I have always liked the idea of making Nellie her own versions of some of Samantha’s outfits, so I spent the last few days making Nellie her own Meet Samantha dress.

i imagine that if Lindsey had a larger collection, she would have something similar to what she wore in her book illustrations. Lindsey's story was one of my favorites as a kid. She's always been my favorite Girl of the Year and finding the doll secondhand so many years later was an absolute dream come true. ❤️

My second major sewing project—from about 2 months ago—was recreating the dress from one of my favorite movies: Pearl (2022).

I used the Pleasant Company pattern for Samantha's lacy pinafore dress (dress part only) as a base since I thought it had a similar shape to Pearl’s dress. The only changes I made to the pattern (besides not adding lace to the sleeves) were:

Layering and sewing some red lace to the bodice front before sewing the dress together

Adding lace to the neckband using the instructions from the Pleasant Company pattern for Samantha's party dress

Cutting an additional (5x52") rectangle of fabric, gathering one edge, and attaching it to the bottom of the skirt

Cutting about 30" of red ribbon and tying it around the waist

Borrowing the hair ribbon from Nellie’s meet outfit to complete the look

and we all know i love grandmary as she is in books! but who was she prior to the death of her husband, her child, and at least one close friend (looking at you, unnamed first wife of admiral beemis)? what kind of dreams did she have for her life? quite literally, who was mary before she became mrs. edwards and took on all the grief and anxiety that came from her married family life?
