â I want to see your heart, â¨Not just a part of it,⨠but the entire complexity.⨠I want to know your monsters.⨠Not just the angelic side, but the entire gashed soul. â
NAME: Dorcas Clara Meadowes
BIRTHDATE: August 28, 1959
Dorcas Meadowes was born with stars in her eyes and a tornado in her heart, and she had a passion in her that could hardly be extinguished. The Meadowes name has for centuries been a prominent one in the wizarding world and categorized with the pure blood elite, however Dorcasâ family never let their rules dictate the way they lived their lives which quickly painted a target on their back. The Meadows family has never been the kind to give into pureblood pressures, hold strong prejudices, or keep up with the rules of the pureblood social circle, which may be the reason behind them rapidly falling down the pureblood social ladder. The Meadowesâ may have different opinions on how to live their lives, but that doesn't make them any less rich or powerful than those who look down upon them. Leonard and Estella Meadowes' marriage may not have been a social disgrace but they have always had a more openminded and kindhearted approach to life, and raised their children as such. Dorcas grew up in a loving household full of laughter of smiles and she swears that she was blessed with the best parents in the world. Dorcasâ mother, Estella, was a Burke by birth, but she was raised with good intentions and a kind hearted approach to life despite her position in the sacred twenty eight. Despite obvious differences in lifestyle choices her parents always tried their best to integrate Dorcas and her twin brother Gabriel into the pureblood world because they knew that one day those connections might be the difference between life and death. So Dorcas grew up playing in her backyard with the Black and Rosier children while their parents had tea and tried to avoid discussing important politics, but even as a young child Dorcas knew these were not the people she wanted to spend her time around. Most of the children she played with were cruel, hateful, and just the idea of sharing gave them a look of disgust, the only people she could get along with were Andromeda and Sirius Black, and their more tolerable personalities was a safe haven in an endless stream of terrible playdates. The only fun she ever took out of the people she was forced to surround herself with were the afternoons her and Sirius would prank the people they detested. When she was a child her parents never shielded their children from the reality of the world, instead they preferred to educate them and prepare them for the disaster of a reality they would be faced with. Dorcas grew up knowing the cruelties of the people they kept company with and was aware of everything that came with their prejudices, but pureblood or not it was something Dorcas could not tolerate. It wasnât long before Dorcas was rude to the people she was supposed to like and nice to the people she was supposed to hate, and it made a few waves in the pureblood community. The tolerant attitude towards the Meadowesâ that had once been swept under the rug was brought back full force due to the rebellious nature of their children, and just like that they were no longer pureblood royalty but blood traitors.Â
In all honesty, Dorcas didnât mind the title and she was happily sorted into Gryffindor where she could take part in a rewarding house rivalry between herself and Slytherin. There was nothing Dorcas liked more than beating her rivals fair and square in a game of quidditch, especially when said enemies had once been her bullies as a child. Dorcas Meadowes was quite the conundrum to most people, she was feisty and always had something to say but whenever they saw her around the common room or around school she was always calmly sitting somewhere reading a book. Dorcas had an inherent love of reading and has since she was five, her mother had always encouraged her to read and taught her as soon as possible. When most children her age were learning beginning picture books Dorcas was already indulging herself in easy chapter books and she proudly always had her nose stuck in a book. Her always taught her that the key to power is never force but knowledge â A sentiment Dorcas has always to keep in mind. In fact Dorcas is known for always being buried behind books in the library and having her mind working a million miles a second. Dorcas may be abrasive towards the people she has any sort of disposition to, but by everyone else she is known affectionately by Doe. To those she considers her friends Dorcas is a shining light in a world tinged with darkness, she is always the one with a warm smile, an infectious laugh, and entertaining plan for the day. Growing up Dorcas and her twin brother were inseparable and often got themselves in a good deal of trouble due to their indifference to what anyone else thought. They were social by nature, curious to the point of troublesome, and friendly to everyone just because their parents had raised them to be that way. Estella and Leonard Meadowes have always been a huge part of their childrenâs lives, they are closer than most families and Dorcas would do anything for them, which is what makes her such a great friend. She is loyal to the bone, and willing to fight anybody to protect someone she cares about or someone unable to stand up for themselves. She is a huge believer in doing what is right and is always guided by her strong moral values. Dorcas is truly a force to be reckoned with and a ship not to be sunk, that was until tragedies rolled in wave after wave.
