echo and tangle in dissonant harmony.
Thereâs a long silence between the two men as they both search for words.
âWhen?â Jack whispers.
âPretty soon after they got her up there. Her injuries were too severe. Thatâs her stuff?â
âThey brought it down to Dana. Husband is on the way.â Jackâs voice is broken.
âDoes he know?âÂ
âI donât think so.âÂ
âYou want me to tell him?â
âIâll do it. It should be me.â
âBaby, babyâŚ. my love. This was supposed to be me, remember? Not you. Not you, baby. We talked about this. So long ago. It was supposed to be my headstone. You and Robby wailing all night at my headstone, remember? Not like this. Not me here without you. How am I supposed to go on without you?âÂ
Itâs the middle of the night.
Robby slowly approaches Jack who is drunkenly kneeling at her grave.
Slurring out words of affection. Begging to switch places.
Now living on borrowed time. Â
Robby doesnât know how long Jack has been out here.
âJack.â
âMichael.â
Robby sits down next to him, grabs the bottle of bourbon heâs clinging to and takes a swig. He wraps one arm around Jackâs shoulders, pulling his best friend into his chest.
Jack lets out a muffled sob, grasping at Robbyâs shirt.
âHelp me. Please. I donât wanna feelâMike, help me.â
âLet me take you home, brother.â
âShe is my home. Iââ
âDonât you ever go home?â Dana sighs, threading her arms through the sleeves of her jacket.
âWas about to ask you the same thing.â Robby rubs the back of his neck. He gives her a tired smile.
âHe okay?â
âHe will be.âÂ
âAlright, donât torture yourself. Try to get outta here, will ya?â She heads towards the exit.
âIâm right behind you."
Robby grabs his backpack and jacket which he stashed at the Hub earlier, when he was a more hopeful man looking for a quick escape.
The door to Trauma 1 swings open behind him. Robby hears Mateoâs voice.
âDr. RobbyâAbbotâs asking for you.âÂ
He turns over his shoulder and makes eye contact with Jack.Â
âMichael,â he says, nodding and motioning Robby towards him. âNeed an extra set of hands in here.âÂ
Robby drops his bag and jacket back in the same location he stashed them before. He activates the hand sanitizer, quietly counting the passes over his skin. Grounding himself in the chaos. He pushes through the door.Â
âWhat do we got, brother?â
Thanks for loving these sad boys as much as we do.

jack x reader first date, jack's a perfect gentleman but you're a flirt and end up making out and grinding in his car? <3
This was so delicious that what turned out as a blurb became so, so long. I massaged the idea a bit, and this is not proofread, but I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed imagining a first date with Jack <3
First dates always make you a nervous wreck. The nerves of meeting someone new and being alone with them, wondering if your personalities will mesh, wondering if they're only after hooking up and not a genuine connection. It was all enough to just not bother with it most of the time. So when a mutual friend said she had someone to set you up with, it was initially a resounding, "no thank you." But the more she told you about him, the more you felt it was a safe bet for at least a nice evening out. An ER physician, night shift attending even... Single for quite a while, a widower, no kids. Charming, intelligent, funny, kind... you had certainly gone on dates with worse types. She told you he was quite a bit older than you, late 40s / early 50s. But that just intrigued you more. The men in your age group that remained in the dating pool left much to be desired. And the good ones were few and far in between, if they didn't just end up being your friends. A more comfortable, safer option, you supposed, than an inevitable romantic heartbreak to crush and reform your heart into a more hardened thing. But having been months, maybe even years since your last real *date,* you took her offer graciously and braced for some kind of disappointment. A snide comment, lack of personality, lack of interest in you other than the physical, something... You waited for the other shoe to drop. But it never did.
He was a pleasant mix of classic and modern. Classic in all the ways that mattered. Polite, kind, he opened doors for you, of course took care of the bill. Modern in the ways that he listened to you, and not just listening to respond with his own completely unrelated thoughts. Listening, asking questions, always meeting your eyes or scanning your body language, quickly joining in on little bits you'd pull mid-conversation to keep any awkwardness at bay or when you felt you were being too vulnerable with someone you just met. He'd fall right into step beside you conversationally. It felt easy. Finally, it felt easy with someone.
