Shockwave was emotionally tired, and made an unconvinced grunt at the otherâs response, showing he clearly didnât believe Andrew. He dug his hands into his jacket pocket as he thought of how to word his phrase. âYeahâŠI wanted to ask you about Homelander. Well, more how do you deal with Homelander.â Telling Andrew that he was afraid of Homelander felt like something the other would use against him, and he didnât want to admit to that if he could avoid it.Â
Andrew let out an audible, frustrated sigh. Everything always came back to The Homelander and in truth, there was nothing anyone could do about him yet. âThe only person who could effectively deal with The Homleander was Madelyn Stillwell.â If the rumors were true, it was a twisted relationship. Where Andrewâs father was The Homelanderâs father figure, Madelyn was his mother figure. âWhatâs he done to you?â The only reason other people would ask about The Homelander was out of safety and concern.

Did it annoy Jet that Andrew was late? A little bit, but Jet figured from their previous interaction that Andrew was a busy man. He wasnât clear on what the other was working on, but he knew it had something to do with Compound V (after all that was his specialty). Of course Jet was curious but prying always comes at a cost and, from what Andrew insinuated, there was something huge lurking underneath Vought. Huge enough to take down Vought. Right now, Jet couldnât afford the fall back of the mess that will come from finding out this secret. There should be a time and place for everything. âNo worries, doctor,â Jet said. âThanks for meeting me. I know youâre busy.â He watched the other. âHow much did my handler told you?â
Andrew oddly liked Jet. Usually, the good doctor had an aversion to all supes but there was something about Jet that didnât have Andrew repulsed. âNo, really itâs my bad. I had an issue at my new place and traffic.â Sage Grove was so far away and Andrew was starting to resent the commute. Handlerâs were some of the people that Andrew actively avoided. He didnât have time for their politics or the games they played especially now. âHonestly, theyâve told me nothing other than you need a meeting with me.â Vague as ever, even when Andrew had tried to press for more information.
shockwavespeedsterâ:
Shockwave wasnât sure what he was doing here. Sure, he was looking for Andrew to ask him about some Homelander-related things, but he hadnât ever been at the labs before and it made him a little uncomfortable. His discomfort didnt ease up when he found Andrew sitting on the floor, seeminglyâŠcrying?
âAre you okay?â He asked, genuinely concerned despite his discomfort and ignoring the otherâs words for a moment. He wasnât wearing his orange costume, having settled for civilian clothing, not wanting to bring attention to himself when he was looking for Andrew.
Suddenly Andrewâs moment that he allowed himself to feel the pressures of the job and the burdens of his crimes was disrupted. Andrew couldnât appear weak. His father never did and Andrew wanted to eclipse his own fatherâs success and breaking down in a lab wasnât part of the plan. Â âIâm fine, just lack of sleep and Iâve run out of coffee.â A perfectly crafted lie. Supes were physically stronger so to have a weakness in his emotional or work related tasks was not something that Andrew could afford. âDid you need something?â

Taking a quick glance around Elena didnât see any reporters or onlookers nearby that looked to be paying too close attention. So she figured this coffee shop was safe enough for now. From what she remembered of the last time she had come across Andrew she had been frustrated about his desire to put some secret above a childâs life. How insistent he had been about some stupid piece of paper and willing to let a child die if she hadnât of signed it. She didnât even know how little Mark was now.
However it was becoming clear that this was a conversation that she couldnât avoid. So she shoved down the feelings that those memories were bringing up and hid behind the wall of her usual smile. Though the lines of that smile and her patience were strained by the stress wearing her down ever since that damned broadcast. Elena answered as she took the now full cup of coffee into her hands, âEverywhere I go since the broadcast aired. And I donât imagine it will be over anytime soon. Long day wouldnât even begin to cover it.â
Oddly enough, Elena was someone that Andrew had clicked with. It had been so long since Andrew had a conversation outside of Vought. A conversation free of Sage Grove and his experiments was welcoming. Sometimes, Andrew knew he could come off as intrusive and controlling and it was all true. He was those things but they made him who he was. The ensured that Andrew was almost at the top of his career.
Even now, the TV was airing that segment of The Homelander and Queen Maeve. Andrew couldnât begin to understand what Elena was going through. âI canât imagine.â Andrew offered her a sympathetic smile. It was all he had right now other than bad coffee. âBut Iâm sure Queen Maeve will help with this circus. Sheâs a pro by now.â The hoops Vought had her jump through was a joke. Queen Maeve was a different person to who she presented when the cameras were rolling.

