wild that we taught dogs the concept of pointing - of being a pointer, and of understanding when another is pointing. “don’t look at my hand, look at what my hand is showing you.” what a complicated concept! great job, dogs

Hi, all. I hate to be in this situation, but if you wouldn’t mind to spare a moment of your time to read this, and consider donating, I would be forever grateful. If you’re in the same shape I’m in money wise, please feel no guilt, but consider sharing this if you would like.
Astrid means the absolute world to me, I am heartbroken to be in this situation, I did my job to prevent it, but likely her previous owners screwed her over once again. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to even read this. If you do decide to donate, I’ll gladly make a cute Astrid picture/video or something else if you would like. As soon as I’m able to do so, I’d also love to send a picture personal thank you from the loud lady herself to you.

do we have to go in? can we stay outside in the snow forever please?
I need to follow more Dogblr people!
Reblog if you post anything related to the following:
Dog Sports (Any dogsports but I’m big into Flyball, Disc dog, Agility and Schutzhund)
Dog Health/Behaviour
Belgian Malinois
Basically if there’s a lot of dogs on your blog, reblog because I wanna follow you.
ipo and mondio here with some discussions of health/behavior/training. Mostly detailing my life with my dobe.
We do a variety of sports as well. :) You’ll probably see mostly bitework, but I also do dock jumping, obedience, pretty much whatever we can get access to.
Do y’all ever have times where you just feel like the worst trainer ever? This is two dogs in a row now that I feel like I’m just failing with. Logically I know Bella (foster) was just too much for a multi-dog home and I couldn’t give her the focus she needed and i know Sandy (foster) is the same. She is sooo high-energy and she needs so much help focusing and really intense training and I just can’t give it to her with 5 other dogs. It feels like I’m failing though and just a terrible trainer. I just keep getting so frustrated with her lack of focus and her explosiveness around other dogs. Seriously if I don’t repeat her name every four seconds to get her to look at me she will completely lose her focus and then end up just exploding either to rush another dog or to run to the grass at full speed and drag me along. I just can’t keep up and I feel terrible for it. Please tell me y’all have dealt with this too?

As a trainer, what's your opinion of the luring vs capturing debate? Is luring actually training? Does it dumb down dogs?
I really don’t have a strong opinion either way. I think both have their strengths and their faults. With luring I feel like you can get the desired behavior to happen quicker so you can enforce it, but I do think it isn’t as effective of an enforcement so it takes a little longer for the dog to really understand what you want. Where capturing can take longer to make the behavior happen, but I think the connection of behavior=praise/treat/whatever happens faster. That is just in my personal experience working with my dogs.It really depends on the dog though. Owen does great with a lure, and so does Arya and Sandy. Tjeajte doesn’t seem to get it at all. I spent a good two weeks luring her into sit and she just wasn’t getting it. Tried capturing and she is starting to understand it within like half an hour.Anything that teaches and reinforces a behavior is training really. I don’t think one is really better than the other, it just depends on the trainer and the dog they are working with.
quick! name your favorite summer memory of your pet(s)
ohshitohshitohshit that is hard!I guess I could be a total nerd and say the day I brought Owen home! It was just a bit before my birthday, so smack dab in the middle of summer. He seemed big as a pup (well, a 5 month old) but looking back he was so small. He was really nervous too in the car. I fed him french fries most of the way until he fell asleep.