You realized this thought when you were walking out of the restaurant and onto a nearly deserted city sidewalk. A few late-night passerby, an occasional car rolling along. But even after the dinner ended, the conversation didn't. You walked in close step to each other, his hands respectfully in his pockets and yours gripping the handles of your purse.
He stopped you both under a street light as he finished telling a story about a recent dispute with the hospital admin he has to deal with. You laugh at his fierce commentary on the bureaucracy of healthcare, not what he says but the way he says it. Like it's coming from a place carved out deep within his soul, "it's true! We're down there in the trenches every night! From people in and outside of the hospital." He takes in a deep breath as if to swallow what he actually wanted to say and shakes his head, not wanting to scare you off too fast at his intensity for his work. But he noticed a slight change of your expression. The sight of his truck parked a few feet away on the street made you almost sad that this wonderful, refreshing series of moments had to come to an end. He notices your look and your eyes shifting from him to his truck, back to him. Thinking that you're looking for an escape route, he asks, "Everything okay?" A small smile creeping up on his cheeks. "Didn't scare you off with all that did I?" You snap back to attention and meet his eyes, now seeing a bloom of hesitancy in them. "no! God no." He nods his head affirmingly, "why the long face then? Something I said?" A small laugh huffs out of you. He had been the most perfect gentleman all night. "No, no not at all." You meet his eyes, now crinkled at the corners with a smirk he's barely trying to contain. "Quite the opposite actually. I've... I've had a really nice time with you tonight, Jack."
The smile meets his eyes now, the warm green of them almost sparkling in the streetlights in a way that makes your stomach feel full of fluttering opalescent butterfly wings. "I have too. It's been, a while... for me." He looks down at the concrete for a moment as if to gather his words, muster some courage, then back up at you. "Thank you, truly," his hand slips out of his pocket to reach for yours, taking your fingers to gently rest on his palm, respectfully testing the waters before your own hand meshes with his and his shoulders relax a little, "for a wonderful evening." You both give each other's hand a gentle squeeze, securing the contact and allowing it to linger for as long as you both will let it. There's no expectancy. No urgency. Just two souls who happened to cross paths, join hands, and begin a long, slow dance together.
You finally reply, "no, thank you. I haven't had a night like this in... god, I really can't remember when." You look down at your joined hands, noticing how his skin was freckled and toughened with his years, but still felt so warm and gentle against your own. You felt secure in his hold. Both in his grip, and in the feeling that this wasn't just a connection that was going to dissipate into the night air like so many others. Something that you finally want to take a chance on. You both seem to look up right at the same time, mouths open about to say something to the other. He sees it too and catches himself, "you first, please" "no you! Sorry, I- you go..." those crinkles appear again next to his eyes and a fondness starts to settle in your chest for the sight of them. Then suddenly you feel a lot smaller. A lot closer to him. Like your energies were just bumping against each other, fizzling and sparkling in the warm summer breeze that swept down the street, now about to cross over completely into each other's territory. Into the unknown world of the person standing before them. His other hand still in his pocket, restraining himself from the pull of your orbit. He runs a heavy thumb over the back of your soft hand takes the leap he had been wanting to make since he first laid eyes on you tonight, "can I... may I kiss you? Would that be okay?"
