Many times pet owners have to make the choice between the convenience of an automatic litter box and daily cleaning, or a manual litter box that will have the odor under control but will create alot of work for yourself. There is however a way you can have the best of both worlds and that is by having a dog proof litter box, one that will not only keep your dog from getting in, but also one that will be easier for you to clean and maintain. The first time I came across this concept was several years ago when I discovered a kitty litter box with a dog door as opposed to a cat door. This got me thinking along these lines and since then, I've looked into different dog proof litter boxes on the market. Below are my recommendations for the best pet products out there when it comes to protecting your pets while providing yourself with an easy way to clean and maintain one of these boxes.-These litter box solutions can help keep your dog out of the cat's litter boxMost dogs have been trained using Positive Reinforcement Dog Training. The same methods can be used to train your dog to stay out of your cat's litter box.This is how I do it. I will show you how to prevent your dog from going into your cat's litterbox:1) Get some kind of a crate/kennel for your dog (I use a large plastic storage container).2) Put a large piece of carpet or blanket in the bottom.3) Put a smaller container inside the larger one, so that the top edge is even with the top edge of the larger container.4) Put another piece of carpet or blanket on top. I find that putting a towel over it is enough to make my dogs forget they are there (you might want to put something underneath too, depending on what type of container you use and how big it is).5) Put something on top of the towels, but not heavy enough that your dog couldn't move it if he wanted to - like bricks or something similar (get creative).