Lamplighter rolled his eyes at Dr. Langerâs first comment and shook his head. He was tired and really didnât feel like snapping off a smart ass comment back at him. His eyes widened as he took in the sight of everything and it looked like a scene from a horror movie. He had so many questions rolling around in his head as to why this woman was here and what happened to her. âWhat were you doing to her?â
He looked at Dr. Langer with a confused expression. âWho was this woman?â The metallic smell of all the blood was almost too much for him as he felt his stomach lurch again. He really did pick the wrong time to try to stop smoking as he felt a headache come back. âWhat fuck up experiments were you doing to her?â He glared at the other man and felt anger boiling up.
Andrew hated the supes with everything he had. No matter what they did, they were a living reminder of his own fatherâs twisted experiments. What was twisted was the matter of Andrew trying to replicate his fatherâs work. When they both came into the OR room, Andrew was silent at first. âI was trying to save her but not every patient makes it.â Sacrifices had to be made. When on the cusp of a great discovery, Andrew had no time to think about lines that would be crossed.
The doctor looked at the womanâs file over. For some reason, Andrew was in a mood for talking. âShe was on the streets, meth addict I think.â All Andrew and his team needed to know was that she was one of the cityâs undesirables. The oneâs that, more than likely, no one would miss. âShe was pregnant and it looked like the baby was a supe. She had no chance.â Neither did the child but Andrew had done everything he could. He had to tell himself that, over and over until it sounded a little bit true.

It was either the exhaustion from work or the exhaustion from the constant questioning from the CIA, but Andrew was almost at his breaking point. Andrew wanted to recreate his fatherâs work. The Homelander was injected in utero. Before the fetus had a chance, Vought had plans to make him something greater, something bigger than there had ever been. To unlock the future of compound v and Andrewâs own plans, Andre and his team had to go back to the start. Jonah didnât want to share anything. The two had got into many arguments over it. Jonah accused his son of wanting to create another monster while Andrew said his father was nothing more than a coward. Both had merit but both were too stubborn. Andrew was in Seven Tower when the call came through. Another host and her baby had passed away in another grusome circumstance and Andrew needed a minute. Alone in his lab, Andrew sunk to the floor and for a moment he let his failures consume him. âWe are busy,â Andrew quickly wiped away his tears. âUnless its an emergency, book an appointment.â Andrew saw Shockwave and he quickly regained his composure. No matter what, the Supes and Vought kept taking more than Andrew gave them and it was starting to break him.Â

The last time Andrew had seen Siren was from a distance at her party. Andrew had taken his fiancĂ© but like him, Elizabeth was just as impressed with it all as Andrew was. The album was a gift from the party but it was sat in Andrewâs car, unopened. When a knock came from his door, Andrew was surprised. He was certain that there was a âdo not disturbâ sign but this was Vought and the supes very rarely listened to those they deemed beneath them. âItâs been awhile since you came to the office, how can I help?â Andrew didnât have the time to help but while Siren was here, it could distract him from the press trying to get his attention. On his desk there was papers, requests from the CIA for Andrew to come in for more questioning and Andrew wished that headache would go away.

With the press sniffing around Andrew and his work, Andrew had no other option but to throw himself in his work. Thankfully, Andrew had a busy workload to keep himself and his mind busy. A file came across Andrewâs desk and he had to take a double look. Jet Sommers had been experiencing new or heightened powers, Jetâs handler wasnât all to clear on that. Typical. Andrew took the case. He didnât mind Jet but the workload at Sage Grove was killing him.Â
Instead of being in his own lab, Andrew had arranged to meet Jet in the training room. If he really had new or improved powers, what better room to do it in? âSorry Iâm late, Iâve been swamped.â Andrew walked in with a coffee in hand and a bagel. âWe can get started in a second, Iâve just got to finish my coffee or Iâll be running on fumes.âÂ