His genuine request for permission cracks something in you, something fragile that you've kept protected for too long. "Yes, more than okay, please..." Your free hand finds his other arm now, wanting to tug it out of his pocket and wrap it around your middle. He beats you to it though, bringing his other hand up to your face so gently, fingers resting on your neck just under your ear and thumb softly pressing in to the swell of your cheek. He takes a step closer, closing the distance between your bodies in the already intimate space you've carved out for yourselves. Tilting his head down, you can finally brush noses with him, then his lips fall upon yours, the warm weight of his hands grounding you to the earth as the fluttering inside you threatened to carry you away. His scent, while more than pleasant before, engulfs your senses. So masculine and deep and somehow comforting in a way that has you pulling him in closer. Your free hand comes up to lay on his chest, feeling the firm, solid muscle underneath his shirt. Holding each other now, the first tentative brushes of lips turn into firm, confident movements. Tongues beginning to lave and roll against each other, lips being sucked between teeth, a quiet rumbling frenzy starting to build between the two of you. You feel it and are the first to pull away, not at all wanting to break the contact, but needing confirmation that he felt it too. He did, and almost whimpered when you pulled away. Your sweet smell, the feel of you becoming soft and pliant in his arms, the way you touched him. He didn't realize he was starving for it. To be touched like this. To be wanted. To want.
And that is exactly how you ended up in front of your place, in the backseat of his truck, straddling his lap. You didn't want to get out, and he didn't want to see you leave. He even took the long way back to your neighborhood just to hear more of your stories. Continue to hold your hand and stroke the back of your knuckles as he drove. So when he pulled up and parked, and you kept making glances to the back seat between more sweet kisses over the center console, he finally gave in. Fell over whatever precipice he kept himself back from since the first kiss under the streetlight, and let you have him. Let you take what you wanted, what you needed, and tried to reciprocate his gratefulness to you in his own movements. A song hummed low through the speakers and your hips moved with its slow beat. Both still fully clothed, a few buttons of his shirt undone to expose his flushed, freckled chest to you, and your shirt ridden up just enough so he can grasp at the warm skin of your lower back. He was so warm, so solid beneath you. His heavy hands felt like they were everywhere. From your hips, sweeping up the curve of them and settling into the crook of your waist, until that was no longer enough and he needed one pressed to your back holding you to him while the other firmly gripped a handful of your ass. He kissed you deeply, feverishly, and you allowed him to lead the pace. You hadn't planned to go this far on the first date, but after your lips met for the first time and you both went into that floaty place that pleasure reigned, all pretenses were dropped. And the more he moaned into your mouth, sucked against the soft skin of your neck, the more his hands explored you, the more you became like putty in his hands. No amount of contact was enough.
But time marched on, and it was admittedly getting late. You had to work the next day, and as much as it pained you, you wanted time to yourself to process all of this. Commit it to memory even, how your world might have just changed with one good date. You sat yourself up straight, relishing in one last deep kiss and him in the feeling of your fingers in his hair. He held you there softly, letting you decide when it was done. When you broke away a giggle fell from your lips at how ridiculously perfect this all had been. He grinned and squeezed your ass gently in response, asking, "what's got you gigglin' sweetheart?" A giggle bubbles out of his own chest at the ease with which that rolled off his tongue. Sweetheart. How long had it been since he called someone that earnestly? Since he meant it? Since he had something this sweet in his life. You leaned back and shook your hair out, letting it fall back around your shoulders more messy than before thanks to his touches. You tried to gather your words as much as you could, "I just honestly did not anticipate... this." You motioned between the two of you, "I could never have anticipated liking you this much after one date." He really smiles now, both at your honesty and at the way it makes him feel. "Yeah, neither could I." He tucks your hair behind your ear on one side, holds your face so gently in his hand, and looks deep into your eyes. He means it. He wants this, and he's going to let himself have it. Whatever this is with you. You have half a thought to turn and look at the clock on the dashboard, it's now well past midnight and closing in on 1am. You sigh deeply and turn back to him, nearly pouting. He has you in the back of his truck, on his lap, pouting. You're doomed, you think.
