In vedic astrology, darakaraka is the planet with the lowest degree in Horoscope. It represents the spouse/life partner that you attract. In my opinion, I think it can also represents what kind of friends/people you attract in your life.

People who have Mercury DK tends to attract people who has nakshatras with the lord of Mercury (ashlesha, revati, jyeshtha) in their chart especially in the big 3 (sun, moon, ascendant). They could also attract people who has Mercury in the 1st house. What this indicates is they attract people which are fond of expressing themselves by talking & teaches them to talk more freely. Communication is a big role here.