Dorcasâ fifth year had not been anything that she had expected it to be that was for sure. When Dorcas entered her fifth year she was prepared to push herself even harder than she had in the past four.  Dorcas would never be one to boast or unnecessarily show off, but she was an incredibly talented witch and her professors never failed to let her know. She may have been at the top of her class but she never would intentionally let people know, much like her mother she let compliments roll off her back and never allowed the spotlight to remain on her for too long. Fifth year was supposed to be the year Dorcas made unforgettable memories, achieved her dreams, and conquered her O.W.L.s however the only memory that really left its mark that year was when her mother died. There were many things at the beginning of that year that Dorcas had once seen as important but by the end they seemed so small in the grand scheme of things. The day that changed it all was December 14, 1973 and it would forever be known to Dorcas as the worst day of her life. Her mother had been in the wrong place at the wrong time when Hogsmeade was attacked, one moment Dorcas had been about to meet her mother there and the next she was gone. Losing her mother was like losing a part of herself, Estella had been Dorcasâ best friend and without her the world seemed incredibly dark. Her death had been swept under the rug, and for the first time in  her life Dorcas felt completely hopeless. After her motherâs death Dorcas momentarily shut down and pushed everybody away. She couldnât help but think it was her fault that her mother had died, she had been going to Hogsmeade to meet Dorcas and the guilt was a heavy weight to carry. Dorcas learned the hard way that you never get over losing someone, you just learn to live with the big gaping hole in your heart. Little did she know that one day her pursuit of justice would leave the same gaping hole in the hearts of her family and friends.
Eventually Dorcas learned to heal over the duration of that year. She let her friends back in, she learned to smile again, but she never lost that small tinge of sadness that always seemed to follow her around. She decided that her mother would want her to be happy and she needed to show her brother by example. By the time summer rolled around it was like her old self had returned in all of its joyful glory, but it wasnât long until a new obstacle was placed in front of her taller than a mountain. Dorcas had been noticing pain in her abdomen for some time but when she started bleeding randomly she knew it was time to visit the hospital, and the fate that awaited her there was not one she took kindly. The reality that Dorcas could never have children was a crushing one and something she had never been prepared for. Despite the fact that Dorcas had never really thought about children she had always just assumed she would fall in love one day, get married, and be a great mother to her children. However, that future was pulled right from under her but like most things Dorcas is able to manage through a little optimism and a lot of escapism. She may be the girl people go to with their problems, but Dorcas doesnât return the sentiment. She focuses her most unsettling feelings inward, and if she sees something as a weakness she will most likely keep it to herself. Her medical âconditionâ was no exception, in fact after she found out it was several weeks before she mentioned it to her brother. Gabriel may have known something was off about his sister but even he didnât know the weight of what was behind it, which just went to show how unreadable Dorcas could be about her feelings. She may love reading but she was anything but an open book. Now that Dorcas is returning to Hogwarts for her seventh year, she is determined not to let her cracks show especially to her friends. She doesnât want anyoneâs pity and is ashamed of the fact that she has the ability to provoke it. Despite her inner turmoil Dorcas continues to keep the bad jokes coming, the laughs loud, and the good times rolling because she is a lion and even when in pain she will roar.
What would she see in the mirror of Erised? Dorcas had read several legends about the mirror of Erised and had always pondered as to what she might see in it. Her thoughts over the years have changed due to unfortunate events, but her curiosity remains the same. Before her mother died Dorcas thought that when she looked into the mirror of Erised Gabriel would appear alongside her with them both wearing professional quidditch robes. After Estellaâs passing Dorcas then knew exactly what she would see in the mirror: one more moment spent with the women she loved most in the world. After Estellaâs death and her realization Dorcas got nearly obsessive about uncovering the whereabouts of the mirror. She was driven by the idea that she would be able to see her mother again even if it wasnât real, eventually after several dead ends Dorcas gave up on finding it. Once she was diagnosed with being unable to bear children thoughts of the mirror entered her mind once again. She had never really thought about wanting children, but as the saying goes you always want what you cant have. Dorcas wondered if maybe she wouldnât appear in the mirror with her mother, but instead be holding a child of her own.
Can Dorcas see thestrals? If yes, why? Dorcas had never meant to see anyone die. It had just been a normal day at the park down the street from her house when Dorcas and Gabriel had their rose colored glasses yanked from their noses. Â They were ten years old and their parents allowed them to go to the park as long as they stayed together and Gabriel made sure not to let Dorcas get into any trouble. Even though Dorcas had only been ten she can still to this day hear the ear splitting scream that splintered the warm summer air. Dorcas and Gabriel had been sitting on the swing set, Gabe pushing Doe as she rambled on about how much smarter than him she was. Everything from that moment forward went so fast that if Dorcas hadnât been watching carefully like she always was she would have missed it. There were two young children about to cross the street, but they didnât see the car speeding down the street that Dorcas did. Before a scream of warning could even escape her lips it was over in screams, panic and blood and two young children with their entire lives ahead of them were cut short. As a ten year old Dorcas didnât know how to cope with the horrific event she had just seen, and her brother who was far better with blood than she was puked on the spot. Dorcas has never forgotten about those kids or that day, but every year when she rides the carriages into Hogwarts she has an extra reason to think about them. When no one else could see the threstals her second year Dorcas momentarily thought she was crazy until Gabriel was gawking at the same thing she was, it wasnât until she asked an older student a couple of days later that they explained. The threstals appeared to Dorcas and her brother for the simple reason that they had witnessed death and it would be a reminder for the rest of their lives of that tragic day.