"I suppose I should walk you up now, I've got you out too late as it is." He punctuates his sentence with a kiss. Not deep this time, but soft, tender, like he doesn't mean what he's saying in the slightest. "I'd like that very much." You both gather yourselves, adjusting clothes and fixing hair. When you move off of his lap, he immediately feels empty even though you're right next to him. He watches you get your things together, wanting to remember all the little details for when he thinks about tonight until he can see you again. Remembers your rings, the color of your nails, the way your eyes became heavy lidded, and how good it feels to have you next to him. When you're ready, he opens the door and slides out, offering a hand to help steady you as you did the same. You lead him up your front steps to your door as you search for your keys and when you're there, you turn to face him. "Thank you again, for everything tonight. I'd really like to see you again, Jack." You step toward him and reach out a hand to cup his jaw, feeling the maintained silver scruff there and wondering, briefly, how it would feel on your inner thighs. He holds your forearm gently as you both lean in for the goodnight kiss. The softness of this moment, of his touch, nearly overwhelms you. He breaks away first, brushing his nose against yours as if to say "it's okay, don't worry, we'll do this again soon." He doesn't step back, but he says on to your lips, "call me tomorrow, okay?" And you nod. It's almost all you can do. You push your key into the lock and turn it, turning back one more time to see that face that you don't think you can go without anymore. "Goodnight Jack."

In theory, it was a great idea. A home gym made perfect sense. It means Jack no longer has to waste time commuting to and from the gym. After working out he can wash off immediately in the comfort of his own shower equipped with all the amenities he needs. He loves it, and you're happy that he does.
In practice, it has proven to be a severe and continuous test of your will powerâa distraction like none other you've had to endure before.
Truly, you brought this upon yourself when you suggested putting the gym in the same room as your office. It was a big enough space that often went under utilized otherwise. What you didn't take into account is the fact that you would have to deal with your incredibly attractive and handsome Jackie using said gym while you work.
Working from home is usually a blessing. With Jack's unordinary work schedule it allows for flexibility you normally wouldn't have. You can't be more grateful for all the extra time you get to spend with him. But you're also human, and there's only so much you can handle when it comes to your husband's hot and sweaty visage.
Your eyes flick up, peering across the room from over the top of your monitor. Jack is finishing his final set, and you seize the opportunity to eye him up for the umpteenth time. His silver curls have gone damp, flattened at the crown. A few strands are plastered at his temples and the springy curls at the nape of his neck cling to his skin. His shirt cleaves to his torso, the fabric darkened at the pits. You swallow hard. A thin sheen of sweat glistens across a his skin, providing a canvas for sunlight to sketch a golden outline around him. He looks heavenly, and he's all yoursâor he could be if you hadn't let the deadlines pile up.
A frown tugs the corners of your lips downwards. Your gaze returns to the screen in front of you. It's a little embarrassing that you've let something like this affect your work so much. Just as your hands return to your keyboard, Jack ambles over. You perk up a little as he leans down to press a kiss to your forehead, murmuring something about lunch, but it's in one ear and out the other. You can feel the heat radiating off him. His scent floods your senses, and your thighs shift in your chair, pressing together. Fuck. Your body slopes nearer, chasing closeness where he's managed to barely slip away.
"Hon?" You blink and you're dragged back down to this plane of existence. "Everything okay? I asked if you wanted lunch."
"Yeahâyes, just trying to catch up on some deadlines," you nod towards the screen, but as you speak you can practically feel his suspicions growing. He gives you a once over, brows furrowing before smoothing over. A chuckle rumbles from his throat and that's how you know that he's clued into what exactly is afflicting you.
His gaze darkens, lids slanting heavier over his eyes as he regards you with a maddeningly smug look. What a predicament it is to be inâto have Jack Abbot aware that he's got you wrapped around his finger. Though something tells you the depths of your perversions haven't quite been fully realized. How every cell in your body is urging you to submerge yourself in himâin his scentâto burrow under his arm and live there for a little while, or an eternity if the constraints of reality would allow.
"Why don't I go shower then we can pick this back up after?"
"No!" The word bursts from you and you're helpless to stop it. It's followed up by a meek correction. "Don't please."
You think over your next words with more care this time around, determined to stop making such a fool of yourself. It's just Jack, your loving husband⌠who also happens to love poking fun and teasing you endlessly over anything and everything, your brain inopportunely reminds you.