The diner had proved to not be the safe haven she had hoped it would be. Even going to a place she didnât frequent she had encountered someone. This was getting tiring and Elena could feel pressure building up behind her temples in a sure sign of a headache brewing. Great she could add a future headache to the list of things having gone wrong today. Hopefully the next spot she had chosen to go would prove to be more successful. The library was a naturally quiet place and it had a little coffee shop attached to it that Elena had chosen to come to. There was both potential quiet and caffeine to stave off the headache.
Coffee in hand Elena turned around and walked over to a table that looked pretty isolated in the back area. Her other hand went up to her temple and rubbed circles. She zoned out as she walked only focused on making it to the table and sitting in silence for a time. However before she could make it to the table she saw a familiar form sitting at a table to her right. She wouldnât be able to make it to the table she had in mind without passing within view. That was just shaping up to be her luck today.
So with reluctance hidden behind a smile Elena came to a stop within view of her fellow doctor. âHello Andrew. How are you?â Inwardly she was hoping this conversation would go smoothly and quickly.
All of Andrewâs lawyers had said the news would die down and he could go on with his life. That wasnât the case. Andrewâs local coffee shop always had a reporter or two trying to get a quote or something from Andrew. Now he had to settle for a diner and the coffee was just the same as black sludge.Â
Everywhere on the screens was The Homelander and Queen Maeve. The Homelander had outed Queen Maeveâs relationship and the woman looked familiar. It took Andrew long enough to recognize her but she was a doctor he had dealt with. He made her sign and NDA and everything, well, he wouldnât help a dying kid unless Elena signed over her name and rights to talk about it. Still, Andrew felt no regrets. Â Just as luck would have it, the very topic of the city was in the same diner as him. âIâm okay, here take a seat.â Andrew moved his papers off the table to make room for her. At least the press were talking about something other than Andrewâs father. âI take it youâve been hounded by the press?â Â Andrew passed her one of the free cups on the table and soon enough the waitress filled it up.
lcstmctherâ:
She lets him draw her blood and she manages to keep her face passive. âI didnât know anything was amiss until Homelander threw my son off a goddamn roof,â Becca admits coolly. Noâshe still wasnât over it. Despite her ruse, despite how she batted her lashes and giggled, she will never be over the blatant disregard for her sonâs safety or her wishes.Â
That sack of shit.
Becca sighs softly and shakes her head. âIâm not pissed or anythingâbut knowing exactly what was put into my body would kind of be a benefit.â Her eyes flicker over the doctor and she knows itâs not his fault. He wasnât there when she was bleeding to death. But at the moment, he was the face of Vought she was seeing. And pardon her French, but fuck Vought.
Andrew didnât let his face show any reaction but he was surprised. The Homelander had painted himself to be a caring and compassionate father yet pushing a kid of a roof didnât quite add up to that. âIs that when your powers first started to show?â Andrew had a theory. It was one his father had dismissed multiple times. More so in adults, they were showing signs of a positive reaction with compound v and to Andrew, it could be linked to an emotional event. Seeing your kid being thrown off your roof was one way to trigger it.Â
âI honestly donât know.â Andrew finished the blood work and sat down. Becca Butcher was a different case, something that Vought or the scientists hadnât thought of. âWeâve never injected compound v into adult subjects so based on your file, this was a hail mary.â Either that or Becca Butcher would have died and Ryan would have a completely different family. Maybe an older brother, who knows.

Langer. Out of all the people who worked here he despised him the most. Lamplighter sighed and opened his eyes but was taken aback by the amount of blood all over Dr. Langerâs scrubs. Something felt off this time as the sheer amount of blood wasnât normal and he wasnât used to being rushed onto the next clean up job so soon. He glanced at Dr. Langer then over to the operating room door. âWhat the fuck happened?â The Supe was hesitant at first but he walked through the operating room door with Langer behind him.
Andrew was aware of the resentment that The Lamplighter held for him. If anything, Andrew had deliberately pushed the supe to put his own stamp on the place. Andrew said nothing. Instead, he waited for the supe to enter the operating room before he joined him and dismissed the rest of the staff. The lifeless woman on the table was just about finished bleeding out. She was just someone they got off the streets, an addict with no life and no ties. âIâm sorry, when did you get a promotion?â Andrew asked. The operation notes were ready and waiting for Andrew as was the baby ready to take away for a post mortem examination. Andrew wasnât sure if they could tell if there was any sign of a baby with powers but if Jonah could do this with The Homelander, so could Andrew. âCareful, the blood is slippy and I donât want you damaging any of my equipment.â Andrew was furious. He was furious with Vought and with his own father. Jonah refused to share anything about The Homelanderâs creation. All Andrew gathered was that the supe was created in the womb, a first and only for Compound V.

His head was spinning and he felt like he wanted to vomit his lunch he recently had. Lamplighter leaned against the wall as the smell of burnt flesh wafted into the hallway. Dr. Langer must have been in an especially bitter mood lately because Lamplighter had burned more bodies this week then usual and it was starting to get to him. The pounding in his head started to go away as he heard footsteps approaching from down the hallway and he took in a deep breath. How much longer could he do this until he just snapped? He closed his eye and sighed as he tried to calm himself down.
It was another experiment gone wrong only this time things were different. The test subject wasnât a supe and Andrew didnât exactly have authorization to do this. A woman with more issues than even Andrew could count, agreed to be apart of a study with her unborn baby. Andrew was injecting her and the fetus systematically and now the dosage was too much. The baby was crushing the host from inside the womb, crushing itâs own mothers organs before the woman bled out. Andrew tried. He tried to slow the bleeding or at least save the baby but it was useless. Time of death was called.
Storming out, Andrew powered down the hall. âWhen youâre done having your five minute break youâve got clean up to do.â Andrewâs scrubs were bloodied, more than they had been in the past few weeks. It was clear to everyone, including Andrew, that The Lamplighter was at a breaking point. In reality, Andrew liked to do this. He liked to push people to their limits until they adapted or snapped. âI havenât got all day so now will be fine.â Andrew held open the operating room, reading for the sup to walk through.