BOGGART: Unlike most people Dorcas isnât afraid of much, she doesnât fear spiders, snakes, or the dark so when she was confronted with a boggart she was hesitant. As someone who liked to control her own reality the boggart was something Dorcas could not predict. She had no idea what form the beggars would take until it was released from its wardrobe and took on the form of her brother. He walked out of the doors with his eyes glazed over and his hands pressed to the blood coming from his chest. Dorcas couldnât help but let out a scream even though her real brother was in the same room. As he collapsed to the floor with blood coming out of his mouth Dorcas could not keep her composure and rushed from the classroom.
The smell of books: Dorcas learned how to read at the young age of six, while most children her age were still tackling the alphabet Dorcas was reading beginning chapter books. The explanation behind Dorcasâ love of anything literature is simple: Her mother. Even when Dorcas was still in Estellaâs belly she would read to her and after she was born Estella only became more dedicated. Reading was something that bonded Dorcas to her mother in a way that few things could, and for the rest of her life some of her most cherished memories would involve a good book and the lullaby of her motherâs perfectly charismatic reading voice. When Dorcas was first shown an amortentia potion in her sixth year she was least surprised by the strong, pungent smell of books wafting from the depths of cauldron, instead she welcomed the scent as a familiar and predictable friend.
Her motherâs lavender perfume: Growing up the most distinct scent in her childhood was the lavender scented perfume Dorcasâ father always bought for her mother. Lavender was her motherâs favorite flower and there were always an abundance of them growing in the garden as well as many other beauties.
Mint Leaves: In the garden that Dorcas and her mother worked continually on over the course of her childhood, Dorcas always insisted that they grew a plethora of mint. It was the most alluring scent in the entire world and she often enjoyed the fresh mint tea that her family would make on rainy afternoons (which was pretty much every afternoon in the UK). Mint continues to a be  flavor that haunts Dorcasâ favorite flavors and favorite scents, in fact she had been known to wear mint hand oil very frequently.
Ocean breeze: Despite the Meadowes lack of elite status in the pureblood circle, that didnât mean they werenât wealthy. In fact Dorcas lived a very comfortable life with her parents even though they werenât the kind of people to boast about their money. Dorcas spent many vacations at the familyâs multiple estates sprinkled around the world, however they most frequented the houses they owned near the ocean. Her mother and father had always loved the beach, and were even married on one, and they wanted their daughter to have the same appreciation for the sea. It wasnât hard, as soon as Dorcas took one look at the great blue eternity before her she was in love. She loved the cold, damp ocean breeze on her face that carried the scent of seaweed, salt, and seagulls, she was entranced by the continuous and timed melody of the crashing waves that came one after the next, and she couldnât get enough of the grainy, soft feeling of a million grains of sand beneath her feet.
Wood: Cypress wands are associated with nobility. The great medieval wandmaker, Geraint Ollivander, wrote that he was always honoured to match a cypress wand, for he knew he was meeting a witch or wizard who would die a heroic death. Fortunately, in these less blood-thirsty times, the possessors of cypress wands are rarely called upon to lay down their lives, though doubtless many of them would do so if required. Wands of cypress find their soul mates among the brave, the bold and the self-sacrificing: those who are unafraid to confront the shadows in their own and othersâ natures.
Core: Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard.Â

PATRONUS: Â As soon as Dorcas turned sixteen she took it upon herself to learn how to practice a patronus charm alongside her brother. By that time her mother had already passed away and she had become fully aware of the turmoil their world was in, which made mastering the skill far more important. When thinking of a happy memory Dorcas was overwhelmed with how many there were to choose from, her parents had given her a good and happy life that were littered with them, but ultimately the one she chose revolved around the love she had for her mother. It took Dorcas several tries to produce even an intangible patronus. However, after several weeks of practice when a transparent gazelle burst from the end of her wand Dorcas and her brother could not stop laughing at the absolute irony of it. The name Dorcas meant gazelle and to her it seemed like the universe was playing some practical joke, one that she didnât mind laughing along with. The gazelle may be a graceful animal full of beauty and agility, but their slot on the food chain makes them vulnerable to their main predator, the cheetah. Though gazelles are capable of reaching high speeds, cheetahs can run faster and the gazelleâs only defense is itâs ability to zig zag swiftly from side to side, often outwitting the cheetah. In this way the gazelle and Dorcas are alike, they do not face their foes with strength or brawn but instead they choose the more tactical option preferring to out maneuver and outsmart their opponent. Much like the gazelle, Dorcas learned that with awareness and skill she can be at ease with her own vulnerability. The ability to discover and explore new paths and to change direction when required is the best way to free herself and prevent herself from being consumed by the hungry beasts of the past.