Your voice surfaces even quieter this time. "I like how you are⌠right now."
Constantly stealing his clothes and wearing his unwashed hoodies is one thing. That is a hurdle you've long since gotten over. Wanting to taste the sweat off his skin and bury yourself into every crevice of his body is something entirely differentâdefinitely not something you're raring to admit to your menace of a husband.
"All gross and sweaty?" He asks with an arched eyebrow.
"S'not gross, you smellâŚ" Divine, delicious, aphrodisiacal, like sinful temptation itself. You settle for something less assuming in an attempt to preserve your image that he seems keen on tarnishing with all his teasing. "Nice."
Jack towers over you for a moment longerâall corded in muscles still pumped from his workout. It makes his shirt look a size too small around his swollen biceps. Then he grabs you and pulls you up from your chair before swapping places with you.
The chair creaks as he settles. It leaves him looking up at you, but somehow you still feel small under the weight of his undivided attention. His thick thighs part until they tap against the arm rests. He's offering himself up to you. You accept eagerly, bringing yourself over one of his thighs. A hand slides along his arm, mapping out the veins that traverse all the way up the freckled length of it. Your fingers skate the edge of his sleeve, and two slip beneath the fabric, inching closer to the summit of their hike.
"Nice?" He tilts his head. The single syllable stops you in your tracks. Your lip quivers, and you chance a look at him. He's leaned back against the back of the chair, relaxed, hazel eyes assessing you. His hands are braced on the armrests, fingers twitchingâitching to reach out and lay themselves on you but he doesn't move them. He's lying in wait, watching you dig yourself deeper and deeper until you have no choice but to outright admit what you want. Your every filthy desire.
And dug a hole you have. Fuck it.
"Yes, so niceâŚ" you purr, tipping forward to bring your head to the crook of his neck. You fist at his t-shirt as you leave a smattering of kisses along his skin and over his clothed shoulder.
"Didn't know my wife was such a pervert," he mutters. You should feel mortified by the comment, but it sends a pleasant shiver down your spine. The tip of your nose brushes right over the crease of his armpit. His scent is most potent there but still obscured by cotton. "Yeah, you like daddy's scent? Is that it?"
That makes your eyes shutter closed and roll behind their lids. Your clit pulses between your legs like it's got a heartbeat of its own.
"MhmâŚ!" You can only manage a stifled sound before he's shuffling beneath you, the muscle of his thigh flexing where you're slotted over him. He loses his shirt quickly, peeling it from his sweaty chest and tossing it somewhere on the floor.
"You aren't very subtle, sweetheart." His arm lifts, and he cups the back of his head baring his armpit to you. You salivate at the sight, wide eyes slashing between his gaze and the current epicenter of your desire. At first, you're hesitant despite the encouragement.
"Go on, you're practically drooling," he says, "bet your cunt's drooling too."
It wouldn't take much to prove his words right. Only a couple of thick fingers tucking themselves into your pants, but there's no need. You're sure he can feel the damp heat of you over his leg. Reluctance falls apart at the seams, and you move closer, inch by inch. Except, you don't start where he expects.
As avid as you are, you begin elsewhereâat his stomach, where a slight pudge pours over the waistband of his shorts. Warm flesh dimples as you knead at it. His skin is tacky from a layer of cooling sweat. Your lips descend as your hands climb up, up, up, racking over his ribs then crawling around to cup his pecs. Languidly, you drag your lips down the wide column of his throat, feeling his Adam's apple bob.
"You smell so good..." you murmur. Along the way, you pepper kisses over his sternum, moving closer and closer toâa small, throaty sound ruptures his bout of silence, pulled from him when your lips close around his nipple, tongue flicking gently. Eventually, your patience begins to wear thin like flame whittles a candle wick.
And once it's all burnt up, you're moving fast, advancing on the place you've been pining after this whole time. Your face comes to rest against the shallow divot of his armpit. All it takes is one deep inhale and you're already lightheadedâdrunk off his scent. There's a subtly sweet undertone. Musk and honey and sandalwood and him. Maybe you're so out of it that you are hallucinating it all. Either way, it is intoxicating, it is addicting, and it makes you fucking feral.
