my friend the tiger (work in progress)
hello friends ! i’ve been away for a bit so wanted to reintroduce myself for anyone new. i’m cerian, a 19yo art student living in the netherlands. i love coloured markers, bright colours and pineapple !! come and say hi sometime !
I'm currently studying art & design at A-Level and it's super stressful because my teacher isn't really that organised!! :( your work is really inspiring, so could you give some tips on how to do well in the personal investigation? Thank you so much!
Hey! Disorganised teachers are the worst but stay confident in your own abilities, just means you have to work harder yourself (which is totally doable ❤️)The trick to the personal investigation is to work on something you are truly interested in. Because of how long the project is, you need a theme that will really keep you going! If it’s something you want to do, the chances are you’re actually better at it too (putting your heart into things gets good results!)Choose something you have access to a lot of resources for, if you’re doing a project on marine life and live in the country you’ll struggle. Stay positive and focused, get those sketchbook pages filled up!

you are amazing!
thanks!!! you are fab too!!
Hello. I saw some of your work for As and I was hoping to know how you select a topic for your art coursework. I'd be giving mine at the end of the year and I have no clue at all. Thank you
Hey! Not certain if you mean in terms of the topic choices they give you or where to go from that so I’ll answer both as best as I can. When I get that little booklet thingy full of titles for the project the first thing I do is make a big mindanao of all of them with ideas to see what fits my work best. The most common result is that one topic will have significantly more ideas which is normally the one I go with! Once I’ve decided which of the topics I should go for I choose a theme to work around or a direction to go in based on a few different bits. Your past work and what you know you can do well should always be a starting point. If architectural models are your thing heck go for that! Textile design? Make it work! Some other important factors to think about are areas you haven’t really explored yet. My A2 project title was “translucent” because I really wanted to do something with marine life as I’d never been down that route. The more you love your theme and your work, the more you’ll want to spend time on it and normally that provides the best outcome. Work hard and be brilliant, I hope your project goes super well! ✨

tips for life drawing !!
a few (hopefully) useful pointers for life/ figure drawing which is an essential part of attending an artistic university course. if you have any of your own tips to share please repost this and add your own points!
sketch something random everyday. it could be a peach, a chair, your cat or even a tin can. really it doesn’t matter what it is but drawing every day is the quickest way to improve your skills
with regards to people, start by sketching a wooden mannequin at home to practice proportions. by getting good at this, real people are much easier to size up!
use a variety of materials in classes. pencil can often be too detailed for a life drawing lesson when you may only have 10 minutes per pose. charcoal is a popular choice but personally i enjoy using thick markers to get shapes quickly down onto paper
forget what you’re drawing. focus on each limb as a different shape rather than an arm or leg. by over thinking what an arm looks like you make it harder to draw what you really see and instead will end up working from your mind
starting is scary and failure is in a lot of ways inevitable but that is the point. Drawing a person is difficult and the only way to make it less so is to produce a lot of sketches which aren’t quite right and learn from those mistakes. it’s the same principle as learning a new language or riding a bike, you have to push through the clingy starting points to get the end result. you will get there if you keep at it
