I have this AU I keep rotating in my mind where pClea can be freed from Clea's control but not all of the overpaint can be removed and she's not going to be the same she was before it. Design notes under read more
Her left eye is similar to how it looks in the cutscene before she dies, though the sclera isn't neatly white. The iris colour is the same as she originally had.
Hair and skin remain the same, because Maelle was told to remove too little rather than too much and the priority was to sever Clea's control over her.
Since in the cutscene her most "human" moments focus on her left side (left eye, left hand) I figured I'd make the right side appear "more monstrous". The golden paint is permanent on that side, he rest is removed. (When she's no longer as harrowed by her experience I love to imagine pClea telling people she uses her right hand to "make Evil art")

Not visible but her voice sounds raspy and slightly fragmented, similarly to how pAlicia sounds in the poem cutscene.
Also quick summary: impossible AU scenario where instead of painting over her they remove as much of the overpaint on her as possible to cause a situation similar to what happened to Alicia/Maelle. The difference is that pClea has lived longer as a monster than as a human and she's struggling to get used to human living again (but she'll carve her own path and take control of her own life <3 bc she deserves it <3)

ANYWAY! Who wants to read my 15 PAGE DOCUMENT about Lumière and its people??
I am once again thinking too hard about Lumiere and asking questions about it that are completely irrelevant for the game but I'm just wondering why the people never simply sailed in the opposite direction. I mean, in one direction there's a giant woman who paints a magic number every year that kills a lot of people, why not try the other direction for once?

I've had this AU in my head for months and finally got to working on it. AU when Maelle gommaged the first time (after defeating the Paintress), she does not regain her memories so she doesn't go back into the Canvas (she doesn't know how). Now the Dessendres have to deal with the consequences of what they've done in the Canvas and how it affected their youngest.
Aline painting over Alicia overrode her memories outside of the Canvas as well. Since Aline is the strongest of the Painters, they can't undo it.
Renoir cannot be in the same room as Maelle. She hates Aline for all they've had to go through, especially with years of blaming the Paintress for the gommage. She does not trust Clea just because she's a Dessendre (no other problems because Clea didn't show up during the journey to the Paintress). Maelle has to deal with all of this while dealing with the grief of knowing everyone she knows and loves are now gone (because Renoir got rid of the Canvas).
Renoir is trying everything to undo what's been done which isn't much because Maelle attacks him every time he tries to get close. Aline is weak and recovering from the Canvas. Clea, she's pissed this is another thing on her plate while she's busy with the Writers (and a little pissed at herself because of course this would happen to her sister).
Verso's ending did not have enough problems for the Dessendres. I think they get off too scot free in his ending. This AU is for them to face what's they've done and how it affected Maelle.
Sidenote: Clea is the only one who calls her Maelle. Renoir and Aline still calls her Alicia.