You nose at him. The thatch of hair there tickles your skin. It's as if this little hollow was carved into your mountain of a man for the express purpose of being the perfect cradle for your face. Sweat has gathered there in excess. Dewdrops beaded along warm skin. Your tongue rolls out and you run it flat over the curve of his underarm. Salt and tang bursts on your taste buds.
Underneath you, his knee jumps. It jolts you and rattles a muffled moan from your lips. Nipping lightly, you draw a muttered curse from him, low and raspy. In response, he grabs a handful of your ass and hauls you closer, dragging your clothed cunt over his leg. You slide back and he pulls you close again. It starts as a sluggish back and forth motion, like the ebb and flow of the tide coming in and out, but it escalates.
Sensation is dulled by the layers between you and your movements turn franticâa desperate, stuttered rutting as you bring your clit up and down his meaty thigh, mewling open mouthed into his sweaty armpit each time the swollen bud catches on the fabric of his shorts.
"Shitâyou close, baby?" He rasps above you, your frenzied movements giving you away. You nod against him and he helps as best he can, grappling at your waist and guiding your movements again. Up. You're closer. Down. Nearly there justâup again. You shudder.
It's pure ecstasy. Stars erupt behind your eyelids. Every nerve from the top of your head down to the tips of your toes igniting all at once. Your movements falter and your mouth falls open, face nesting further into the concave of his underarm. You drown yourself in his scent as your cunt clenches around nothing, throbbing helplessly as you come to a standstill over his thigh.
His large hand smoothes over your side, stopping to pinch at your hip. "You're fuckin' filthy," he huffs. It's completely hypocritical.
"You're one to talk," you say, reluctantly pulling your face away just to speak. You can bet good money he's hard as a rock right now. In factâyour hand slithers between you, and sure enough. A groan threatens to bubble up but he bites it back.
"Yeah? How long have you been fantasizing about this?" He grinds out while you continue to palm him through his shorts. The answer to that question is far more incriminating than you'd like it to be, but before you can even attempt to save face, he's interrogating you further. "This why you moved me in here, for your own personal show?"
"You are much, much more attractive when you aren't talking."
Jack laughs at that. He doesn't believe you for a second, but he takes the hint and doesn't press further on that front. Smart man. "You had your fill, dirty girl, or have I yet to earn your permission to go shower?"
"Hm⌠" you hum, pretending to think it over, "only if you extend an invite."
"That was the plan," he remarks, jutting his hips up and pressing his erection into your touch for emphasis.
After a summer day spent in the pool with Pope and his brothers, the two of you finally cuddle-up on the couch, enjoying the now quiet house. Craig and Deran went out to the bar an hour ago and J (FUCK J) grabbed his bike and sped off to god knows where.Â
Popeâs body is freckled, slightly red, and warm from the summer sun. Heâs wearing some gym shorts and a tank top, freshly showered, his curls still damp. Youâre in a tank top and a pair of Popeâs boxers - your go-to relax-with-your-man clothes.Â
Itâs your turn to pick the movie. Pope feigns disappointment at your choice but you know he secretly loves watching a classic romantic movie with you. He lowkey loves when you get all sentimental and gooey, when you snuggle into him and plant little kisses on his hand or cheek, when you mindlessly run your fingertips over his skin, when he can see your silly grin reflected back at him on the TV.Â
Popeâs never seen this movie before and when it gets to the big dance scene between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, you hear him scoff a little under his breath, not meant for your ears. âWhatâs the big deal? I could do thatâŚâÂ
âWhat?âÂ
âNothing, babe. Sorry,â he gives your leg a squeeze.Â
You pause the movie. Â
âNo, no. I think I heard my cocky boyfriend making a claim Iâm not sure he can back up.âÂ
Pope turns to you, eyebrows raised.Â
âOh? Youâyou donât think I could do that? You donât think Iâm strong enough?â He tsks. âI could totally lift you up like that. Easy.âÂ
âProve it.âÂ
âWhat?âÂ
