ahem. for no reason in particular…… do you have any interactions you want to see between adelasia and father battisto?

Always. These two are best friends forever. ❤️ Their relationship is very sibling-like, but they also have a notable amount of physical affection (on account of her trusting him not to be weird about it because he’s celibate, and him trusting her not to be weird about it because she’s not attracted to men).

A few ideas:

Drinking tea together. Any time Adelasia comes home from a trip, she always has a little tea date with Battisto in the cloisters around his rose garden.

Drinking something stronger than tea together. Alongside Saba, Battisto and Adelasia have been sneaking alcohol into the parlor above Saba’s pension since they were teens. Battisto is a mellow drunk, but Adelasia gets very affectionate. She might even be found draped across his lap.

Either of them comforting the other. (Battisto is the more emotional of the two. Btw.) They might be visiting the crypt together, or just getting caught up in shared memories.

Battisto playing an instrument while Adelasia dances and sings. This was a big part of their childhood. Batti has always been talented with pianos and pipe organs, while Adelasia is an exceptional singer.

Adelasia visiting the confession booth to gossip. She gets tired of waiting for her bestie to finish his holy duties…

Renhardt received his first scar across his neck because he spoke too freely. He received his last scar over his heart because he guarded it too closely.

Martyn received his first scar on his ankle because he ran from what mattered. He received his last scar on his hand because he offered it up.

Renhardt went to Oakhurst to try to reject the solitude he'd nearly drowned himself in. He invited everyone over for tea, regardless of how he felt about them, in the attempt to write a new narrative in which he was not the orchestrator of his own loneliness.

He built a home to live in and made friends who vowed to teach him how to read so he could tell his story. He didn't have an ending quite yet, but he moved in hopes he could create a good one.

The majority of the people that Ren trusted betrayed him. He tried to trust again and again to the point where he completely closed himself off to the prospect of letting anyone in. There was only one person he still loved.

Martyn spent his life as a thief, where he was never welcomed in one place long enough to settle. Oakhurst was meant to be a resting point to heal from the injuries he gave himself by constantly running. But he met people there who not only wanted him to stay, but were willing to fight and die for him. He would change. He would help tell Renhardt's story. He would make his own.

Martyn's last words to Renhardt were, "This'll be like blinking, right? We'll have the darkness for a brief moment and we'll be straight back into the light. Straight back into the world. It'll be a blink. This'll be a blip in the story of your life."

The thief died with his hands empty and outstretched.

The untrusting man died fighting for him.