âYou heard me. Prove it, Andrew. Letâs do it. Letâs do the lift.âÂ
Andrew 'Pope' Cody is not one to back down from a challenge. Especially from his sweet but stubborn girlfriend.Â
He sighs, âAlright. Okay. Yah. Iâll prove it⌠letâs go, babe. You and me.âÂ
You rewind the movie, syncing it up to the exact moment that Baby starts to run towards Johnny. Handing the remote off to Pope, you head towards the end of the hallway. He swiftly peels off his tank top in one motion, his muscular chest and arms now unhindered in their readiness to catch you.Â
Gathering your breath and shaking off some nerves, you look at his determined eyes and nod your head. He presses play on the remote and you hear the familiar music start. You take one more breath and take off in a run towards your man. Mirroring the action on the screen you fling your body into Popeâs stable arms as he grabs you by the hips and pushes you up into the air, your arms open, your legs straight out behind you. He holds you up for a few more moments before you start to giggle and tap his hand to bring you down.Â
Pope slowly lowers you, keeping you pressed against him. The hem of your tank top bunches up as you slide down his body, the direct skin on skin contact sending electricity through you. Your feet find the ground a little unsteady as you try to catch your breath. You can feel your heartbeat in your ears as you look up at his smug but love filled face.Â
âTold you.â He kisses your nose, then your cheek, then leans down to plant a sweet kiss on your lips. You reward him by deepening the kiss, sliding your tongue into his mouth. He scoops you up into his arms, your legs wrap around his waist and he carries you into the bedroom, the movie still playing on the TV, the credits rolling.Â
This could be loveâ
Becauseâ
Iâve had the time of my lifeâ
No, I never felt this way beforeâ
Yes, I swear, itâs the truthâ
And I owe it all to you. Â

youâre not thinking at allâ
you havenât been since andrew buried his face between your thighs and made you cum twice just because he missed you while he was âworking.â that was the beginning of the end. youâre barely coherent as he maneuvers you onto your tummy before pulling your hips back to meet his, propping you up on your knees so he can slip his thick cock inside easy. youâre too messy for there to be any true struggle, but the reminder of how well he completes you always snatches the air from your lungs before you can get yourself to breathe through it.
clawing at the bed, you prepare yourself for him to move. the first thrust has you burying your face in his crisp sheets and whimpering, especially when he leans over you with a hand on either side of your dizzy head. the sound of his heated skin meeting yours is lewd, it makes your ears burn. your toes are already curling as he groans over you, feeling your soft cunt trying to milk him dry without even meaning to. one hand comes to grab your jaw, holding your head up to keep you from suffocating yourself in your state. heâs always amazed by how much he can break you down. youâve always been a sensitive girl but when he has you like this, itâs a whole different level âŚ
you babble, each movement knocking a few dumb hiccupy sounds and syllables out of you, âandrew, andrewâ sâgoodâ feels sâgood, daddy.â
his heart stops. heâs too greedy to fully halt the rythym of his hips, but it comes to a slow grind that keeps you right where you need to be. blissed out and desperate. that word falling from your glossy lips was the last thing he expected. he didnât know you had it in you to be so perverted. it forces him wonder how long youâve wanted to claim him as your daddy. he nuzzles his face against the side of your own, feeling your supple skin and the shared heat between you two, âwhat did you just call me, baby? where did that come from, hm?â
you only whine in response, too gone to register what youâve started. you lift your hips up in an effort to get more from him, pressing your ass against his hips and attempting to fuck yourself back on him. a groan claws up his throat, raw and raspy. and suddenly heâs pounding you into the sheets, still keeping your pretty face in his grip. you huff out little breaths against his thumb only to have the digit stuffed in your mouth, effectively muffling your squeals and sweet moans.
âi know, i know. donât worry about it, shouldâve known you were too fucked up to speakâ let daddy do all the work, baby girl.â
